By the way, Apple-haters: Apple’s iPhone alone outsells Amazon, Intel, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s total revenue

Apple’s (AAPL) new “iPhone 5s and 5c sold a record 9 million units during the first weekend after its launch,” Eric Chemi reports for Businessweek. “Consider this: The brand’s sales haul over the last four reported quarters eclipses that of such companies as Home Depot (HD), Microsoft (MSFT), Target (TGT), Goldman Sachs (GS), Amazon (AMZN), PepsiCo (PEP), Comcast (CMCSA), Dell (DELL), Google (GOOG), Pfizer (PFE), and UPS (UPS).”

“If this single product were its own company in the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index, iPhone Inc. would outsell 474 of those companies—ranking between Wells Fargo (WFC) ($90.5 billion) and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) ($84.9 billion),” Chemi reports. “The iPhone’s $88.4 billion in annualized revenue tops 21 of the 30 component companies in the Dow Jones industrial average—it would be the ninth-biggest stock in the Dow 30.”

  1. Thats just for the iPhone! hahaha…. Unlike other companies, Apple is not stupid enough to waste billions on products that are DOA or feed a DOA product from revenue derived from Ads or a BAZAAR marketplace.

    1. Yes, it is bad news. Munster said that out of those 9 million iPhones Apple said it sold, 8 million were actually sitting on the shelves as sell-in. Tim Cook told a fib to make iPhone sales seem impressive. Apple actually hired all those people around the world to stand on line to try to fool investors that the iPhone still had some mojo.

    2. Yea… It is stories like this really show how evil Wall Street, stock analysts and the financial media is.

Where is Google and Amazon on that list? Hmmm?

Next up, lets compare P/E ratings with those financial power houses.

    1. Samsung is a very large company:
Samsung group does about $285 billion per year in total sales
Samsung electronics is the largest part of Samsung Group and does about $186 billion per year.

It should be noted that Samsung Group’ss net profit is about $29 Bilion per year which is way less then Apple’s.

I would assume that Apple does between $2-3 billion per year with Samsung buying processor chips and memory chips. Samsung would be hurt by Apple moving their business to another company but it wouldn’t be catastrophic. Unfortunately, if Samsung limited the total number of A7 processors delivered to Apple, that would be very bad for both Apple and Apple’s stock price. However, this would immediately get the attention of the SEC and Samsung would be in deep kimchi real fast if it could be proven they did this deliberately for anti-completive reasons. Not to mention companies like LG, KIA and Hundai wouldn’t like the bad press.

      1. Except that the Feds are impotent at enforcing fair trade. Except for the iBooks non-issue that they persisted on. Our US govt allows product dumping on everything now. The good news is that even though the foundry business at Samsung producing Apple licensed chips is only $10B per year, and that sounds small, at the low margins that Samsung is working on for most of their products, that $10B would be the difference between a good year and a bad year. Corporate finance officers would kill their grandmothers for 5% revenue.

      1. Our local warehouse shopping club has Samsung TVs at one-inch increments from 23″ up to 70″ or so. Thankfully, I won’t buy a Samsung TV, but who needs to decide between the 56″ and the 57″ or the 58″?

  2. And that explains why AAPL is down another $6 today? Facts just do not matter in the market. I guess I have to look at it like Tim Cook. Just look at Jan 1 and Dec 31 each year, that shows a healthy growth. But the day to day stuff is driving me nuts.

    1. I hate to keep repeating this but please go to Google Finance and compare Apple’s year to date share price against the Dow, S&P 500, and NASDAQ and you’ll see a company that looks like it’s on the verge of going out of business. Nokia is hurting, right? You want a good cry? Just compare Nokia to Apple YTD and see what company’s share price has shown marked improvement. You’ll fall out of your chair. You’re definitely going to want to blame someone at Apple and we all know who that’s going to be.

      1. If that was sarcasm I missed it.

No, no-one gets that blame at Apple.

As you can see by the above story and chart, Apple is kicking ass and taking names. If you look at Apple’s revenue over the last 10 years it is astounding.

The stock price, Apple has no control over that. Evil Wall Street has an ax to grind with Apple and they are in it for the long haul.

  3. “By the way, Apple-lovers: Apple’s iPhone alone outsells Amazon, Intel, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s total revenue” could have been the headline, but that would have been a little too anti-American.

  4. It admittedly more difficult when your not number one. Take apple in the 90’s … … … +100,000,000 AAPL for an incredible corporate story no doubt pioneered by Steve Job’s and many others’ greatness. But we live in world that moves and great companies come and go. Apple will stand alone for awhile, and thats a good thing. They leave a lot to be envyous about, but +plus+ Apple, is not to the exclusion of +plus+ other companies efforts that go less noticed.

  5. “Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone… What Apple risks here is its reputation as a hot company that can do no wrong. If it’s smart it will call the iPhone a ‘reference design’ and pass it to some suckers to build with someone else’s marketing budget. Then it can wash its hands of any marketplace failures… Otherwise I’d advise people to cover their eyes. You are not going to like what you’ll see.”
    John C. Dvorak – 2007

    1. Classic from the Gasbag. He tries to explain why, but he doesn’t understand why he’s Blacklisted by Apple in the first place. Perhaps he was Blacklisted by Apple for so long because he’s an idiot that mouths off to click bait. He’s even admitted that he does so to piss off Apple customers and fans. How can Apple entrust a true honest review of products when his history is riddled with FUD and stupidity?

  6. I wonder if the writer of this article has forgotten that apple has lied about their iPhone sales in the past. I wouldn’t doubt it if they did it again. They’ve also lied about other things, nothing but lies. Who here knows they lied in court during the Samsung trials? They used altered photos, very altered photos, to make Samsungs’ products look more like theirs.
