“Apple is continuing development of its rumored larger-sized iPad and working with supplier Quanta Computer, reports Chinese site United Daily News (via Mac Otakara),” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors. “The report from United Daily News refers to the larger tablet as a 12-inch device, but rumors from The Wall Street Journal suggest that Apple is actually testing an iPad that is closer to 13-inches diagonally.”
“News of a larger-sized iPad first surfaced in May, and was later confirmed in July. Such a tablet could be similar in size to Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air,” Clover reports. “Apple is expected to release a new fifth-generation iPad and a second-generation iPad at an event that could take place in the October-November timeframe.”

It already existed back in the early 1990s: the biggest of Newton prototypes was huge. Even smallest of prototypes, which was released, was not really small (800 g device), but the biggest one was a different story.

Give a pressure sensitive screen and it will sell in droves to the creative industries.
How so? I have been doing graphics on a Mac since 1988. I can’t imagine using a finger as an input device except for some very obscure circumstances.
unless it would make use of the same type of input devices as a graphics tablet.

There used to be a technique called “drawing.” Research suggests that drawing was a technique widely used by artists before computers. It was done with a material called “paper.”
I hope Apple does not go through this. Big enough with a kickstand? I got banned from Wal-Fart because I added “GWAK” to a Microsoft Surface Kiosk in Permanent Ink while under anger from past issues.

It needs a mode to put most of the touchscreen buttons toward the bottom of the screen to reduce gorilla arm.

And this has to do with large iPads how? Why do people hate him? I used to agree with my father on Obama in a negative sense,BUT then I watched BOTH A&E Documentarys on McCain and Obama. I saw a bit of myself in Obama,
and my views on him changed completely; he used
to be a social outcast for a bit at a couple of times,
and having to deal with such trials like I did, I respect Obama. I Voted for Obama on Election Day of

Sweet: a larger iPad will have room for USB and FireWire ports, and the iPad Extreme 2nd edition will have Thunderbolt and SD card instead! But I expect VGA out will wait for 3rd generation.
Mark these words because when Apple fails to deliver these things it’ll be a sure sign that they’ve given up on the low end, on market share, on innovation and on endangered sea turtles in Kansas.

Kansas is presently a land-locked state. It wasn’t, though, when the sea turtles began their migration. But, like Apple’s pace of innivation, they weren’t fast enough for the pundits of their time and are now stranded. Endangered. Doomed.
yeah right. wasn’t there a big push to make a smaller iPad (thus the iPad mini). If you want a larger iPad (which would apparently not be intended to increase portability), then why not buy a macbook air (especially when a larger iPad would essentially be the same price)?

I want to see Apple offer iPads in the standard A, B, C, and D sheet sizes. 8.5 x 11, 11 x 17, 17 x 22, and 22 x 36 inches.

If so, Apple should better extend the use of this new iPad to a real graphic tablet like sort of a Wacom tablet.
It should be very possible (with a thinner pen – or even a real Wacom pen and a strong app to lean on).
Everyone isn’t thinking straight: a Mac Air that splits in half that runs OS X and iOS and Parallels. And maybe has a dock to connect to a 4k 27″ monitor.
Acer has something like this.

Apple constantly develops prototypes to test out different features, functions and form factors. Plus they are willing to revisit an idea if they believe there is some merit in re-exploring it. Just because ‘people say’ they are working on something, doesn’t mean it will be released into Production.
If Apple were to make a larger iPad, it would still be an iPad. There is absolutely NO CHANCE IN H3LL that it would suddenly grow a USB, Firewire, SD card ports (not to mention run OS X Mavericks). If you know Apple’s philosophy even just a little, you’d know that it is all about simplicity.
And I think the 13″ iPad would find plenty of use. The display size of such a device would likely be close to the standard American letter-sized sheet of paper (similar to A4, slightly shorter). I could see it work well for musicians, replacing printed sheet music. I’ve been using my current iPad for this and it works extremely well, although it is just a bit too small. Larger device would be perfect.
The nice thing about it is that the actual pixel resolution needn’t change at all; everything would just become a bit bigger, making it more legible from greater (or, for the presbyopic, shorter) distances.
I don’t actually think that this is going to happen, but there’s always a sliver of a chance.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if this ’13” iPad’ turned out to be a touch screen MacBook Air? I sort of hope not.
At 11″ I see it being a larger version of iPad. But at 13″ it makes me wonder if it would be 16×9. I don’t think I want a 16×9 iPad, but I do want a larger iPad, but still be lighter than an iPad 4 🙂
