“The home where a young Steve Jobs built the first Apple computer may soon become a protected historical site,” Jackie Castillo reports for CNN.
“The seven-member Los Altos Historical Commission has scheduled a ‘historic property evaluation’ for the single-story, ranch-style home on Monday,” Castillo reports. “If the designation is ultimately approved, then the house on 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, California, will have to be preserved.”
“Jobs moved to the house with his foster parents as a 7th grader, and lived there through high school,” Castillo reports. “In the attached garage, he and Steve Wozniak — whom he met in high school — toiled to assemble the first 50 Apple 1 computers.”

Erect a giant nut at Ballmer’s alma mater of Lawerence Tech University in Southfield, Michigan. I am sure they would love it. Maybe they can even take the “wrecking ball” statue off of Grand Valley’s hands, since they don’t want it. (Miley Cyrus not only ruined twerking, but also ruined giant wrecking ball statutes for everyone)
They could put a kinetic sculpture of a chair moving through space… would be QUITE fitting.

That’s California for you. Too bad Michigan can’t have anything good. The only contribution my great (lake) state has given to tech was Bald Ballmer himself. Well, at least there will be a sign that say “welcome to the ruins of the former city of Detroit”. You guys on the west coast have it so good…

Foster parents? That’s sloppy reporting.
Could just be sloppy thinking; many don’t make a distinction between foster parents and adoptive parents.
Hugely different. Foster parents are, inherently, temporary.
Adoptive parents are, for many adopted kids, mom and dad. They are legally caretakers of those kids.
My reaction also. Make you wonder how weak her editor is too. These are neither writers nor reporters. The don’t have sufficient pride in their work. But, if most of the audience doesn’t know, what’s the harm, right? It’s entertainment, not news.
I am glad that this place is being turned into a museum. It sounds like a nice tribute to a man who changed to face of computing.

For someone who hates him a lot you sure frequent this site often. Obviously you must be an Apple product user and enjoy his accomplishments, or you’re just a PC fanboy trolling. We all know Steve wasn’t perfect, it’s not like you’re pointing out anything shocking here. And he made amends for many of his mistakes, which is more than I can say for a lot of people.

If it’s good enough to preserve Beatle childhood homes, the world needs this one saved also.

That doesn’t really look like Steve in the photo, and did he ever wear black sneakers?
The more I look close at MDN’s photo, I don’t believe it is Steve, the black sneakers, hair parted on the wrong side, black turtleneck not tucked in, round face, and the way the guy is standing just doesn’t look right. Steve did not look anything like that in 2006, he didn’t have that much hair by then:
Do not know what he wore back then but only shoes he wore the last dozen years or so were New Balance. Black or gray. Last pair I saw him in were gray 998s.
That looks like his hair from the 90’s, by 2006 it was very, very short and gray, as in the video I posted. So it can’t be him.
