“People familiar with the company’s plans say that Apple TV is scheduled for an internal overhaul on Sept. 18, the same day Apple releases its iOS 7 mobile operating software,” Peter Kafka reports for AllThingsD.
“The one new feature I’m aware of is a tweak to Apple’s AirPlay system,” Kafka reprots. “The new software will allow people who have purchased content from Apple’s iTunes store to play that stuff on other people’s TVs, via its AirPlay system.”
Kafka reports, “The key part is that they will be able to tell an Apple TV box they don’t own to stream the media they do own, directly from the cloud. That’s a change from the current system, which requires users to download stuff to their iPhones and iPads and fling it to the TV from there.”

I’ll keep mine jailbroken, thanks.
Perhaps I’ll update when the feature set is rich enough, but for now Netflix, AirPlay and streaming all formats is all I need.
Based on my star rating, I guess I should update, so I can get features I don’t want, only to lose the features I use.
I never said I steal movies. I don’t.
I would be in the market for getting upgraded hardware. I have both aTV 2 and 3 so hopefully the new software will work on both.
Ill keep my jailbroken Apple tv 2. XBMC rules and it sucks the ATV 3 cant be jailbroken. I ditched cable and satellite almost a year ago for just XBMC on my apple tv and havent looked back. i get everything and more for free none of this paying for channels i dont watch.
How nice of Cook & Co to conveniently ignore this little bit of news during their recent public conference. I swear Cook thinks only about the iPhone, while all other Apple products are treated like second class citizens.
You’ve been watching too much Toy Story. Objects don’t have feelings, they’ll be ok.
