“AT&T has announced that its prepaid cellular service Aio Wireless will begin offering service nationwide starting in mid-September, with service plans running between $40 and $70 per month and including unlimited talk, text, and data with 4G LTE,” Richard Padilla reports for MacRumors.
“Customers who sign up for service in an Aio Wireless retail store or on the brand’s website by September 29 will also receive an additional month of service at no additional cost,” Padilla reports. “The service will offer a catalog of mobile phones and tablets from makers including Apple’s iPhone, and will allow customers to bring in devices to activate on the network.”

Wonder if this is AT&T’s patented Limited unlimited voice, text and data… you know the one that caps your unlimited usage…
They don’t cap unlimited plans. They just begin throttling speed after a point. Much like others do. Although, in all fairness, the others at least clearly explain what are throttling limits, while AT&T liked to do it seemingly arbitrarily.
Still more expensive than Virgin Mobile or T-Mobile (and possibly other prepaid offerings).
The cheapest $40 plan is apparently NOT for smartphones. They have $40, $55 and $70, all unlimited offerings. High-speed throttling starts at 250MB / 2GB / 7GB. However, only the $55 and $70 plans can be used with smartphones. And the phone prices are standard full prices (iPhone 5 for $650, 4S for $550, etc).
Not really worth much.
Hopefully, with this expanded, non exclusive and unsubsidised, iPhone retail availability, Apple will release unlocked iPhones in the USA, on the same day that all new iPhones are availabe, rather than weeks/ months later as has been the past experience.
In the UK, virgin are now offering, Unlimited Minutes, Texts and Data for £15 a month. Impressive!
