“Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10, sources told AllThingsD,” Ina Fried reports for AllThingsD.
“One of the key questions is whether Apple adopts a new tactic to address the mid-range of the smartphone market,” Fried reports. “Historically, Apple has gone after those customers by offering its year-old and two-year-old models for $100 and $200 less than a new iPhone. However, there has been a great deal of talk that the company will debut a new lower-cost iPhone alongside whatever update it has in store for the current iPhone 5.”
Fried reports, “Naturally, any new phones will be running iOS 7, which has been in testing since its announcement at Apple’s developer conference in June… The iOS update is also available for older models. Apple has already said that iOS 7 will work on many recent iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices.”

MacDailyNews Note: Dalrymple confirms here. Done deal.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “blaargh” for the heads up.]
And the drama begins!!! Can’t wait!!!
Sources, yes, sources. Unnamed sources. Patience, dear ones. It will happen when it happens.
Went to event only to be disappointed just like evry other events
I dont know what your expecting, but the last event didnt disappoint me one bit. New os x, new mac pro, new iOS, new airport…all with great new features that i want to see.
Got my eyes on a new Mac Pro tower (cylinder) what ever they are calling it. I also got my new apple wifi router. All I can say is holy crap it’s fast. New iphone awesome I’m due for an upgrade and will of course buy whatever the top of the line apple phone there is. 2.5 years on my iPhone 4 and while no Siri I still love the phone. Getting a bunch more new apple features always helps. The other phone has stupid features like look away and your video stops. Wave your hand in front of your phone to answer. They should have shipped a pair or plastic Mickey Mouse ears with the phone.but that would degrade Mickey Mouse. All my friends and jumping off Samsung S3 and S4 phones/phablets unless of course they want to play ping pong. They make excellent ping pong paddles. Add a long stick and they could even be used as boat oars.
We had the Cube.
I move to call the new Mac Pro the Tube.

@Zzz
Zzzzzzz
Must be tough riding in top of Romney’s car… sleep while you can.
I’m looking forward to seeing what’s new. My iPhone 4’s home button has started to wear out after 2.5 years.
> My iPhone 4′s home button has started to wear out after 2.5 years.
That’s because Apple engineering sucks. No other company has gotten away with poorly designed trash as much as Apple has.
Obviously you have been smart enough to by Samsung smartphones that never fail before you upgrade every 6 months.
@Pube: Shamed Shung Spy.
Moron.
Yeah? Like to provide proof? I have a PowerBook that I bought in 2003. Still works. My iPhone 3G? Still works, just gotta unlock it and give it to a friend.
My iPhone 4? I use it every day as an iPod.
No problems with my iPhone 5. Where I work, there are three old Mac G3 towers, two of them still working as servers. The oldest is dated 1999.
In the meantime I have personally seen a couple of dozen Wintel PC’s go for scrap after no more than two or three years.
You have no clue whatsoever as to how good Apple’s engineering or design, because you are an ignorant idiot.
What is the point of you making non constructive comments. They are your opinion and hardly worth the effort readong
@Pube
How can you possibly think your “view” that Apple engineering sucks will have one iota of effect on the readers of a Mac news site?
Now we know Troll’s have curly hair.
Yeah, but when will it re released?
Two very possible dates are the week of the event or one month later.
That is what I’ve seen in the past, for September product announcements Apple usually releases the product no later than October. Apple would usually go “available at the end of ” and usually it’s a Friday.
Fall begins on September 22. The new iPhone will be released after that day.
And let’s have iOS 7 run on all iOS devices not like the way it is now.
Huh? It runs on a lot of recent devices? Are you stating you want it on iPhone 1?
You mean just like the newest version of Android is present on all Samdung phones?
Bullshit about production constraint coming ?
Vacation blocked at AT&T Mobility starting September 12th. Some departments blocked until the end of the month; other departments vacation blocked into October. Preorder could be the could be Thursday the 12th!
Now THIS is information I can really use! Thanks dude!!!
I’ve been refreshing The Loop like there’s no tomorrow waiting for his one-word post.
Stopped by the Stonebridge store under construction. Talked to a construction employee in the back. With the big black facade, when are they going to put a BIG Apple LOGO on it? “Next friday, 6 weeks before they open And they will have the new iPhones” So now you know! From a guy in overalls.
I’m sure they are just sitting there on a pallet, wrapped in black shrink wrap, with a sign on it that reads “do not open until Sept 10”. /s
Its in the news! Today is Friday 16Aug. The guy in overalls was right! The Apple logo is now on the black front of the store. See the Woodbridge Patch. 6 weeks til they open.
Will Sir Jonny Ive take the stage?
What people are expecting to see at the event…
(1) New iPhone ( iPhone 6 ?? )
(2) Low cost new iPhone ( iPhone 5C ??)
(3) New iPad ( with iPad Mini like appearance )
(4) Apple’s Phil says “… can not innovate anymore my ass…”
(5) Steve Job’s widow and her boyfriend?
I’d say only 1 & 3 are confirmed. iPhone 5C is just wrong, on so many levels. It goes against everything Apple is and cannot be allowed. As much as I’d love to hear 4 again, I doubt it. 5 could go either way.
When does the current back to school promo end. That is a good indicator as to the earliest date they will be available, could be be a few days after that. That way Apple is not giving out a bonus on newest hardware.
Sources? What sources? Nothing is confirmed or announced before Apple sends invites…
Also, Apple already addresses the mid-range with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
