“Apple reportedly may shift some of its iMac orders from Quanta Computer to Pegatron Technology, with some related upstream supply chain players revealing they sent iMac components to Pegatron recently; however Quanta Computer and Pegatron both said they have no knowledge of the reports and refused to comment on clients,” Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report for DigiTimes.
“Apple’s iMac orders are mostly placed with Quanta,” Lee and Tsai report. “Some market watchers pointed out that Pegatron used to produce MacBooks for Apple and is familiar with related production. If Apple is considering separating its orders, Pegatron should be one of the major candidates for the orders.”

DigiTimes excels at surrounding one or two isolated items, usually rumours, with an arrangement of seemingly related items and connecting the dots in the manner of an overly-earnest seeker of patterns: locating sacred faces on the surface of Mars, on a piece of tree bark, or on an enchilada.
One would think that an organization the size of Apple would be able to achieve manufacturing efficiency in-house rather than resorting to practically 100% outsourcing. Moreover, locating assembly plants nearer its consumers should allow significantly greater IP protection and goodwill. Instead of just shuffling papers in Ireland, build iMacs there! Install a new iPhone assembly line in Africa to serve the growing markets there. It’s a big world, and Apple surprisingly avoids most of it.
