“Apple has stepped up its pace of chip orders indicating the vendor is gearing up to launch new products,” Cage Chao and Jessie Shen report for DigiTimes.
“IC orders placed by Apple for the third quarter have nearly doubled over the prior quarter, according to sources at its supply chain partners,” Chao and Shen report. “Thanks to the upcoming rollouts of new iPhone and iPad devices, overall chip shipments to Apple are set to grow significantly in the second half of 2013, said the sources.”
Chao and Shen report, “Overall IC shipments for iOS devices in the second half of 2013 are expected to account for as high as 70% of the total for the year.”

These were the same Bozos who claimed a week ago that they Apple’s chip orders had fallen into an abyss. And of course, the mainstream media went crazy with that.

I have a feeling Apple orders as much as can be produced at the beginning of a products life cycle so they can control supply and timing when transitioning to new models. Doing this would explain why supply chain checks late in a products life would result in reduced orders and allow companies time to ramp up production of the next generation part.
