“The new Mac Pro is looking like it will be an absolute powerhouse, but even regulars Macs should see a major performance improvement running OS X 10.9 Mavericks, thanks to the new operating system’s incorporation of OpenGL 4,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac.
“Over on his personal site, Rishi Kumar ran a comparison of OpenGL performance between OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and OS X Maverick’s Developer Preview 1,” Brownlee reports. “Not only is OS X Mavericks much more compatible with the OpenGL standard than Mountain Lion (Mountain Lion didn’t even fully support OpenGL 3.3, while Mavericks supports up to OpenGL 4.1), but even running backwards compatibility comparisons in OpenGL 1.1 – 2.1, Mavericks showed performance gains from anywhere between 39 and 89%!”

It’s pretty obvious that your powerbook isn’t included, so your sarcastic remark is not really fitting here. LackofPowerPC architecture isn’t usable anymore on a daily basis, aside from dual core G5 machines.
I’ll be glad if Mavericks dumps the current so-called OSX “feature” that hides all active windows whenever I go to quit an App in the Dock. I use a second screen as a TV in our kitchen (EyeTV) and this is one the most backward, pointless, intrusive GUI trends ever introduced. It’s second only to the dimwitted gamer-driven fad of mousing around searching for hidden tab buttons and scrollbars; a relatively new addition to OSX that needlessly befuddles many (mostly elderly) users.
Am I missing something haven’t noticed any of this.
But the majority of games are made for Windows.
Times are changing, my friend. Microsoft is going the wrong way. In about 5-10 years, Windows will be all forgotten as a gaming platform. Mac OS and Linux are the way to go, for computer gaming at least.
If this is true, I will be the happiest person alive! Cause I am experiencing serious graphics lag in LP9 on Mountain lion. I also experience graphic lag (less than LP9) with LPX on ML. Coming from snow leopard it’s very difficult to deal with. Lets hope mavericks speeds everything up for my mid 2010 8-core Mac Pro cause it sure is a shame to see graphic lag yet see how the processors and harddrive barely kick up any sweat on the performance meter.
I should probably also just ask… Will this improve the graphic performance of apps generally in mavericks? Like in snow leopard things were snappy and fast and since lion it’s all gone to hell…. Or is this post related to something I don’t fully get yet? Anyone?
