Apple’s OS X 10.9 Mavericks is compatible with these Mac models

People familiar with the Mavericks Developer Preview have informed AppleInsider that the OS supports the following Macs:

• iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
• MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
• MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
• MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
• Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
• Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
• Xserve (Early 2009)

“In addition, the system requirements call for 64-bit, Intel-based Macs currently running Mac OS X 10.6.7 Snow Leopard or higher, with 8GB of free disk space for installation,” AppleInsider reports. “The computers and requirements listed above are nearly identical to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion’s requirements.”

  1. While I was just okay with Lion and Mountain Lion on my 2009 iMac, Mavericks feels like the first really compulsive upgrade since Snow Leopard which is still running on my 2007 Mac Pro (which can go up to Lion but that’s EOL). Leopard is still running on my G5 Mac Pro but there’s she stuck. I think it will be time to finally get rid of the G5, buy a new Mac Pro and consign my 2007 Mac Pro as a secondary system. Hmmm, love the sound of that. Now the real question – how much for the new Mac Pro? Here I am hoping for a pleasant surprise from Apple.

    1. The new Mac Pro is mighty tempting. If Apple holds to past conventions, then we can expect starting prices in the $2500 range for the base model (then add on HDs for storage). But who knows, a fall pricing surprise would be mighty welcome 🙂 )

  2. 3 out of 4 make the cut – the only one that does not is the Media Center iMac (2006). It might be time to upgrade my desktop and cascade that down to the Media Center.

  3. Both of mine make the cut, although I think it’s time the early 2008 MBP15 got an upgrade anyway. Just waiting on the Haswell-based Retina model and I’ll be good to go 🙂
