Apple today announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) June 10 through June 14 at San Francisco’s Moscone West.
At the five-day conference, developers from around the world will learn about the future of iOS and OS X®, enabling them to create incredible new apps with innovative features. WWDC will also feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs to help developers integrate new technologies, as well as the popular Apple Design Awards, a showcase of the most outstanding apps available through the App Store and Mac App Store. Tickets for this year’s WWDC go on sale Thursday, April 25 at 10am PDT/1pm EDT.
“We look forward to gathering at WWDC 2013 with the incredible community of iOS and OS X developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement. “Our developers have had the most prolific and profitable year ever, and we’re excited to show them the latest advances in software technologies and developer tools to help them create innovative new apps. We can’t wait to get new versions of iOS and OS X into their hands at WWDC.”
WWDC 2013 activities include:
• More than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on a wide range of topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and OS X technologies;
• more than 1,000 Apple engineers supporting over 100 hands-on labs and events to provide developers with code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques and guidance on how they can make the most of iOS and OS X technologies in their apps;
• the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X, and how to enhance an app’s functionality, performance, quality and design;
• the opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iOS and OS X developers from around the world—last year more than 60 countries were represented;
• engaging and inspirational lunchtime sessions with leading minds and influencers from the worlds of technology, science and entertainment; and
• Apple Design Awards which recognize iPhone, iPad and Mac apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design.

Yup, folk will not bother to download a free iOS upgrade. Instead they’ll shrewdly save themselves zero dollars by waiting to download the free upgrade that comes after.
Damn! Why aren’t you running Apple??
You are joking, right? Apple offers free iOS upgrades to any device capable of running them. They offer the up to date program so any computer purchased within 30 days before the OS is available gets a free update. Even the paid updates for the OS are only $20-$30, NOT $200+ like winblows (and pukes)
If you are talking planned early obsolescence, just look at any android device, which is either hamstrung by carriers or the mysterious ‘Android powers that be’ The OS that comes on your phone or craplet, oops, I mean tablet is the only one it will usually ever have.
Remember that the Osbourne effect is generally associated with hardware. As for Apple software, there is almost always an upgrade path if your phone is 3-4 years or newer, and your computer 4-5 years or newer.

Osbourne effect is not applicable here since unlike lost of the Android line users will get free upgrades if they buy now or later so there is no downside. Perhaps you need to back off from all the weed and hallucinogens you must be inhaling.
You mean like the way Microsoft pre-announces Windows releases 2, 3, or 4 years before the actual release date?
Apple doesn’t do that. And check your calendar. WWDC is less than 2 months away. Rather difficult for iOS and OS X to get “stale” in 6 weeks.

Apple’s software and hardware are as separate as can be. There’s no reason to wait for an iOS or OS X update to buy a new mac or iphone. You’ll always be able to install the next OS on the new device. For iPhone it won’t cost you anything, and for the mac it’ll be $20 at most (maybe free this time??).
Good luck keeping up-to-date with Android on just about ALL Android devices. Remember that term MDN keeps using around here? ‘FRAGMENTATION’?

Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to putting iOS 7 on my old iPod Touch 4. Astounding, isn’t it. That’s one reason I love Apple.
Every eligible Apple device gets the new OS at the same time. No waiting for your carrier to update to the latest version, if they ever do. When Google releases a new version, the carriers sit around in meetings for months staring at the tarball trying to decide whether to open it.
Absolutely – the opportunity to revive your faithful device – refresh it with a sweet snappy OS… updates are beautiful – only Apple makes the updates smooth – sexy – and free… but also these updates include security reasons as well.
Apple is a responsible company with the best intentions to change this world… that’s why iI love Apple.
Makes logical sense to me. Give developers the tools to rework their apps in June, then release the new hardware in the fall on iOS 7 and 10.9.

I’m excited, but hope they get this OS to work before they release it. Bad showing with Lion and there are still several things, as enumerated on these forums elsewhere, that need to be fixed. I started to make a list, but it would be several pages, right? Apple Fan here and I plan to remain one, just hope they don’t make that difficult.
Go get yourself a new Dull running Windoze 8 and rethink your comments. Don’t use internet forums as some sort of measuring stick, the internet is full of stupid.
How many REAL issues do you have on MTN Lion?
I sure wish they’d re-do iTunes 11 soon, and put back in some of the stuff they took out. They took the greatest music management tool ever invented and butchered it the last go around. No multiple windows is a real pain. Endless scrolling and right mousing.
Let’s just hope they continue to support Snow Leopard.
I hope Apple continues SL support too because my late 2006 15″ MBP still runs great with it.
