iPhone 5S delayed over fingerprint sensor coating, sources claim

“Supplier sources in Japan and Taiwan, home to dozens of Apple suppliers, said they initially expected mass-production of the next iPhone to begin in June,” Reiji Murai and Clare Jim report for Reuters.

“That date may have begun to slip beyond June, the sources said,” Murai and Jim report. “The phone, widely referred to as the iPhone 5S, is expected to include new features such as a fingerprint sensor. A supply chain source in Taiwan said Apple was trying to find a coating material that did not interfere with the fingerprint sensor, and this may be causing a delay.”

Murai and Jim report, “In addition to the 5S, suppliers say Apple is also developing a cheaper model, which can appeal to lower-income buyers in growth markets such as China and India. A supplier source in Japan told Reuters small-scale production of display panels will begin in May, ramping up to mass production in June. Both phones will use the same 4-inch screen, but the cheaper version will probably not include the new fingerprint technology and sport a cheaper plastic casing, the sources said.”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s Reuters, which lately is on a mission to destroy whatever credibility that it may have had regarding Apple at the very least, so you have to take whatever they report with many grains of salt.

    1. I don’t suppose you remember the much delayed white iPhone under Steve Jobs. Apple could not get the color right on the 4S. But people were not calling for SJ to step down. You guys are just stupid trolls.

  1. Let me translate: “I don’t like Tim Cook because I’m scared for Apple right now or a paid shill for their competition and I’m using any excuse to talk shit about him even if this is a manufacturing problem by a 2nd or 3rd party and completely out of his control”

I don’t give a fuck if you don’t like the guy, but you’re an off-topic troll in the worst way.

      1. Go ahead and aim your juvenile personal attacks at me as well.

This is yet one more report of poor leadership execution at Apple. Good leadership of a company wouldn’t have such a long string of late releases, poor quality releases, and so forth.

Jobs knew the importance of a family of iPods, that’s why he immediately took a winning idea and made it available to people at different price points with different capabilities. Now we see that the same company, which is now sitting on billions more in cash, can’t get the job done. Want a new iPhone? Just wait. Someday it will happen.

Well, users and investors are tired of waiting. The list goes on and on. Want a new Mac Pro? Just wait. Want iWork ’13? Sorry, Apple is 4 years behind. Want a Retina display for a desktop machine? Sorry, Apple hasn’t updated its displays in years. Want increased capability software? Sorry, FCP X, OSX 10.7 and 10.8, iTunes 11, etc all take far too many steps backwards – both removing key features people need and adding bloat that they don’t. But Cook doesn’t provide guidance on when the problems will be fixed. He expects everyone to wait until he is good & ready to do something about it.

“Just Wait” is not an adequate excuse for decisive leadership. Either get the job done or hire someone who can.

        1. @Mike,

Mike because of the Poor way you presented your generic rant / troll, and since the information reads exactly like a repost blog that was posted on Paul Thurrott’s Super Site for Windows during circa Vista / Windows 7 timeline by a third party blogger on why users should purchase a Windows based system over a Mac ….. Fail.

          Mile your just Trolling,
Any Apple user can see that you have thrown out a generic set of Microsoft Windows 7 Selling points with a added update to a date and a Hardware reference.

Mike your a True Relevant Apple hating Hack that is just Trolling.

Congratulations, unfortunately MDN has allot better on this site then you, and they use their own original Material.

  2. OMFG!!! An un-announced ship date has slipped!!!

    Holy F’ing F!

If you are so ridiculously stupid to suggest Cook should be fired because this proves that he is a FAIL at operations, you are seriously in need of more oxygen to your brain. I suspect the conditions relates to the tight grasp of your anal sphincter around your throat.

    1. As ludicrous as it may sound, saying these things actually work against Apple even if they don’t work against any other company. That in itself says there’s something horribly wrong with Apple as an investment. It’s just too easy to send Apple’s share price plummeting.

  3. This report is nonsense. In the last conference call, Apple clearly stated that they had finally finished moving the release of the iPhone to the fall. The expected release date for the iPhone 5s should be considered to be late August or early September. There is a delay only if you think that Apple intended a June or July release which is so much wishful thinking.

  4. 5S will NOT have a finger print sensor…

Get this already all investors, analysts and news reporters. iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are Apple’s cheap phones…. And that’s the end if that story.
