Apple’s Jonathan Ive named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list

TIME presents its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, from artists and leaders to pioneers, titans and icons. TIME Magazine features seven different special edition covers each featuring one of the TIME 100: Elon Musk, Rand Paul, Jennifer Lawrence, Jay Z, Aamir Khan, Malala Yousafzai, and Li Na. Notably, Apple CEO Tim Cook, although he made the list last year, is nowhere to be found, but Jony Ive did make the list:

Jonathan Ive:
Jony Ive is himself classic Apple. Brushed steel, polished glass hardware, complicated software honed to simplicity. His genius is not just his ability to see what others cannot but also how he applies it. To watch him with his workmates in the holy of holies, Apple’s design lab, or on a night out is to observe a very rare esprit de corps. They love their boss, and he loves them. What the competitors don’t seem to understand is you cannot get people this smart to work this hard just for money. Jony is Obi-Wan. His team are Jedi whose nobility depends on the pursuit of greatness over profit, believing the latter will always follow the former, stubbornly passing up near-term good opportunities to pursue great ones in the distance. Jony’s values happen to add value — emotional and financial. It takes a unique alchemy of form and function for millions of people to feel so passionately about the robot in their pocket. – Bono, musician and activist

  1. Jony Ive, any chance you could help the APPLE INVESTORS by suggesting to everyone else (like Tim Cook) to DO YOUR JOB and maybe never say “Be Patient” to people Apple is LOOSING 40% BY INVESTING IN AAPL WHILE APPLE WILL NOT!

Give us a reason not to sell every share of AAPL Wednesday morning.

    1. Agreed! Step out and make a statement! I just don’t understand. Maybe they have no answer? If Cook says anything along the lines of “be patient” next week I’m taking the losses and getting the f.,k out of the stock. Horrendous cash flow management. Please Apple leaders, do something for the people who actually believe in your business enough to invest in it.!!

“His team are Jedi whose nobility depends on the pursuit of greatness over profit, believing the latter will always follow the former, stubbornly passing up near-term good opportunities to pursue great ones in the distance.”

Apple doesn’t play for short term gain, they are playing a long game, very much longer than most. It’s not part of that strategy to do short term patches in order to satisfy Wall Street’s short term obsessions.

Jony Ive and Tim Cook are doing all they can to make sure that Apple will be a major force in Technology for many years to come. None of us want to see Apple end up like Microsoft or Dell.

I’m a long term shareholder in Apple and would obviously be happier if the stock were trading at a higher level, but the short term policies being advocated by analysts would do nothing positive in the longer term. It’s clear that there is a significant disconnection between the performance of Apple the company and the performance of AAPL in the hands of Wall Street’s speculators.

If something needs significant change, it’s Wall Street, not Apple. But I don’t see any sign that anything will ever be done about that.

  2. Gee, Bono must have gotten rimmed by the Elevate Partners Venture Capital group if he is back complementing Apple. Maybe he needs some cash from another U2 special edition iPad, Pod, or Phone.

  3. I think the writing is on the wall. Who would complain if Ive replaced Cook as CEO? A brilliant visionary bent on perfection is what Apple needs steering the ship. Cook was a good in his former role. Time for a shakeup I think!

  4. Wait wait what… Jay Z?
He is just a big marketing campaign nothing else. Talking strange to a beat. I wonder if he can play any instruments… I have no idea how he have gotten to where he is. There is just allot of style, attitude and marketing. Not allot of substance.
