The ever-increasingly vacant-eyed John Sculley, failed former Apple Computer CEO, discusses the next step for former J.C. Penney CEO Ron Johnson and how Samsung can use his retail expertise.

I think [Johnson’s] going to be in high demand; either go back to Apple, continue to build out the Apple store experience, or, if I were Samsung, I would be tapping him to go into those new fifty, uh, store-in-stores – ‘member the store-in-stores at JCP was very successful even though the overall company was’t – and Ron Johnson would be a superb executive to go in and build an experience for Samsung in the store-in-store at Best Buy similar to what he did at Apple… Apple has great products. “Piece of shit” is a far more accurate description of John Sculley with what he pulled on Steve and the effect Sculley had on Apple’s near demise. “Failed” doesn’t even begin to cover the magnitude of his stupidity.

I think that is is obvious that Samsung would be very keen to hire Johnson as part of their pathetic obsession with walking in Apple’s footsteps.
I would like to think that Johnson has enough sense to turn them down. His track record at Apple was excellent, while his brief time at JCP was pretty wretched. He needs another retail success under his belt and Samsung are unlikely to provide that for him.
They can have him! He’s no genius. As long as he doesn’t come back to Apple. You think Apple’s stock prices dropped in the last 6 1/2 months? Rehire Ron Johnson and see what happens. No, Apple doesn’t need him.

MDN: I would be happy Samsung employed Johnson. If he did a wrenchingly bad job at Penney’s, imagine the wrecking ball effect he will have at Samsung.
If I were Ron Johnson, I would accept Samdungs offer, negotiate a big wad of money for my services and proceed to intentionally destroy Samdungs stores within a store. Then I would go to Apple and say…”Mission Accomplished”.

Sculley has been out of the picture and off of anyone’s radar for over a decade. Why has he gotten so much press in the last 18 months?
Its a danged good thing he DID fire SJ. SJ said that the NeXT period was one of huge growth and creativity for him. His years away from Apple tempered, tested, and refined his skills and instincts. It helped make him the person that was able, willing and prepared to return to Apple and make it the company we know today.
Shut up about Ron Johnson already, especially those who kvetch and moan about what a failure he is. The totally ball-less JCP board aborted their support for a 3-5 year plan after 18 months. They failed, not Johnson. he cannot be judged as good or bad since he was never given the chance to complete his plan. It would be like hiring a contractor to remodel your home, let him get to ripping down all of the sheetrock, and firing him cause the framing looked ugly.

No, the time alloted to him was 3-5 years. The gutless (Ball-less) JCP board chickened out, its just that simple. If the JCP board wanted it in 18 months, they should have said so rather than approving a 3-5 year plan.
