Apple pulls iForgot password system to deal with security issue

“Apple has temporarily taken its iForgot password system offline to prevent against a security flaw that could let someone reset another person’s Apple ID by knowing only their email and birthdate,” Ina Fried reports for AllThingsD.

Fried reports, “‘Apple takes customer privacy very seriously,’ the company said in a statement on Friday. ‘We are aware of this issue, and working on a fix.'”

    1. Apple needs a kick in the ass every now and then if only to make then notice a problem.

All told, despite all the Apple Bear bullshit through the entire lifetime of the Mac, Apple has had a stunning security record, literally everyone else’s envy. That’s one reason Apple receives so much HATE. How dare they actually be better than my company, my favorite company, my crapware, my way of doing biznizz bozocity, ad nauseam. It’s never fun at the top, where all the losers are trying to kill you. Human idiocy on parade. 😛

  1. I absolutely …LOVE… the fact that Apple implemented two factor authentication today. I registered for it immediately once it became available. I recently enabled this for every provider I use online (that offer it). I feel so much better about my online security, especially after six hijacks in the past couple years, mainly due to theft of data of entire sites (Gizmodo, PlayStation, LinkedIn, etc).

  2. Okay… I’ll be the first to ask. What else can go wrong with this company in decline? Unfortunate answer… lots and lots. If Apple’s board of directors don’t do something about shoring up the management of this company, all the wheels are going to come off.

    1. Anonymous coward ‘Andy Anderson’: I have yet to see any list of anything indicating Apple is actually in ‘decline’. All I ever see is Apple Bear bullshit like yours. It’s called MANIPULATION and PROPAGANDA and it’s worthless, like it always is. Suckers beware. 😛

      1. @Derek – I drop by this site from time to time and nothing ever changes. You guys are blind in your fantasy world about Apple. Here’s a clue of your delusion – Steve Jobs was not a god. AAPL has collapsed. Apple has produced nothing new under Tim Cook. It doesn’t look like anything other than more sizes, screen resolution, thinner (why), and Jony Ive trying to make us believe it is more than that. And, what ever happened to the computer business. Oh, Apple is not a computer company anymore. Right? Decline – what else would you call it. And, if you have an answer, it’s not about the company’s vault full of money or its past sales or once upon a time when they delivered exciting products ON TIME, no it’s about a company in decline. Get over yourself.

        1. Exactly the opposite Andy. You don’t read what I write, do you. Instead you arrive with your particular set of exaggerations then paint them on people you don’t WANT to like or understand. Rant away with your Apple Bear bullshit. Nothing is going to stop you. But I will always be pointing at dickheads and making sure they’re as miserable as they wish everyone else was.

          Trolling is an illness kid.

    2. It’s simply suffering the pains of success. When it was a very small company (compared to Microsoft) it didn’t draw the attention of the bad guys. Those days are gone. It’s been clear for a long time to anyone who pays attention that Apple will be in the crosshairs of the hackers and knuckleheads. They’re big. They’re a big target now. Windows has been such an easy target for a long time. How much of a challenge is that for a really skilled bad guy? Not much. But OS X? Sure. The sky isn’t falling. But it isn’t exactly clear skies either. It’s reality, just live with it.

  3. This specific security problem was supposed to be solved last fall. Here we go again. At least Apple isn’t ignoring it. They just have to solve the damned thing permanently. The original system was simplistic. The black hat hackers these days only get smarter.

  4. Come on mdn if Samsung was in that position you would have kill them with your statements!
The correct mdn take should be: plz fill in here guys if you believe that mdn is protecting in a way Apple 😀
