Apple suppliers Hon Hai, TSMC to add 5,000 jobs each

“TSMC, the world’s top contract chip maker and Apple Inc supplier Hon Hai Precision are adding 5,000 new staff as the technology industry picks up, a local newspaper [Economic Daily] reported on Monday,” Reuters reports.

“Most of the headcount for Hon Hai, the main manufacturer of Apple’s products, will be in research and development for automated production, e-commerce and robots, while TSMC is mostly recruiting equipment managers, it said,” Reuters reports.

    1. I read that the Street’s consensus is that each of them needed to add 100,000 employees just for Apple to remain competitive. Without that Apple is DOOMED! /s

  1. Interesting that they are recruiting 5,000 people, largely to develop ways to automate what the existing employees are currently doing.

    When their work bears fruit and Hon Hai can employ fewer workers while maintaining production, it will be spun into a story about lack of demand for Apple’s products forcing layoffs.

  2. Those hirings may have nothing to do with it but remember that story that iMac stock models were available in 24 hours but BTO added 2-3 weeks… Well just checked and it is now 5 to 7 business days!
