“Earlier this week Bloomberg reported that Corning the maker of Apple’s iPhone glass stated that it would probably take at least three years before companies start making flexible displays using its new Willow material,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.
“That led to speculation that Apple’s iWatch would have to wait three years. While that was nice of Corning to provide us with their view of Apple’s world, don’t forget that LG made an announcement way back in August 2012 that they would be able to supply Apple with flexible OLED displays by the end of 2013,” Purcher reports. “LG Display’s CEO Han Sang-beom clearly stated in a Korean Times report that they would have screens ready by the end of 2013.”
Purcher reports, “Volume production on the other hand could take until 2014…”

“IWatch” as in I Watch whatever I want whenever I want on my new Apple TV. That’s where Apple is heading.
Even if LG is ready to put a flexible display into something, Apple still needs glass to cover it. Unless I’m misunderstanding just what LG is capable of providing to Apple.
That said, just because it will be 3 years before Willow is ready for flexible displays, doesn’t mean that curved displays can’t be available now.
This is all just market manipulation by tech “journalists” using words that mean something different than what they want to convey to trick people into buying/selling what they want them to.
Correct; this “flexible display” news is ignorant nonsense. Everything that is flexible is super scratch-prone so in real use buyers would have to throw away iWatch like every couple of months unless it is covered with hardened glass.

Why does it have to be flexible? I’ve never had a flexible watch nor wished I had one. I just want a beautiful Jony Ive-designed iWatch that will communicate with my iPhone or iPad so it can stay in my bag more. I don’t want a cheap thing that looks like a Nike FuelBand. I want a nice watch that happens to be made by Apple, and is connected.
