Forget about next-gen video game consoles from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft – Apple is going to dominate them all

“What I’m about to say is undoubtedly going to piss some of you off,” MG Siegler writes for TechCrunch. “And that’s fine. Because in a few years, I’ll be right and you’ll look silly.”

“While everyone is focused on the next generation video game consoles from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft — the latter two of which should be coming later this year — Apple is going to dominate them all,” Siegler writes. “And it won’t even be that difficult.”

“Anyone who has been following the smartphone space for the past few years knows that Apple has sort of backed into video game dominance by way of their iOS devices. Apple has sold over 500 million of them. These devices have yielded over 40 billion downloads of the over 800,000 apps. And a large portion of those apps are games,” Siegler writes. “Even if you lump together the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3, the Wii, and the Nintendo DS, Apple has still sold about 100 million more iOS devices than all of those systems combined… [and] in a much shorter span.”

Siegler writes, “The rumor that Apple would unveil some sort of Apple TV SDK at an event next month turned out to be bogus (as most things analysts say about Apple prove to be). But that doesn’t mean it’s not coming. In fact, I’d bet on it sooner rather than later.”

Step 1: Apple comes out with a Retina TV with a powerful app store, fairly priced channel packages, and first rate processor.
Step 2: There is no step two.

  2. Those who have vision will laugh at how cheap Apple WAS in the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the Apple unknown… the mysterious. The unexplainable. That is why you are here.

And now, for the first time, we are bringing to you, the full story of what happened on those fateful days. We are bringing you all the evidence, based only on the secret testimony, of the miserable consumer user souls, who survived this terrifying ordeal at the hands of Steve Ballmer, Eric Schmidt, Larry Page & Lee Kun Hee . The incidents, the places. My friend, we cannot keep this a secret any longer.

Let us punish the Microsoft, Google & Samsung guilty. Let us reward the Apple innocent. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts of superior technology and subsequent market & profit share takers from Cupertino, CA?!!!!!

    1. “You are interested in the Apple unknown… the mysterious. The unexplainable. That is why you are here.”

Wait, I can’t stop laughing… my vision has been clouded by tears for what has to be the funniest looking blood stain ever. Like Rorschach without symmetry, you play a zero-sum game of winner take all at the expense of everyone else.

  3. In order to do this Apple need to make a serious game dedicated hardware console and with good controllers and a touch of longevity. Not a device with a yearly hardware refresh such as my crappy little ATV3 with an iOS gaming SDK. And not relying on iOS device as a controller. Ugh !
That would still be successful but the experience won’t be the same cutting edge game oriented hardware. It would be fine for casual gamers but not for those who fuel the billlion dollar record setting console sales of COD each year.
I’m a serious gamer and have paid for games on my iPad. I never touch them, I always game on my XBOX. The experience is so much better.

    1. “I’m a serious gamer and have paid for games on my iPad.”

Yeah because only serious gamers pay for games, whereas the half-hearted steal games.

Your first mistake as a “serious” gamer was buying an iPad and TV to play COD. Did you really think the iPad or TV could reproduce the gaming experience of a console? Of course you didn’t, you bought them because you wanted them.

That was before you realized that unless you Jailbreak them, you’ll have to pay for everything.

The XBox experience is so much better because its a dedicated gaming machine, but let’s be clear, your XBox is shit compared to a custom gaming box. So don’t come in here bashing Apple because you can’t afford to buy a real game box.

  4. If any of you honestly think apple can “dominate” the gaming industry then you all have your heads in the sand. The core of the gaming industry are PC/Android users. They are the kids that like many options and customization and could give to sh its about ease of use. Apple will make a game console and it will fail miserably. It will be a great product for casual smartphone like games but real 3d 200 hours + gameplay type games? No chance
