Piper’s Munster sees evidence of Apple dividend increase, low-cost iPhone in Cook’s comments

“Following the presentation by Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook at the Goldman Sachs technology conference in San Francisco a short while ago, the stock is down $9.57, or 2%, at $470.36,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.

“Piper Jaffray‘s Gene Munster, who has an Overweight rating and a $767 price target, was one of the first Street analysts out of the chute, appearing on CNBC to talk about how Cook’s comments support his view the company is making a cheaper iPhone,” Ray reports. “‘The comments from Tim Cook about being very serious about cash distribution amps up the possibility they will raise the distribution after the March quarter,’ said Munster. ‘And we continue to believe that they’re coming out with this cheaper phone, and we think that Cook’s comments support that. Ultimately we think this is positive for the stock.'”

  1. an inexpensive phone, why has it taken so long?

we have CHOICES for the other devices:

iPad (wifi): 16 Gb, 32 Gb, 64 Gb
    iPad (wifi +cellular): 16 Gb, 32 Gb, 64 Gb, 128 Gb
    iPad mini (wifi): 16, 32, 64
    iPad mini (wifi +cellular): 16, 32, 64
    iPod touch (wifi only): 16, 32, 64

ALL BASICALLY the same device within marginal price differences

Yes you can add VIBER to your iPOD or iPAD and over wifi use it as a PHONE – however – Apple offers OLD models as the SAVINGs option – ITS not nice to offer outdated TECHNOLOGY to customer as a solution APPLE.

furthermore, APPLE needs to put the A6 processor INTO every device each time there is an advancement, even if it increases the price point.

Customers are getting tired of the SLIGHT improvements and APPLES math.

    1. They will only come out with a cheaper phone IF they can make a normal profit. Contrary to many pundits, they don’t watch the numbers as much as their profitability. Not a bad strategy. I like it. I like it a lot. What were those numbers again, 50% of the market BUT 70% of the profits? Balmier T Clown wishes secretly they had those numbers.

  2. Apple is not Epson printers with 375 zillion numeric ones to choose from…their lineup needs to stay simple and identifiable…besides, you can buy an iPhone 4 and 4S and get it cheaper…why muddy up the lineup? Leave the cheap phones to the other guys and instead complain about carrier subscription contract prices, which is where your real money goes whether you use the iPhone or not. There should be a $50 a month plan out there that doesn’t choke data to the point of overage worry. And since when should a text message cost any more than email? As long as we are stupid enough to pay it, the middlemen carriers will charge for it.
