“The new service was introduced only on Thursday and is designed to encourage Twitter members to share clips recorded on their smartphones,” Christopher Williams reports for The Telegraph. “Widely dubbed ‘Instagram for video,’ it extends Twitter’s 140-character ethos to video, with clips limited to just six seconds.”
“Over the weekend industry commentators noted that Vine was filling up with pornography, however,” Williams reports. “The choice of a graphic clip of a sex act as ‘editor’s pick’ today intensified the criticism, however. “Editor’s picks” appear on the home screen of the Vine app and are inserted into every member’s feed of clips.”
Williams reports, “‘I now have to delete this app. I will not chance my family seeing this,’ said Vine member Amy Mallory… Apple policy does not allow pornography in the App Store and last week banned 500px, a popular photography app that had a “nude” category. Commentators have noted that pornography in Vine is similarly easily accessible via related hashtags.”
