InfoWorld reviews Apple’s iPad mini: Far superior; outclasses Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD, Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

“When Apple announced the iPad Mini, I didn’t really see the point. At best, I thought, it would be a portable iTunes appliance that would move past the book orientation of the Kindle-style media tablet,” Galen Gruman writes for InfoWorld. “There’s nothing wrong with that, but it didn’t seem interesting. However, after spending several days with the iPad Mini, I get it.”

“Yes, it’s a far superior media tablet than the Kindle Fire HD or Nexus 7 — as Apple products tend to be when they enter an established market. And the iPad Mini outclasses both the 7-inch Nexus 7 and the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 as business tablets,” Gruman writes. “But the iPad Mini is also every bit as good as a full-size iPad as a ‘regular’ business tablet, at least if your apps are readable on it, as so many are. That surprised me. For people in highly portable field jobs, the Mini could make the regular iPad look as excessively bulky as the iPad compared to a laptop.”

Gruman writes, “I suspect as more people use it, the real value will be clear, and Apple will have again established a new category of must-have product in which it has no serious rivals. It’s that good.”

  1. “There’s nothing wrong with that, but it didn’t seem interesting”
That what we like to call “THE STEVE JOBS EFFECT” He always knew what the user want even before they knew they want it.

    1. I have to wonder, with all these anti-apple publications coming out with rave review after rave review for Apple products, how so many “common” folks keep ranting that they want Apple to be like Samdung????

You know, race to the bottom in hardware cost, make every color in the rainbow and more, and act like Walmart, Kmart, and sears in how they do business.!!!!! Oh and do not come out with hardware updates for years, so they can feel good about having old hardware… Cause we all know how your great iPad just stops working when the new one comes out.

Anyway, end of rant. Why are there so many crazy people in the world.?????? Just wondering. LOL

  2. But… but… Apple has lost its magic! This is a ho-hum device at too high of a price point! Steve Jobs himself said 7″ tablets (ignore that this is 7.9″) are DOA! Apple is becoming Microsoft!

  3. Just got back from Apple store. Wife and I went in to see just how bad the screen is on the new iPad mini. Well they must have shown us a trick Retina screen demo model. Beautiful screen. I had to pry my wifes hands off the thing. She was hooked. We have iPad 3s with Retina and we have iPhone 5 and a 4S. And soon we will have iPad minis. Ordered a 16 gig and a 32 gig. One AT&T and one Verizon. Trust me, do not let your wife or children pick one up. They will have to have one.

  4. I’ll be picking one up this weekend for sure. I spent about an hour during two visits to the local Apple Store and I’m sold. I have the iPad 2 which I still love so I’m not spoiled by the Retina yet on the iPad side of things. The mini really surprised me. It didn’t feel cramped at all as I thought it would. It really was the full iPad experience and the light weight and thinness makes it that much better.

  5. Stopped by the Apple Store to buy a pair of the new earbuds (OMG! Great sound/Comfortable beyond belief). Thought I’d check out the iPad 4, great machine but both demo units were pretty warm compared to earlier iterations. Had absolutely no interest in the mini until I saw and used the demo. OMG x2! WAaaay bigger screen than I imagined. Crisp screen so close to retina that alot of folks will think it is. So light & thin & fast. I’m going to keep my existing iPad and buy the AT&T Mini as soon as it’s available. I went in thinking the thing was a “Frog” turns out it’s a “Princess!” Apple’s gonna sell a ship-load of these to the “I don’t need a mini” minions!

  6. what is it? are they smoking or something? ipad mini is failed to bring magic, expectation. mostly, it has no retina display, and overprice. game is over. apple is over. plus, if they will really switch to their own processor (ARM), the company will fail for sure. nowadays, apple doesn’t know what to do. it’s really bad.

      1. wow, you must be brainwashing by apple. then explain why apple stock has been fallen for two months? it will be continually down anyway. I guess you can’t. you have no idea how bad world economy is. even I have AAPL, other stock, I am not comfortable to watch that shit. do you know what I mean?

        1. Guys please just ignore Edward he is just a Korean troll. Hence the lame English. He is probably a Samsung planted here. He usually only comments on articles concerning Samsung. He twin Chris is probably lurking around here somewhere. Don’t feed the trolls

        2. Edward, is there some reason you can’t stay confined to your cesspool? Is it getting to deep for you? Be careful, or someone might deflate your tube, and since you can’t swim, you might drown. We wouldn’t want that to happen, would we?😁🚽🆘🚑

        3. Idiotic twat.
Take a look at this quote:

“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that’s all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

          -John Ruskin 1819-1900.

As true then as it is now – you get what you pay for. If you took the time to look at the build quality of a mini or iPad (or any Apple product come to that) and the sheer ease with which it can be used then you would appreciate that it is the price it is for the simple reason that it is what is it WORTH.

  7. Still using iPad with retina. Mini – it’s step backward, very dissapoindeted about mini.. As if assembled from old unsolded parts. Imho with iPhone5 and iPad mini Apple start losing their customers

  8. I love my new iPad Mini! I picked one up right away and it doesn’t disappoint me. I was so excited to get my iPad Mini, because it is easier for me to carry around in my purse. I use it for everything from a planner to watching TV. I am constantly traveling for my job with DISH, and I hate missing all my shows. I use my DISH Remote Access app, which allows me to watch live TV wherever I can get a Wi-Fi connection. I used to take my regular iPad with me, and I always hated having to haul it around in my purse. It always weighed me down. I personally think the iPad Mini is well worth the price!
