Analyst: 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display on track to production this quarter

“A 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display is on track for production, according to an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch.,” Brooke Crothers reports for CNET.

“DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim has been telling CNET for a while now that a 13.3-inch Retina version of the MacBook Pro (MBP) is slated for production in the fourth quarter,” Crothers reports. “And today Shim reiterated that he sees no change in those production plans.”

Crothers reports, “Shim confirmed today that the MBP 13.3-incher will have a 2,560-by-1,600 pixel density display. That compares with the 2880-by-1800 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro announced in June.”

  1. This is the first important Apple product since ages I won’t buy. I have the 11″ MacBook and the 15″ MacBook Pro Retina, so I am pretty well equipped with MacBooks. But for sure a great move. Looking forward to a 11″ Retina. After your first Retina product everything else looks grainy.

  2. Apple will stay ahead of the competition by introducing retina displays across their entire line. They’ll give us a thinner profile in updates that follow, ensuring they have the best laptops.

For desktops, I wonder if the iTV is really an iMac with enhanced capabilities.

For mobile, it’s clear that thinner, higher quality products will be what they’re aiming for. I imagine that the new iPad coming out in the spring will crush the competition. Nobody can even compete with the iPad 2 yet. Microsoft Surface is the only chance Apple gets some competition in the non-iPhone mobile space.
