“Based on our extensive Lab measurements the iPhone 5 has a true state-of-the-art display – it’s not perfect and there is plenty of room for improvements (and competitors) but it’s the best Smartphone display we have tested to date,” Dr. Raymond M. Soneira reports for DisplayMate.
“It is the Brightest Smartphone we have tested in the Shoot-Out series, it has one of the lowest screen Reflectance values we have ever measured, it has the highest Contrast Rating for High Ambient Light for any Mobile device we have ever tested, and it’s Color Gamut and Factory Calibration are second only to the new iPad,” Soneira reports.
“In particular it is a significant improvement over the display in the iPhone 4 with much lower screen Reflections, much higher image contrast and screen readability in high ambient lighting (the highest we have ever measured), and a significantly improved and accurate Color Gamut and Factory Calibration that delivers very accurate colors and very good picture quality,” Soneira reports. “While it’s not quite as accurate as the new iPad, it is still probably more accurate than any consumer display you own (including your HDTV), unless you have a new iPad.”

Yet. CNET is reporting light leakage? What is this Propaganda Month! What are to believe these days?
I wouldn’t believe CNUT or ZDNUT about issues. They blow it out of proportion to garner hits and pacify the iHaters and Google/Android/Samsung idiots.
In fairness… we should always question all reviewers as you often wonder if they are on the take when they rant all positives for any of the products they review.
The screen really is noticeably more clear and better color clarity. Love the size too.
Would seem that this review also serves as quite the advertisement for the iPad 3. At least for myself and anyone else who was thinking about upgrading… hearing that the iPad 3 (I know Apple doesn’t call it this) has such an awesome display makes me want to upgrade my iPad 2.
I would wait for the next iPad. Don’t see how they can keep the screen size the same now. My guess is the screen size change is to match computer monitors for thy day hey make an iTouchMac.
You won’t see a 16:9 iPad — unless it’s the rumored “mini.”
The shape of the current iPad lineup is perfect for most hands.
This says it has a significantly brighter and less reflective than the previous iPhone. Does that mean it’s finally good enough for sunny outdoor use, like beach reading?
I’ll answer my own question – based on multiple reviews I’ve read, the iPhone 5’s display is easily to read in direct sunlight. Yet another reason to upgrade!
Hear that?! *Pop* *Pop*…*Pop*… *Pop**Pop**Pop**Pop*…
Fandroid heads exploding.
