Analyst estimates Apple will sell over 200 million iPhone units in 2013

“The strength of the iPhone 5 could help Apple buck seasonal trends in the first quarter of calendar 2013, setting the company up to sell more than 200 million iPhones next year,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“Analyst Katy Huberty with Morgan Stanley sees Apple achieving that lofty sum after meeting with a supplier and distribution partner of Apple in Asia,” Hughes reports. “She said both suppliers and carriers are bullish on demand for the iPhone 5.”

Hughes reports, “Huberty sees Apple selling 25 million iPhones in the September quarter, which concludes this week, while she expects record shattering sales of 50 million iPhones in the December quarter. Even those numbers may prove conservative, she said, as Apple could see ‘significant upside if component constraints improve.'”

  1. AAPL was down ~$14 early this morning because they ONLY sold 5 more than million phone, stores are out of stock and Foxconn workers are rioting in the streets. And that damn maps thing!!! “Analysts” were disappointed by the “low” sales. Uhhhhh huh.

(but, FWIW, by 9:50 am EST the stock had come back toe ~$6.93 or -$6.20)

  2. This is really par for the course. Making up numbers is part of their job.
Apple may sell 120M this year so a jump to 200M would represent a 60% increase. Possible but as usual it will create disappointment if they don’t reach it.

    1. Perfectly said. All these pie in the sky predictions and propaganda does nothing to help any company and that includes Apple Inc. 200 million units! Not sure about that # as Android and Windows Phone will have something to say about this as well.

FYI, I bought 2 via Apple.ca on the pre-order day and both have been shipped 2 weeks ahead of the original date that Apple prescribed when I ordered them.
