Occupy Wall Street activists join Apple Store Fifth Avenue’s iPhone 5 queue

“Veteran line-sitter Jessica Mellow, who’s been camping out in front of the big glass cube of Apple’s Fifth Avenue store since last Thursday, reports that at 10 p.m. Wednesday… a contingent of activists from the Occupy Wall Street movement showed up and began settling in for the night,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

P.E.D reports, “‘They took about 20 spots, and they have nicer sleeping bags than we do,’ she says. ‘I hear there are more on the way. All I know is that they are planning some sort of (peaceful) protest. They want to put up tents but I don’t think they will be allowed. And they are protesting Foxconn and slave labor in China.'”

    1. All u posters disgust me. Do u wish there was no one brave enough to stand up to corporate America?! Do u wish no one had braved the civil rights movement? Or Vietnam War peace movement? Complacent America hasn’t had a full on protest in decades so its no wonder we are rusty, but to put them down for exercising their 1st amendment rights is cowardly and un-American. They do not accept the status quo and are not fooled by trickle-down economics and the Faux (Fox) patriots who are duped into thinking more corporate welfare, tax breaks for the rich and Wall St. speculation is the answer when in fact it caused this mess. OBAMA 2012

      1. Huh? And this has exactly what to do with Apple? Our economy is in a mess. Real unemployment (U6 figures) is above 15%. More people are poor. More people on food stamps. And this is because of Obama’s policies. And please stop with the tax breaks for the rich nonsense. The Bush tax cuts were for everyone – not the rich as your handlers would have you think.

        1. The Bush tax cuts are what put this country in the mess it is in.
Bush was handed a surplus and passed on a deficit. And if they worked for creating jobs, they would have created jobs by now. So, whoever they were for, they failed to help America and the need to be repealed.

Also, OWS had an extremely important job to do and they have failed to accomplish anything. They only thing that they are willing to do as a group is show up. I for one am truly disappointed in this stagnant “movement”.

        2. Uhhh. Not really. The Bush tax cuts for everyone increased treasury revenues. The deficit was due to SPENDING, SPENDING and SPENDING. Yeah, Bush and the Congresses during his terms spent way too much. That’s why Obama’s doubling-down on even more spending is really devastating. And I would trade Bush’s unemployment figures in any of his years for Obama’s any day of the week.

        3. Wrong. The Bush tax cuts increased revenue to the treasury. The deficit was due to SPENDING. It was too much under Bush and it’s WAY TOO MUCH under Obama the Great. And please, I would trade Bush’s unemployment figures in any of his years for Obama’s dismal 15+% U6 unemployment numbers. Obama fail.

        4. He’s not gaining jobs in a rough estimate you would need to gains of over 300000 jobs a month to make a difference. So yes jimmy facts are a bitch to bad their against your arguement.

        5. Obama losing jobs. We have huge numbers of people no longer counted since they fell off the back end having given up in despair, and are no longer counted.

Bush saved us from economic collapse after Sept 11. Obama got a minor correction by comparison and has turned it into a near depression.

        6. Here is a fact. We are at the same point of people employed as we were 31 years ago. Our population has grown greatly in 31 years so you would think that we would have the same percentage of people employed. But due to the policies of Obama, so many people are out of work and given up so much that we haven’t had this low of a level of employed people in 31 years. I just have no idea how anyone can wake up in the morning and be okay with be a lefty. It boggles the mind.

      2. Most of the Occupy movement seems to be made up of young adult slackers who want their status in life handed to them. Since when is being successful a crime in the free world. The younger generation wants it all…and feel entitled to expect someone else to sacrifice their hard work to support them.

The world don’t owe you shit!

        1. Try again, next time without a false narrative.

          You ASSUME they are slackers.
You ASSUME they want life handed to them.
You assume they have contempt for success.
          You assume they feel entitled.

Clearly you have been listening to everyone except them. What is it like to go through life so sheepishly manipulated into thinking and acting how you are told to I wonder?

The occupy movement is about fighting a rigged system. They do not want to sit around while you work and live from your efforts moron, they want real opportunities and real freedoms. You know.. that shit your teabagger masters talk about but never realize? Too busy kissing corporate ass and controlling vaginas.

I see similar logic in Faux patriots who chicken hawk us into BS like iraq (soon Iran, for no good reason) Waving your flag while guys like me are left as IED fodder. Ever been soaked in your buddies blood while he dies in your arms before? Yeah, shit just got real douchebag.

Im a veteran and I support OWS, I hate undereducated, stupid, opinionated, pricks like you.

        2. Awww Mikey doesn’t like it.. TOO F-ING bad. I’ve seen the shit Bush and Cheney have sown and I’ve watched my brothers die.

I am sick and tired of the reich wingers in this country (and on this website) and the stupid shit that comes out of their mouths, I’m not going to be nice about it anymore, there is nothing nice about you little nazi pricks.

          let’s see:

Pro Gun to a fault (Zimmerman’s case is looking worse by the minute)
          Anti-union (anti-people)
Anti-Woman (you don’t want to pay them fairly, you want to control their vaginas, want a category scale for RAPE)
Pro-religion (can you say American Taliban, enjoy the koolaid zealots)
Anti-Science (Keep on denying it, that will make it go away clowns)
Anti-Welfare (Anti-people) You keep saying the private sector can do it better, but somehow business and communities never really live up to that do they?
Pro-Tax cuts (as we are sinking in debt and really need the money, meanwhile you max out your own credit)
          Anti-teacher (dunce cap vindication maybe?)
Pro-Pollution (anti-regulation, same thing, call it what is really is)

And just what kind of dimwitted moron do you have to be to support Romney? That guy is a world class douchbag, talk about entitled. Talk about wacko religions, the guy is a MORMAN BISHOP. You people are FOOLS.

        3. As a Canadian small business owner, I work my ass off for what I have. We have those Occupy movements up here too…and from what I see…most are under-worked, entitled, lazy socialists that want me to support them with even more over-bearing social programs that are bankrupting countries around the world.

I’m not for corporate America, and I laugh at the fiasco created by YOUR government, and the handling of the crooks on Wall Street with kid gloves.

I sympathize with your situation…but unless you joined the service wearing rose coloured glasses…you must have seen this coming. America has been headed this way for a long time. The sooner the religious zealots are removed the better. Until then, get used to more of the modern Crusades.

(Oh yeah…I’m a prick because your leaders sent you to a war you didn’t agree with. Nice logic. Remember…you weren’t there on my behalf.

        4. Well Sherm, I got you pegged all wrong.

You are right, I knew what MIGHT happen (But I signed up prior to BUSH) and I was mainly there to see the world and EARN college money, SHIT GOT REAL. I’m not complaining about that though, it is why it is. It is the faux patriots, the flag waving chicken hawk neocons that want to pat my back and thank me for watching my friends die and shooting people that I find offensive. It is INSANE to say the least.

I know some occupiers (outside of NYC) and they are thoughtful intelligent people. I find their protest honorable and thing they speak for a just cause. I thing protest and civil disobedience as a true hallmark of a free society. MANY wall street bankers should be behind bars, but the rich robber baron class is worshiped here in the States and it sickens me to the pit of my stomach.

It has nothing to do with wanting a handout or feeling entitled, however I will point out that the party calling the most names and spewing the discrediting accusations at OWS are the same party that tries to wear the constitution like it is theirs and theirs alone. Strange how that works isn’t it?

Anyhow, I’ve decided you are not a prick, and the handful of canadians I’ve known are rational humans as you seem to be. How about you guys start exporting some of that?

My apologies to a non-prick in a room full of pricks.

        5. ahhh, no problem..and I agree that modern government doesn’t work anymore. Only the rich can afford to get into politics and they don’t understand (care) what we have to say after they’re elected.

We are becoming a welfare state up here as less people work and more people suck on the tit of social assistance.

      3. Congratulations Jimmy, in one post you managed to call me disgusting, cowardly, complacent, rusty, foolish, faux (haha that joke is so funny especially when you use it over and over), duped, and… oh wait, you also called me a patriot 😉 Thanks for that. You seem to know a lot about me. It appears my posts have a lot of power over you since they are able to disgust you, even when I wasn’t trying. Again, congratulations on your genius, and best wishes with your iPhone5 line protest, and your new sleeping bag!

        1. Not a patriot, a FAUX-patriot 🙂 Flag waving and couch-potato twittering opinions doesn’t make a patriot…having the balls to exercise your first amendment rights in public is the most patriotic and what separates our country from others. OBAMA 2012

        2. I’m glad to know that my vote will at least cancel out your vote. Anyone can “protest.” A motivated person can look for a job, go back to school and re-train if they can’t find a job in their chosen field. I went back to school FT while working FT. I can now afford things like an iPhone 5 because I was productive rather than “protesting.”

      4. I don’t think I have seen anyone call the OWS people idiots for using the 1st Amendment right. I do believe all of the objections and put downs have been based on the message that the OWS lunatics are spouting.

      5. Jimmy, the folks at OWS are ALSO not fooled by Obama and the Democrats, who are working in a bi-partisan manner with Republicans to strip away our rights by taking every part of the police state of George W. Bush and running with it – indefinite military detention, drone assassinations, warrantless searches, condoning torture that even went beyond what Bush’s lawyers allowed, and more. That said, I think some will vote for Obama due to his better support for women’s rights, marriage equality, and other social issues.

But, for all who didn’t know, probably because you only watch the laughably pathetic mainstream media, I believe part of the protest at the Apple Store was not just about lobbying Apple to improve conditions of its workers. This was also to demonstrate that people camped out in lines overnight to purchase items are treated well by the police, while the NYPD has routinely been harassing protesters staging “sleepful protests” outside various institutions. That harassment has included arresting people for taking up less than half of the sidewalk, stealing protesters’ food supplies and protest signs, and generally threatening them on a periodic basis. Not surprisingly, the NYPD didn’t treat consumers that way.

In other words, folks, peaceful protests that are protected by the First Amendment are heavily discouraged by the police, while passive consumerism that supports a big corporation is not only allowed, but encouraged. Look up the article where the NYPD was helping people register their new iPhones in case they were stolen. Contrast that with the police stealing from protesters down by Wall St.

    1. Perhaps it is your own lack of courage and conviction that stirs this hatred of OWS.

They are not Anti-Business, shows what you know of their platform. Let me guess: Faux News and Limbaugh told you the “facts”.

      1. Do I agree with their opposition to corporate welfare? Yes. Do I approve of their methods? Certainly not. The contingent of “occupiers” that had destroyed property, defecated on police cars, assaulted their fellow occupiers, however large or small in number they may be, have hamstrung the movement.

        1. It is documented that police were stirring up trouble (posing as OWS protestors) in Oakland and in NYC. You have to see and acknowledge this truth before you can begin to reconciled the facts.

You also have to acknowledge that until Bloomberg ordered the NYPD to act like the Gestapo, it was VERY peaceful. Disruptive, but peaceful. When you send in waves of thugs with batons and body armer beating the living shit out of people 6 on 1, well expect what you are gonna get. If the cops are gleefully macing young girls for no reason, there is a problem and it isn’t OWS.

If the cops were beating up my friends, taking my property and generally acting menacing, I might think about dropping a steamer for em on the hood (well, OK, not my style, but I get where it was coming from)

ALL of that aside, you cannot take a handful of bad apples and then justify hating apples because a few were bad. Pick a group in the US and I will find you bad Apples amongst them.

What hamstrung the movement was Bloomberg interfering with a free press and a wall street sponsored big media blackout on the movement. (and freezing cold)

    1. I work in NYC. I know plenty about OWS.
But please: if you feel that there’s some angle on this played-out, over-indulged collection of homeless people, underemployed career malcontents and college students, half of which have no idea what they’re even protesting, feel free to educate us about it.

    2. The occupy movement, by all accounts, interviews, and publicized materials, is a lose coalition of the most politically uninformed examples of self centered whiney, me first, never had to work a real job in their lives, jerks.

      – I want free tuition!
      – I want free housing!
      – I want free transportation!
      – I want free medical care!
      – Let’s get those rich people and take what’s ours!
      – Let’s partner with La Raza!
      – How dare those people go to school, major in something useful, get paid a lot! That’s our money!
      – If you don’t side with us, you’re a racist homophobe!
      – Let’s disrupt anyone going to work or doing business because they suck!
      – Let’s destroy property, commit theft during our protests, and rape and murder a few people, cause we’re just letting off steam and Obama told the cops to go easy on us!
      – We’re the future unlike those “American Taliban” Tea Party people who haven’t done a dime in damage during their gatherings. Biden says they’re terrorists!
      -OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!

      Yeah… typical morons.

      1. So basically nothing you said is true. It was actually proven that Fox News planted people into the movement to say these things. None of them were complaining about other people going to school. In fact a lot of them are college students. They never interrupted anything relating to business matters they protested in the parks and at night. There were a few bad strains of people in the movement that were destroying property but they aren’t what the movement stands for. A lot of the “battles” in OWS were started by police, you’d know this if you were actually paying attention. None of them were saying that they were the future, though they are the next generation. The point was the USA’s politicians are bought and don’t actually decide on what happens. It isn’t a real democracy. They want to have the democracy back and get money out of politics so that everybody has a fair shot at the “American dream”.

        1. And you and “Mitch” absolutely revolt us, Jimmy. Don’t you understand what losers, malcontents, miscreants, nihilists, misfits, and arrested-devlopmental morons you all are? You have nothing positive to contribute to this society–and are incapable of competing within it–so you “attempt” to tear it down to your level of incompetence, mediocrity, and desuetude.

You and your kind would be more than content to live in the world of “Idiocracy”! (Seen the movie?) Such a society sucks by any rational standard, but pigs like you will be deliriously happy–and equal–in the pigsty.

        2. Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

        3. When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money.
That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is – everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.
The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing. It’s to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.
I think that’s very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better, cause it’s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again

          -Steve Jobs

        4. Jimmy, there’s mounting evidence that OWS was not some spontaneous, grass-roots movement but rather carefully organized by several unions. Is it all true? Who knows, but with a complete lack of ideas, incoherent message, and the lawlessness and violence that OWS Oakland, NYC and other places have endorsed and encouraged, this movement has lost all credibility.

  1. So they will be feeding the coffers of the largest market cap company on the planet, as well as one of the largest telecommunications companies in the US. You just can’t make this stuff up.

  2. Funny how they have nicer sleeping bags than the “wealthy” who are getting iPhone 5s.

People in line should take video and photos of the OWS people using their smartphones and generally being the hypocrites they are.

  3. I think the article is inaccurate when it claims that they won’t be allowed to put up tents. I think it is more fitting to say they are waiting for Obama to come and put up the tents for them. Because we all know “You didn’t build that..” It takes the government to do it for them.

  4. The article says they are protesting slave labor in China. They should go to China and protest. I’ll chip in for a one way boat ride to China for them to go protest over there. Once they get there, let’s see how well their 1st Amendment Right stands up in China.

    1. In other words. Union aholes. Yeah, let’s build iPhones here in the USA with union workers. LOL!!! The new iPhone 6 – Only $999 with a 2 year contract. If it weren’t for the leftist mainstream media, Romney would be up by 30%.

    2. The sad thing is that if you asked them about any facts regarding “slave labor” in China, the OWS people in line wouldn’t know the first thing about it. I’m beginning to believe more and more that OWS is organized (and its “protestors” paid) by organization(s) which don’t want their name associated with it.

  5. There’s significant evidence that the powers within the DNC purposely lifted OWS off the ground to counter the Tea Party. The difference of course is that the Tea Party is a grass roots, peaceful, inclusive movement. The OWS movement was orchestrated to influence America’s opinion of the wealthy so that Obama could run on a pledge to ‘tax the rich’ during this election cycle. Of course, the DNC underestimated how out of control OWS would get and now is trying to shut it down… but can’t.

  6. Rubber Bullets. Lots and lots of rubber bullets. These losers were in Tampa last month and they were the nastiest/filthiest looking miscreants you ever want to see.

Sad thing is they had little children with them and they even used them as shields when facing a contingent of police officers. Even the little children were cursing and shouting “F the Cops”.

Depressing people could be this messed up.

    1. They had a NY Post cover with one of these losers taunting a cop with a doughnut on a string attached to a stick. You could tell by the look on the cop’s face that he was fantasizing about tazing the guy in the nutsack.

        1. You couldn’t be more wrong.

Oakland is being sued: On two recent occasions (Oct. 25 and Nov. 2) the OPD and cooperating police agencies under their direction indiscriminately shot flash-bang grenades and other projectiles into crowds of Occupy Oakland protesters. These actions clearly violate the Fourth Amendment by subjecting protesters who posed no safety concerns to unnecessary and excessive force, and the First Amendment by interfering with demonstrators’ rights to assemble and demonstrate.

Oakland PD doing what they do, starting fights and busting heads. It is also documented that they had officers POSING as OWS to stir up violence, so they could introduce their own.

Similar incidents happened in new york.

Go back to sleep now little lamb..
