“Apple Inc. (AAPL) is poised for a record iPhone 5 debut and may not be able to keep up with demand as customers line up from Sydney to New York to pick up the latest model of its top-selling product,” Adam Satariano and Ryan Faughnder report for Bloomberg.
“The iPhone 5, introduced last week, hits stores today in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the U.K,” Satariano and Faughnder report. “The crowds reinforce estimates from analysts the iPhone 5 will be the largest consumer-electronics debut in history. Apple may sell as many as 10 million iPhones during the weekend sales rush, according to Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray Cos. Because Apple generates about two-thirds of its profit from the iPhone, a successful introduction is critical to fuel growth that has led investors to catapult Cupertino, California-based Apple to the world’s most valuable company.”

Satariano and Faughnder report, “Apple is introducing the iPhone across the world faster than any of the device’s five previous debuts. The iPhone will go on sale in 22 more countries on Sept. 28, Apple said. Apple said it will be in more than 100 countries by the end of the year… The benefits of a successful iPhone debut extend beyond Apple. Suppliers including Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM), Broadcom Corp., LG Display (034220) and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (2317), the owner of Foxconn Technology Co. (2354), also will see a gain, according to Barclays.”

It’s not the distance that surprises me, but how are those customers managing to stand on water all that time and not lose their place in line.

what if people switching from android or windows don’t yet have the iJesus app? If they have a Samsung device, chances are they already copied it.
I’ve just noticed that I’m able to send and receive iMessages over cellular! Basically my sister has a Wi-Fi only iPad (3rd Generation), and while I was out in London I started receiving iMessages from her – I was pretty shocked so I tried sending iMessages back to her, and hey presto! Can any one confirm this is happening to them? Because this definitely was not working before I updated to iOS 6! And as far as I know iMessages DOES NOT work over cellular!
iMessage has always worked over cellular.
Why is everybody so down on iMessage lately? Yes, it works, and yes, it works over cellular.
My co-worker just informed me that iMessage is not working seamlessly across all of his devices, from iPhone to iPad to Mac (as it should have from the beginning). He just sent a text to his girlfriend from his computer and it showed up almost instantly on his iPhone. That’s another step in the right direction.
Since yesterday’s iOS 6 release and OS X update iMessage has been very seamless for me. Nary a problem syncing across all devices – Mac, iPad, iPhone. Works great.
These hiccups sometime happen
Can’t wait to hear Wall Street say, “Disappointing sales. 10 million iPhone 5 units predicted to be sold but falls short by half a million.” That should be good enough reason to cause Apple shares to fall.
Even if that’s all the supply Apple had.
