A Novella for nerds! Can’t wait.
Jony Ive: “We take changing the iPhone really seriously.”
right… uhmm I been busy on other projects cant we just make it taller this time?
hahaha what will we do for iPhone 6?
Taller – faster – and thinner – but with the rounded corners.
Lame.
SHOVE the shuffle, its JUNK.
NEW nano is CRAP, too.
PEOPLE you don’t need yet another MP3 player.
JUST because Apple new ITUNES wouldn’t run on your old device… don’t be forced to upgrade – it’s a shitty move on Apples part.
BOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!! No innovation here. Move on.
lol
Poor trolls. Every time it’s the same – they declare that Apple is doomed after its latest product unveiling, then watch in horror as Apple dominates. Again.
The iPhone 5, upgraded in every possible way over the iPhone 4S. Surely that won’t be popular.
The iPod Nano, upgraded into a mini iPod Touch. Who could possibly want that? I mean, when as anyone ever said to themselves “Boy, I wish the Nano was better?”
And the iPod Touch nearly as upgraded as the iPhone 5, with Apple hinting that they’re going to focus on it as a handheld gaming device? FLOP OF THE YEAR.
And their share price is going down? Oh my god. That’s only happened every single time they’ve had a new product announcement, except for literally one time I can remember – I believe it was Steve Jobs’ last appearance.
Well, that’s it. Obviously the future belongs the Google and Microsoft. Sure, Android is a fractured disaster and Windows Phone is selling like turds, but Apple just screwed up so royally that doesn’t even matter anymore.
Time to shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders…
• 1:56PM EDT: AAPL $665.14, -$4.55, -0.69%

• 12:48PM EDT: AAPL $661.16, +$0.57, +0.09%
The great Apple is going down…
hahahahahaa – hilarious.
What a shit new iPhone boys.
Who you selling it to? All the fans who already got milked 700 bucks and a 3 year term.
Oh iPods they look like Sony. Sue Apple Sony hahahaha WHat happened to rounded corners boys
Is this a dream? Apple stealing design cues from Nokia, Sony etc… Jony Ives is leaving Apple and this is his legacy? Nicely done Apple Industrial Design Group.
Exactly. Well said. Apple can’t design any more simpler.
You wil need to sell that 17 million dollar home and move back to England, Ives.
The iPadMini really should have been the new iTouch.
Plus, why not give the fcuk’n A6 to the new iTouch also.
Uneventful Apple… prepare to do poorly this year.
Hurray, down – doomed – uneventful.
• 2:26PM EDT: AAPL $665.00, -$4.41, -0.67%
Cook recapping… hahahaha BOOMed !!!!!!
Hell is that it? Shit better be AND one more thing.

grrrrrrr you APPLE why why why how can it be – waaaaaaaa
Apple closes +9.20 for the day. Trolls should wait longer before calling a trend.
I’ll be constantly checking this while I’m in class
Apple is Doomed…. Doomed I say… Its true, NO ANTI-GRAVITY OR TELEPORTATION this phone….
Doomed I say…..
Oh well, maybe next year. 🙁
lol
Apple fails to excite… booooooooo
What happened – the innovators are now lacking innovation – eh boys
hey, lets place Siri button right where Android places its’ voice command. Customers will not see this as being confused – we will call it making clarity when we copy.
hey… yeah Android notifications works wonderful Steve, can we also copy that… sure lets try
he, maybe customers do want multi-tasking – but better we not drain our battery or Google will sue use for coping them.
oh damn, now we won the rights to rounded corners every iPhone will look this way fro years to come – shit
Ivys, can we make the iPhone 6 even more taller for 2014 – cool thats a good idea – yah – sweet
And make it fold too once it reaches 12 inches or no one can put it in their pockets. Wowowo innovation. Hi five team.
The Nano looks shit too.
hahaha Ivy’s fails as a designer.
iTouch looks great, but it should have been the 7″.
Bad move Apple. hahahahah watch what happens with all this junk on the selves and no one buying it.
Is anyone offering live video ?
Not gonna happen. Beats me why. Ask Apple.
Tim Cook ain’t no showboat like SJ.
Yes Tim Cook is the Ben Stein of CEO product announcements (“Bueller, Bueller…”) and we hope he spreads the wealth (I would LOVE to see Johnny Ives out there) but the true show are the products. Steve Jobs was an added attraction whose style heightened the anticipation but his kind will never be seen again. We were lucky to have had him at all and I am still thrilled to have lived in a time with him around to give us these unforgettable presentations & keynotes – the finest entertainment all year! God Bless Steve Jobs and his enduring memorable charm.
Steve was the Man. No-one else can ever come close.
I hear that Vince, of ShamWow fame (“Call now! Because we can’t to this all day!”) is available if Apple needs to pump up the presentation a bit.
Why do these old men walk around with pressed shirts out of their jeans? They look like idiots with their dress shoes! Cook should look professional and not like a nerdy chump. SJ pulled it off AFTER he came back!
I’ve been saying they need to stop doing the SJ impersonation. It doesn’t look right. It’s like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons pretending to be Steve Jobs.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This crew is giving Apple “Old Man Smell.” The company is starting to scare little girls.
I trust nether of you have been to Cupertino, the folks look like this AND worse. Replace the $2000 shirts with bad Hawaiian shirts and flip flops and you get the idea.
I think the idea is only bozos dress up in a suit and thing this makes them professional. I happen to agree, I’ve know many a well dressed idiot.
Cook is Cooked.
Someone show Tim to the door.
Yeah they used to go out of their way to TRY to do live streaming in the days when it was harder to do so and now when they can easily they don’t. Perhaps the service providers asked them not to because of the huge hit they will take now that Apple is so much more popular.
They haven’t done that for as long as I can remember.
Too many factors go into it. I’m sure Apple could pump the video out live and in HD, but who knows what will happen on the receiving end.
Cell phone providers would be overloaded, people won’t have the latest version of QuickTime, not everyone has a fast enough connection to see the products, or listen to the audio clearly.
People would then be uploading low res choppy screen recordings all over the net, including the buffering parts.
Or, Apple can just put a single, perfectly functional video up shortly afterwards.
Apple usually posts their video after the event.
the iCloud server cant take the live streaming BUT if they call Google who knows how to data farm far better, well than maybe
Akamai served Apple well for years and you haven’t seen a server farm until you’ve been to North Carolina.
You’re a jealous hater Haysoose. You’re a weak-kneed little girl who dropped in to shit herself because you got nothing to contain your putrid venom.
You go right ahead and feign stupidity. Pretend Apple delivered nothing today. Claim it’s all derivative and none of it is innovative if you like, but after tomorrow’s headlines you’ll look like dick with ears.
You aren’t a part of the Apple fan club, so you suck my cock haysoose.
Aint but one time zone that matters: EST.
+1 ; )
+2
Really? There are still people living east of the Mississippi?
How will you ever endure the remaining weeks of EDT? The torment must be unreal. /snark
+1
(+7 GMT)
How will you ever endure the remaining weeks of EDT? The torment must be unbearable.
And where are all electronics designed? Where is Cupertino?
There is only one time zone that matters and it isn’t EST.
Harsh… Can we get along.
West Soooide!
um… I mean mountain.
THE time zone, of course, is PT. Center of the (creative) universe.
Agreed.
Actually, Korea came up with that time zone first..
1
Or copied it you mean. 10am in Cupertino is now 10am in Seoul (but its so dark outside Leedongsung!!)
Pacific time. 3 hours behind; 20 years ahead.
You are correct sir! There’s a reason why everybody wants to move to our time zone. If I lived back east I’d want to get out too. Cold, dirty, noisy, smelly and just full of people who are full of themselves.
Grew up in NYC, live in LA, love them both, but you are only telling half the story.
New York
“Cold, dirty, noisy, smelly and just full of people who are full of themselves”
Los Angeles
“Hot, dirty, noisy, smelly and just full of people who are full of themselves”
Portland, OR:
Cold, wet, noisy, smelly and just full of people who are full of themselves…and tattoos…and piercings. They think Portland is a world class city, like San Francisco and London, when it’s really just Fresno with bad weather.
Burbank. Not L.A.. A whole different world. Media capital of the world. Got to be where the work is. Los Angeles isn’t perfect that’s for certain. But it beats the hell out of New York City.
The Sharks!
The Jets!
Hawaii time – 6 hours behind, but we don’t care.
The proper reference is GMT. You’re 14 hours behind during standard time, while the Pacific time zone is 8 hours behind, and the Eastern zone is 5 hours behind. Using the Eastern time zone as a reference point just gives New Yorkers even more reason to believe that the world revolves around New York and that the edge of the world is defined by the Appalachians.
Actually, we’re 11 hours behind. Also we only have standard time, no daylight savings.
THANK YOU MDN for the great list! You have saved me hours of investigative work. (-_^)
Just ask Siri
Sure, when she works. She sure takes a lot of time off. And she seems a bit confused. Let’s hope that that’s one thing that they can improve on today. It’s been a bit of a disappointment. And yes, I know it’s a beta.
PREPARE – the immediate reaction by the majority of commenters will be massive disappointment. It will be loudly stated that nothing really new was announced. There will be calls, even at MDN, for changes in the executive team. There will be hand wringing that none of the presenters do what Steve Jobs did at these events.
Then, people will start buying the new products in large numbers ignoring the Internet pundits.
They will of course complain that the screen is not wider and that it still looks like an iPhone.
Then it’ll switch to the “Apple didn’t make enough of them!” shipping delay frenzy.
Yes, that pattern is not only yawningly familiar but as regular as the equinoxes only with less precession.
Or, it could go the other way.
Apple could exude complete confidence, uncheck enthusiasm, and really clever products and the world goes completely nuts over the talent appearing on stage.
This is the cream of the technological priesthood. Scott Forestall will kill. Today you’ll see a man in his element. He is the ghost of steve jobs.
GMT 1 rules 🙂
The Middle East is about to explode and people are nattering endlessly about a cell phone?
well maybe your president will use the new iPhone with larger screen to ‘see the larger, more accurate panorama and get a clue’ and develop an appropriate posture and reaction to all these ongoing issues
Our president is still using a Blackberry,
That should tell you the kind of president we have!
Geeeeee wizzzzz! The Middle East is about to explode!? Maybe we should send them a few shiploads of iPhone 5, so they can iPhone5 themselves to death. Bludgeon, knife and strangle each other with iPhone 5s. Put truckloads of them together, and make them explode in one of our Embassies. Hum… How many iPhones do we need to send them for that? Food for thought! Lemme write to Tim Cook and make a suggestion to donate them!
That was last year, keep up 🙂
Really. I had breakfast this morning, dressed and got to work. I watched the news and am aware of the problems in the world, which sadly I can do little about directly other than vote and perhaps donate to appropriate charities.
I also checked out MDN for a little light-hearted diversion.
Should I have stayed in bed and done nothing but fret about all the problems in the world (which are real and important and need to be solved)?
And, besides that, this is a forum for Mac news. If you don’t want to read about Mac news, may I respectfully suggest that you go elsewhere?
+1
The Middle East should explode.
No, they should IMPLODE. I don’t want that mess spread around.
The middle east has been a constantly exploding area for thousands of years. It will never stop.
Frankly, I’m sick of hearing about the middle east. It’ll always be a powder keg. Religious and cultural hatred will continue. Countries do stupid things. People will die needlessly. This’ll continue for decades to come.
I have close family members vacationing there (talk about bad timing), so it’s not like I have zero personal stake in the area. But I can’t do anything effective about it. Neither can probably 95% of MDN readers. So it’s not only pointless to worry excessively about it, it’s extra-pointless to do nothing but worry ONLY about it and not focus on the lighter side of life.
More like 99.9999999999999999999999999% of us can’t to A THING about it. The guy spooking us with the “new” Middle East about-to-explode story should have his Internet privileges terminated for LIFE!
I can remember 60 years ago, sitting and watching Warner Bros. cartoons which always portrayed Middle-Easterners as sword wielding, bloodthirsty zealots out to kill all foreigners and “infidels”. Nothing has changed except the sword as a primary weapon.
” The Middle East is about to explode and people are nattering endlessly about a cell phone?”
And yet, you came here to natter on about it too.
Pot, meet kettle. This site is dedicated to Mac news – if you want to discuss world politics – go elsewhere, you nattering nabob.
The eastern world, it is explodin’
Violence flarin’, bullets loading’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin’
But you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction
– Barry Maguire 1965
Hope they ace it. [Fingers crossed]
It used to be a joke to say that the comments about the announcements are already written.
Nowadays it’s just the plain truth.
Therefore I hope the next iPhone is called “iPhone L” or so and has no relation to those “leaks”.
Middle East should explode and then we’ll make it Las Vegas II.
Exactly let them blow it all up and then we can come in and crassly exploit it once the refuse has been blown away – the American Way!
Perhaps a business strategy, but it’s not an American value.
Hawaii time ftw.( I’m on vacation)
The header for the notes says “Live notes from Apple CEO Tim Cook’s WWDC 2012 keynote address in reverse chronological order:”
I’m pretty sure this isn’t WWDC.
Well spotted Doug,
your complimentary donut will ship in the mail in the mail tomorrow
I just asked Siri: “what are you doing at ten o’clock this morning?”
She answered: “I’m learning some new tricks.”
Awesome!
As always, Jacqui Cheng will be covering for Ars.

We really need a new iTunes. The whole system feels bolted together, like Legos. Each part is polished up nicely, like an old car outfitted with the latest technology.
It looks nice from a distance, but when you get up close, there are obvious flaws in the seams.
This is iTunes. The cost center that skyrocketed right out of the marketplace to become its own market competing with everything else and today could be a dream come true if Forestall delivers a brand new system for merchandising cool.
iTunes’s metamorphosis could be the everlasting takeaway from today’s event.
Looking really good so far.
We put sapphires in the iPhone! ROFL. Android OEMs would never do that!
Pssst, Lordthree–your ignorance is showing.
Three heads and none work right. On a good day, one head will say something profoundly eloquent but then the other two go off on a Turette-induced flow of expletives that would make a sailor cringe, so there’s just no telling with these religious whack jobs.
i am watching the updates and the iphone 5 looks great, and i am enjoying the fact that the andriod fans are suffering atm
Link to their “suffering”, or is it wishful thinking? I don’t think they’re capable of suffering.
This gadget does not even come close to an S3, X One, or Most new Sony’s let alone the upcoming Windows Phones!
This is where the journey from Apple to Apple sauce begins.!
Puh.
whoa… am I reading that pricing right?
looks like they either made a huge concession to carriers or they are going for monster margin.
Yes, it’s totally surprising that the new iPhones are the exact same price as the previous iPhones.
lol… apologies & thanks… memory failing with age.
Apples presentation is so much better then the microsoft’s SNOOZEFEST
Any word about whether they are using nano SIMs ?
-iTunes is “dramatically simplified”
that’s like music to my ears, lol. can’t wait!!!
