They have a fairly consistent pattern of announcing the events 2 weeks prior. If they run the event mid October they will announce it at the start of October.

Not sure what those who are underwhelmed are looking for. I’ll be ordering mine to upgrade my iPhone 4 (I skip generations) on Friday when they open up the pre-orders.

They were expecting (or at least hoping for) something that wasn’t already leaked ahead of time.
Which is sort of liking reading a leaked script for a movie before it hits theatres, then going to it and complaining that there weren’t any plot twists and that you saw everything coming.
As was mentioned in the keynote, they significantly updated every aspect of the phone. It’s faster/more powerful, thinner, lighter, bigger/better screen, better camera, new/better software, etc… if that’s not enough, I don’t know what would have been, and I suspect they don’t either.
It’s also not far from buying a walkthrough guide for a video game. Totally spoils the fun.

Just, my nephew and I were playing a game together, it was a LucasArts game called The Dig, I think. My brother-in-law worked for them back then and got us free games. Anyway he sent us a book, a guide to The Dig. The bummer was that the very first time my nephew and I got stumped by the game, and we turned to the guide, the game’s sense of adventure seemed to disappear—it was to easy, too tempting, to turn to the book. We never finished the game.
Funny how that works…my brother once had a voracious appetite for experience and knowledge, but after he converted to Pentecostalism, he had the Bible, especially the Book of Revelations, which had the answers, and a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. It seems he no longer needed a questing spirit, or science, or a sense of adventure, after that.
Looks like a nice upgrade to my wife and daughter’s iPhone 4 models. The bigger screen is a welcome change, although it’s not quite big enough for my tastes. The faster processor and increased memory should also be a big plus over the iPhone 4. Nothing really revolutionary, but all-in-all a nice improvement. The new connector may be a pain to use with my speaker dock and my car interface. Hopefully the adaptor will allow things to still fit properly — we’ll see.

Nice touch Jean. Yeah, if he’s a government worker he is probably already retired with free medical and an outrageous pension at 50. On our nickel. It’s why all of our communities have gone broke. Both of my for 4S’s are 64 GB. I have things that I just don’t trust to the cloud. So I opted for more storage capacity. iCloud is okay until it isn’t. Then it’s too late.
From what I have seen from the images, I can’t help feeling a tad disappointed. Hopefully, seeing iPhone 5 up close will change my first impression. 16:9 TV ratio doesn’t work for me on the phones and tablets.

I’m one of that ton that doesn’t have one yet. The reason is no cell coverage at my house. Sigh. But then I do get visits by deer, wild turkey, and an occasional bear, so it’s a trade… If I could get a signal, there’d be no droids allowed.

I’ve always purchased a new iPhone on Day 1. I’ve got plenty of family to hand-me-down to. Only thing I’m disappointed in is the lack of 96GB or 128GB of storage in the top-end.
Nothing surprising but a good phone and I’ll be getting it.

So many disappointed … I just don’t get it … There is a difference between innovation (flip-phone to iPhone) and iteration (3G,3GS,4,4S…) We are not going to have a surprise like we did in 2007 … That was a new invention …
Honestly I here lots of complaints but very few who can name a crazy new feature that is missing … Besides the whole giant Droid screen.
What can’t these phones do? I can’t think of much besides NFC which requires more collaboration than technology.
The only thing I could come up with was inductive charging.
The ones that got me rolling my eyes were demands for (1) a kit to turn your iPhone into a Taser, and (2) a slot to fire spring-loaded Ninja throwing stars.

iPhone 5: great attention to detail in the form factor, better camera, pano, faster processor, thinner, lighter, better quality display and powered by IOS 6. This will send the stock price into the next strata. Now if only Siri will cooperate and start acting like an adult. 😉
I’m thinking part of the secrecy problem could be that they are trying to phase out Samesong and are trying a bunch of new suppliers. They need to bring the hammer down hard on leakers to keep the excitement level up. Does make it a bit anticlimactic. Nano was a nice surprise though.
With all of the free wifi locations, including the one I already have at home, why not just get a new iPod touch and use Facetime and Skype?
Yeah, it’s no more inconvenient than finding a pay phone 20 years ago.
I find it more convenient to fire up my cellular data than to interogate staff members about their buisness’s wifi password.
I can’t wait to get my hands on 3 of them. They made some great improvements (contrary to all the whining). All that remains to be seen is whether att will allow an early upgrade for all of us Day 1 Purchasers. They always have before but this is less than the typical one year refresh.
Let’s see how long it’s gonna take before Samsung starts copying Lightning.
I may need to stop reading rumors so that I can enjoy a keynote once in a while. This was the phone I was hoping for when the iPhone 4S was introduced. When my contract is up on my 4S I’ll be snapping up the iPhone that comes after this new one.
The only downside is that I will have to find new holster and case when the time comes. Very happy with this parity update.
