Apple expected to reveal all new, built-from-the-ground-up iTunes 11 today

“A search result on Apple.com has revealed that the company will announce the iPhone 5 and new versions of the iPod touch and iPod nano today, and now we can confirm that a new version of the iTunes software will also be announced. The new version of iTunes is expected to be number 11,” Dan Seifert reports for The Verge.

Seth Weintraub reports for 9to5Mac, “From high-level AppleCare employees, currently training for iTunes 11, we’ve heard the new digital player has been re-designed from the ground up and is much sleeker and faster.”

    1. It had better not be — my mom’s wanting a new iPhone 5 but her Mac won’t run ML, so she’s screwed if iPhone 5 requires the latest iTunes version. Apple’s done that in the past — I remember at least one iPhone I bought requiring me to upgrade my OS before I could upgrade iTunes which was required by the new phone. Annoying but okay if the OS supports the hardware, but not okay if she has to buy a whole new computer just to sync her phone!

        1. iCloud, I have heard of it, just not from it for more than 24hrs – Apple needs to fix iCloud mail. Doubt this would have been allowed to go on this long under Steve’s watch. 🙁

        2. iCloud mail has been down today for “some users,” which unfortunately includes me and apparently peterblood71. Current iCloud status page says, “Mail may be slow or unavailable. When Mail is available, users may experience delays with incoming messages. Normal service will be restored ASAP.” This has been the status all morning today.

        3. this only affects 1.1% of the people, according to the apple web site, using an apple account, but i haven’t been able to get mail thru my .mac account or sync some other things for over a day. so much for icloud.

    1. Although it is strange to download movies from something called iTunes, that name is way too valuable to be messed with.

People are used to it. It’s a household name.

iPhone is another example. There’s a hell of a lot more going on than just a phone.

        1. Wrong, they are ALL records; doesn’t matter if you’re talking about vinyl LPs, compact discs, cassettes, digital, etc… ALL of them are records. And if it’s a collection of songs, it’s still an album; format doesn’t matter.

      1. Yeah, iTunes media store sounds ok… But still, even the word “media” could still be confused with “news”.

Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke! Seems it’ll be inception style, like it already kind of is.

A store within a store. Just clarified and cleaned up.

  1. I hope Apple makes importing and syncing smarter so that I don’t end up with 2, 3, or 4 versions of the same songs. The “Find Duplicates” works fine, but it requires you to look through each duplicate and choose which one to delete. Not having the problem in the first place would be nice.

  2. I hope they fix syncing backup issues which have precious few options and inconvenience more customers than protect against the bad guys often erasing everything (like recently when my granddaughter forgot her Pass Code and then you have to Restore and take a lot of time rebuild an entire iPod Touch that wasn’t backed up – not everything works the way Apple would like in how people actually use their Macs). How many of you are afraid of losing stuff in iTunes and distrust it or have multiple Macs and suddenly you have iPod devices that are Mac specific and you forget which device goes to what Mac. Utter nonsense!

  3. From the ReadMe:

  4. So what happened to iTunes 11, it never happened, that’s what it is.

Now at work I have a Windows 64bit and I updated no problem, and in the past I could click a link on the iTunes d/l page to get the Mac iTunes d/l (faster at work than home) but it wouldn’t let me. So I get home and its a f-in 127MB d/l that is some bloated app it just keeps growing with no real useful features.

Time for something lighter, faster and better Apple.
