“An epic patent battle involving the world’s two largest technology companies and some of the most popular gadgets on the market now rests with nine jurors in California,” David Goldman reports for CNNMoney.
“A verdict could come any time, but given the case’s complexity, few expect a decision before the middle of next wee,” Goldman reports. “No matter how the jury decides, the fight won’t be over. The companies are virtually guaranteed to appeal the rulings they lost.”
Goldman reports, “Still, it’s possible to suss out a few of the most likely outcomes and their consequences. Here are three ways it could go down.”
In the full article Goldman looks at the ramifications if:
• Apple wins outright
• Samsung wins outright
• A mixed verdict

No kidding.

Investigative reporting at its best!
There will be no outcome.
Whatever result will be, one party or another will appeal.
Good detective work there Lou
Yeah thanks Captain Obvious!
Shocking analysis. Stop the presses.
Dave left out the fourth possibility that a massive asteroid, undetected until the last hour, smashing into the earth, destroying all living creatures (including the jury), and leaving the final outcome unresolved forever and ever.
Like that! :))
But the answer is 42
No such luck. The case will be resumed in the afterlife. Listening to the lawyers drone on into eternity will give new meaning to eternal damnation.
Talk about state the bloody obvious!!
3 possible outcomes. Apple wins, Samsung wins or a mixed verdict.
Slow news day then MDN??
I think the tech writers are all just waitin’ around for the verdict.
This guy’s a real brain surgeon to come up with these three possible outcomes.
I wonder what analogy a brain surgeon uses?
Wow! Amazing! Must be psychic!
If it comes in “the middle of next wee” somebody’s gonna get wet!
This all depends on how long it takes you to wee
Wow! Amazing reporting. Thanks for the news flash. This must be one of the jobs Obama created. This reporter is an oxygen thief!
And I thought this thread was safe enough that no asshole would make at least one anti-Obama comment.
Colour me wrong.
Why did MDN repost this? Nothing else to do today?
I don’t think you’re being totally fair to the author.
Sure, the three possible outcomes are obvious, but the author also speculates what would be the consequences of each outcome. Interesting at least for me to read.
Granted I want Apple to win, especially with Samsung making fun and all the crap they are doing, but I would imagine a mixed verdict.
Hey, he forgot the 4th option. Nuclear war tomorrow and nobody wins! 🙁
Yes, If I flip a coin, four outcomes are possible
* Head
* Tails
* Stand on the edge
* Hit the next person’s head as my flip was awful
Go figure!
Did anyone even read the original article?
He doesn’t just say there are three possible outcomes, he describes each one in detail. This isn’t a breaking news article, it’s a recap for those who don’t already know everything there is to know. There’s a place for that.
