Teachers aren’t underpaid, they work nine months of the year, from 9am to 4pm max, are off for every holiday plus fall break, winter break and St. Bureaucrats Day, have an incredible insurance and retirement plan that a working person could only dream of putting in their 50 hours a week. F the underpaid teachers bullshit. And F the NEA.

Teachers don’t work nine months out of the year. When students aren’t in school, they’re busy taking classes themselves, getting recertified, and getting everything set for the new year. Cutting funding to education means many teachers now have to spend their own money to stock up the classroom with needed supplies. And the insurance thing is an absolute myth. My wife had some of the worst insurance we had ever had back when she was teaching, so we stayed on my health plan instead, which was far cheaper and gave far better benefits.
Teachers also don’t just work fifty hours a week. They’re in two hours before students arrive and often stay three or four hours after the school day ends setting up for the next day, going to meetings, and doing lesson plans. And that doesn’t include the stacks of paperwork they often bring home to grade before finally going to bed.
