Amazon sends out Apple-esque mystery media invite for September 6

“ sent out media invites on Thursday for anevent on Sept. 6 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California,” Benjamin Pimentel reports for MarketWatch.

“No other details were disclosed,” Pimentel reports. ” But the invitation quickly sparked speculation that the online retailer AMZN -0.05% is gearing up for the launch of a new Kindle Fire tablet. ‘Why September 6?’ said BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis. ‘I’ll give you a hint – Microsoft and Nokia are doing their event on September 5. Everybody’s trying to get in front of Apple.'”

Pimentel reports, “Apple AAPL +0.11% is widely expected to take the wraps off a new iPhone 5. “And maybe an iPad mini,” Gillis added, referring to speculation that the company may also introduce a smaller version of its highly-successful iPad tablet. ‘Wouldn’t you want to show your tablet before Apple rolled out their mini?’ he said.”

      1. Not sure how the term Troll came to fruition but Apple disciples sure use it a lot! Read some of the stuff that is posted on here and most of it is fit for folks who need help. The likes of “apple Rules the World” really?
Sure this is an Apple Cult Love Fest website, but there are a lot and I mean a lot of Apple users like me who use the product as part of their daily lives along with other great products and believe that Apple is part of an eco system that benefits all of us as they along with several other companies compete for our dollars and that is healthy for all of us.

Download Ubuntu on any PC and voila you have OSX. I prefer the shinny fit and finnish that Apple provides via OSX but Ubuntu is pretty cool. Does this mean that I Pooh Pooh on OSX? Absolutely not, but the point remains that Ubuntu is a great Linux based OS option and Windows is no different. Sure Apple Boys and Girls get all hot and bothered when Apple does well but it comes off the rails when it becomes so offside that it borders infatuation for a for profit company.

So, Gordo call me what you will as all I am in an avid fan of Apple as I am fan of Bose, Acer, Samsung, Hyundai, Tag Heuer etc… but to a point. Get my drift Gordo!

  1. I suspect that it’s also a major announcement about their long-rumored video streaming service. They quietly rolled out the Amazon Video app for the iPad about a month ago, and have slowly seeded the app onto gaming consoles and Blu-ray players.

Right now, Amazon Prime is basically prepaid free shipping with video streaming thrown in. The interface sucks, the search functionality is horrid, and the non-PPV video selections are nowhere near what Netflix has. But, Amazon Prime costs less than $7/month, and it would not surprise me if Amazon has been getting their ducks in line.

They’ve already been seeding the app onto tablets and set-top boxes. So, now if they have expanded content lined up and developed a new platform for the video content, this media event could be the big rollout for a new video streaming service to take on Netflix.

    1. Not sure where all the fine folks who comment on here live, but from what we know about the global economy at this moment in time, it might be tough sailing for a lot of toys and gadgets companies to continue on with the never ending new products releases due to alarming trend of consumers living off their credit cards. I have a feeling that 2013 could prove to be quite a year for all the wrong reasons.

  2. As various Mac pundits have pointed out, Apple is unlikely to announce an iPad mini at the same time it premieres the next iPhone.

When (if) Apple announces an iPad mini, it is not likely to do until it makes the annual (so far) iPad upgrade announcement… sometime late winter/early spring in 2013. By which time, anything that Goog, MS, or anyone else may announce in the not-too-distant future will be old news. Many people will probably hold off buying anything until they see what new thing Apple has offer.
