In Apple v. Samsung, alchemy of damages takes the stage

“Between the hotshot designers and brainy engineers Apple Inc. questioned for three weeks in the company’s bitterly fought patent battle against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, a marketing expert from MIT took Apple’s lawyers all of three minutes,” Dan Levine reports for Reuters.

“But the testimony from MIT Professor John Hauser cuts to a central dilemma in the smartphone patent wars,” Levine reports. “What is a single nifty feature worth? Hauser’s answer: exactly $39 per phone for a device that recognizes a second finger on the touchscreen.”

Levine reports, “If such features are deemed to be as valuable as Hauser suggests, a verdict in Apple favor’s might represent more than just a big payout in damages. It could also prompt the judge to award Apple a much bigger prize: a sales ban on Samsung mobile products.”

  1. damn human stupidity.

society wastes so much time/money/taxdollars in courts.
    judges are silly.
corporations are allowed to manipulate everything to their advantage. bribe government.

gov. is too lazy & rushes judgements.
everyone gets bribed, all are corrupt.
    democracy or not.

the fact is that everyone copies Apple.
    it’s so obvious. it’s blatant.
    every user knows it.
only the law turns a blind eye.
    come on!
    it’s so silly.
    the whole justice system stinks.
we americans call it free democracy, yet we’re the only version of democracy which depends on interest groups or lobbies. it simply means bribes. corruption. let’s cut the bull.
i.e. pharma industry sponsors the FDA labs!
    duh!
same with oil industry. auto industry. banking etc.

Judge Koh might screw up Patenting forever. There will be no more point in copywriting anything thereafter if Apple loses against Samsung. It will be a snowball or dominos’s effect. So why bother with the us gov patent office?! our current gov. is self-destructing.

Apple has the right to protect itself.
Apple is the only co. we can be proud of internationally, that’s always in the black, defies gravity, is recession-proof.
why kill it?! it did nothing illegal. the rest of the industry does, yet Apple gets punished?!

if the usa got big on innovation, kill Apple & we have nothing.
our biggest claim to making it big after Apple and in last decade is FB!! FB is hot air, nothing tangible, unproven business, flat!

Apple is the only firm that works its but off and that cares more for users than profits.

we still dare to say Apple avoids taxes in usa when they employ more than most within usa + pay deserving employees abroad + + gives millions of people & varied industries life support + give Made in USA the only good name + Apple proves American Ingenuity still works + Apple enables the world to love America as they otherwise hate us + Apple is the only firm that modernizes & democratizes the masses + the only one that thinks differently + humanizes technology or society + cuts the b.s. + + +

…are we that dumb that we wish to self-destruct?!

if competitors wish to compete, let them invent their own product category. they had over a decade to prove themselves, yet all failed against Apple.

    enough bullshit.

those who support open source or copying just because Apple stuff reaches ubiquity or standardization, are just lazy or cheap idiots. if it weren’t for Apple nothing would change. let’s be more grateful. Apple stuff is not more expensive in short of long term, after or before counting the cost per anum incl. support costs, so let’s cut the lies.

anyway, if Apple loses against Samsung.
Goodness help us with the plagiarist effect!
all the trademarked American Ingenuity Advantage will be fucked for good.
but our gov. justice system is too blind to see that?
how stupid can we be. how stupid?!
it’s no wonder we invent enemies & wars then, to make our money!
but let’s stop wasting our children’s lives for the sake of pseudo democracy!

      1. you do not get the point.

the usa polices the world around, controls it, pretending to know or understand Democracy & Freedom.
it’s the U.S. version of Democracy that is marketed worldwide as the best, the most just etc. when the U.S. is a police state & more watched with Big Bro than anyone.

        1. If you don’t like it leave Rolf.
See how long you enjoy China or Russia or Korea.

The US practices capitalism in the market place.
Democracy and freedom(s) is a practice for the people and the justice system.

        2. typical if ys americans, always taking it petsonally.

where is yr freedom of expression?

why ate we afraid of who we are, to always send people off & shun them as under witch hunt, shame on you.

ironically, it’s those who question the validity of our constitution who keep it in check! like apple think different ad states: those who do not follow the status quo blindly, are more patriotic

we’re the most jingoist of nations, muslim fanatics are not the only extremists.

and why the example of extremists, russia, china? the EU, esp. germany is a much milder & more efficient or true democracy & capitalist republic.

my only point was our justice system is suck & if judge koh makes apple lose against samhasnotsung it will annihilate the point of american ingenuity as well as trademarks will no longer exist & all will copy

  2. A ban would set an example for others.

I don’t really know what should happen with patents. Regardless of how anyone may feel about the system, these patents were granted, and the law should be upheld.

      1. Agree ……. And Apple should pay …. Ah pay for their little essential patents ……. Whatever little monies they are due ……

And SamDung / SamScum and Company should have their look alikes banned and pay triple damages for their blatant copy cat work ……

  3. well, typical apple fanboy posts here. pathetic. from now, don’t use any Samsung products ever. how long will you resist not to buy or use it? I will see it. it is easy not to use or buy apple because I didn’t buy any stupid apple since 2008. I don’t feel any inconvenience. in Korea, iphone users are very minor. most people use Korean brand phones like samsung, LG. plus, apple didn’t open itunes store entirely. only app store. that’s why iphone or ipad is pretty much useless. the phone based on android can easily get access google play. you can buy whatever you want. Apple will fall very faster than what MS did. I guarantee it. as a matter of fact, there is no longer Steve Jobs. without him, company is not Apple anymore.

    1. “well, typical apple fanboy posts here.”

^ Cue in the blatant astroturfer.

“pathetic. from now, don’t use any Samsung products ever.”

      Sounds good.

“how long will you resist not to buy or use it?”

Not buy or use Samsung crap? No probs. I don’t promote thieves.

“I will see it. it is easy not to use or buy apple because I didn’t buy any stupid apple since 2008. I don’t feel any inconvenience.”

You don’t PERCEIVE any inconvenience. There’s a difference.

“in Korea, iphone users are very minor. most people use Korean brand phones like samsung, LG.”

      Their loss.

“plus, apple didn’t open itunes store entirely. only app store. that’s why iphone or ipad is pretty much useless. the phone based on android can easily get access google play. you can buy whatever you want.”

      Apple’s loss (if true).

“Apple will fall very faster than what MS did. I guarantee it. as a matter of fact, there is no longer Steve Jobs. without him, company is not Apple anymore.”

This is why we need to see results in favor for Apple. Hearing this edward dick make such comments is ridiculous. Without Samsung being able to copycat everything it sees (via protection in courts for copyright holders such as Apple), “company is not” Samsung “anymore”.

    2. Why bother visiting this website?………You must be mad because you can’t affort to buy an iPhone or an iPad. Samsuck is a copycat. Put your self in Apple’s shoes, if you work so hard for 4 years to develop something unique, and the next thing you know some copycat company rips your products and only spends 3 month doing what you did in 4 years, how would you feel? what would you do? Not fear for Apple. Thats why I hope Samsuck gets a huge fine plus the ban of their products.

  4. seems to me the population of apple users is getting larger by the day and I as one of them have decided that I will not purchase another Samsung product again. If all apple users made that choice, it would start to affect Samsung. So when I look at TVs and printers and cameras and appliances, etc, etc, I can tell you that I will choose something else even if it means paying more. small price to pay to send a message to a company that finds it easier to copy than innovate.

  5. To me it seems population of androids getting bigger… I just recently dumped my Ipad and Iphone for a galaxy note.
    I like it.
I work in a design industry, and it is quite normal too be inspired by one thing and you go on by creating something similar and then evolve it. I believe that was how Apple designers worked. (Unless ofcourse I can’t create something new to compete or inspire others, ofcourse I will fight the hardest to save my one last creation).
