Apple Inc. investor and U.S. VP candidate Paul Ryan an expert stock picker?

“Newly chosen vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is already well-known for trying to push the U.S. government to cut its way to prosperity. Perhaps he should share some of his stock picks with Uncle Sam in order to boost revenue as well,” Maureen Farrell reports for CNN Money.

“Ryan appears to be a savvy investor. The majority of the mostly large-cap stocks he owned in 2011 are on a tear in 2012,” Farrell reports. “According to Ryan’s 2011 financial disclosure statements released by The Center for Responsive Politics, he owns a diversified group of large cap stocks that are solidly beating the market.”

Farrell reports, “In the mix: Tech leaders Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Priceline (PCLN) and Citrix (CTXS) are all up at least 20% this year… Ryan’s financial disclosure statements don’t reveal how many shares he holds of each stock or the breakdown between stocks and bonds and other investments. So it’s impossible to estimate just how much his individual stakes are worth currently… Ryan also clearly has a penchant for consumer companies. He owns Starbucks (SBUX), Procter & Gamble (PG), Estee Lauder (EL), Ralph Lauren (RL), Visa (V) and Mastercard (MA). The fitness freak also holds Nike (NKE).”

    1. … he owned this portfolio last month, and the month before that, and the month before THAT. If it wasn’t “Apple News” then, why is it Apple News now?
Come on, MDN, this is the guy who wants to toss grandmas from their wheelchairs (cut Medicare) and steal the money I invested for my retirement (cut Social Security). As for the younger folk, he wants to eliminate Health Care.
I know he claims to be a Roman Catholic, but the Nuns-on-the-Bus ( nunsonthebus.com ) agree with me that none of these positions are in agreement with the teachings of Christ.

        1. bankrupt?… Hmmm? Ask San Bernardino, Stockton, and Mammoth Lakes, CA what it means…

USA now has more debt, a 16 Trillion deficit, borrowing 40 cents of every dollar from China? Obama himself said of deficits during Bush years…

        2. Splinters in Her Crotch

A woman from Los Angeles who was a tree hugger, a liberal Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland near Colville , WA . There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her. In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch.
In considerable pain, she hurried to a local ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her.
She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, “What took you so long?”
He smiled and then told her, “Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a “recreational area” so close to a waste treatment facility. I’m sorry, but due to Obama Care they turned me down.”

        4. The country is bankrupt? So cutting healthcare for seniors and Medicaid for the poor while giving more huge tax cuts to the wealthy and increasing the military budget sounds like the perfect solution.

        5. read and educate yourself!! He is not and will touch Medicare for those who are on it or close to being on it. Making sure it will be their when the kids of today are going to need it!!

        6. IRENA SENDLER

Look at this woman – Let us never forget!

The prize doesn’t always go to the most deserving.

          Irena Sendler
          Died 12 May 2008 (aged 98)
          Warsaw, Poland

Irena Sendler’s heroic efforts saved 2,500 Jewish children during the German occupation of Poland in World War II.

As early as 1939, when the Germans invaded Poland, Irena began aiding Jews. She and her helpers created over 3,000 false documents to help Jewish families, prior to joining the organized Żegota resistance and the children’s division. Helping Jews was very risky—in German-occupied Poland, all household members risked death if they were found to be hiding Jews, a more severe punishment than in other occupied European countries.
In August 1943, Żegota (the Council to Aid Jews) nominated her (by her cover name Jolanta) to head its children’s section. As an employee of the Social Welfare Department, she had a special permit to enter the Warsaw Ghetto to check for signs of typhus, something the Nazis feared would spread beyond the Ghetto. During these visits, she wore a Star of David as a sign of solidarity with the Jewish people and so as not to call attention to herself.

Jewish children in the Warsaw Ghetto
She cooperated with others in Warsaw’s Municipal Social Services department, and the RGO (Central Welfare Council), a Polish relief organization that was tolerated under German supervision. She and her co-workers organized the smuggling of Jewish children out of the Ghetto. Under the pretext of conducting inspections of sanitary conditions during a typhus outbreak, Sendler and her co-workers visited the Ghetto and smuggled out babies and small children in ambulances and trams, sometimes disguising them as packages. She also used the old courthouse at the edge of the
Warsaw Ghetto (still standing) as one of the main routes for smuggling out children.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children/infants.
She was finally caught, and the Nazi’s broke both her legs, her arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the children that she smuggled out and kept those names in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived the holocaust and reunited the family.
Most of the parents had been gassed. Those children she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted.

In the year 2007, Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
          She was not selected.

President Obama won in 2009 for his work as a community organizer for ACORN and for the image that was created by the Press Corps’ version of him,
          and
Al Gore won also — for a slide show on Global Warming.

In MEMORIAM – 63 YEARS LATER

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.

In memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated!
Now, more than ever, with Iran, and others, claiming that the HOLOCAUST is ‘a myth’.
The world hasn’t just become wicked… it’s always been wicked.
It’s imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.

        7. Oh please. The reason they are doing that is they are worried about seniors voting against them.Anyone should be able to see through that hypocrisy. If its ok for the future seniors why isn’t it ok for todays? Educate myself? Don’t make me laugh!

        8. Fact is True, Ryan wants to cut out SSI and Medicare/Medicaid for the elderly and disabled, It doesn’t matter how it’s painted it’s a big problem, and the folks that had paid into SSI for all thoes years will have nothing to live on.

So much for compassion and taking care of our own.

Another Fact, being a Catholic myself, Ryan is Nuts.

It’s very unfortunate that Mitt made this poor pick, now at least for myself Mitt has been put on a shelf and he will not receive my vote.

        9. Truth hurts,
Everything you’ve said is nonsense. Seniors on or near SSI will not be effected. But if changes aren’t made the whole system, perhaps the US economy, will fail, then everyone including the seniors now on SSI or Medicaid will be effected. We must change course to avoid the cliff.

Correction you did say one true thing when you implied you are nuts.

        10. … iPhone”? Or iPad? Or Android device? the reason I ask is the abrupt and abbreviated excuse for English used in your message. Of course, you might also be a Tea Bagger and not realize the language has rules, and it has them for good reason. To avoid confusion. But … you are obviously confused.
You think something I wrote lacks truth.
Yet you offered no substantive proof.
Then you said “Country is financially bankrupt why not educate yourself on his ideas.” … yeah, those were your exact words, none were clipped … as if his ideas might help the situation. The NoPublicans have been blocking Obama’s attempts to improve the economy since Day One. No surprise his attempts came up short. And Ryan’s “ideas” devolve to a) cut the taxes on the rich and b) increase the taxes on the middle class. If you believe this is intended to help the country, the USA, you are just the idiot he is courting. If you believe this is intended to help YOU, then you are either rich – which I doubt, unless you inherited a fortune – or you are deluded into thinking your $1-an-acre-beachfront-property in Florida is about to come in big.
His platform includes a) cutting Social Security, b) cutting Medicare, c) cutting Health Care, cutting the tax rate for the richest, d) raising the tax rate for the middle class, e) cutting education … did I miss any of the things his touted Catholic Church thinks he’s wrong about? Don’t think so.
Yes, the economy is in a mess. We need to put more money in the hands of people who will spend it on Real Product, not just financial instruments. We need to boost the money spent on infrastructure – roads, bridges, the way the richest get their products to market – so we can put people to work so they can buy food and clothes for their families. THUS boosting the economy in a way the rich don’t care to.
Where am I wrong? In detail, please. In High School English, please.

        1. You’re pretty confident for someone who’s getting trounced in the polls. And now that Romney has the Ryan budget tied around his neck you can kiss Florida,Iowa and Pennsylvania goodbye. This election is going to be a landslide for Obama.

        2. Your correct, they are running from the sinking ship that is Mitt/Paul.

It’s really a shame, being a catholic myself as Ryan, I am appalled by his far extreme position as most people are.

Obama has this election already, and it’s got allot of folks upset.
thing is, I have no party affiliation, allot of people now follow this same belief, and picking the correct person for the Job is what must be done, or as they say ” the lesser of two evils” and picking thoes that won’t make this country worse then what it is comes to be paroumount reguardless of anything else and Ryan & Romney’s stance will hurt more then help.

        3. Obama only wins if people are able to vote for him. So far the voter suppression effort looks pretty pervasive. Don’t expect too much turnout in Florida, with their new ID laws and purges. Don’t expect too much in Ohio, because they are limiting the polling place hours in Democratic-leaning districts to regular business hours, so anyone with a job will have a harder time voting. Republican victories are usually stolen. They have no vision, no strategy and no plan. But they have very effective tactics.

        4. quivering commie is completely demented. You need to proof by valid ID to vote PERIOD you FLAMING AHOLE.

YOU COMMIES WANT ILLEGAL ALIENS AND DEAD PEOPLE VOTING TO STEAL THE ELECTION. YOU WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN, LEGAL OR NOT.

ROMNEY WILL WIN BECAUSE HE IS THE LIGHTYEARS BETTER CANDIDATE FOR THE US.

          UP YOURS!

        5. Yes, he scares many. He will scare off almost all independents and even many conservatives who are not so far to the right. He was a brilliant choice for the VP candidate.

        6. He scares you and the rest of you anti-American-LibTard-Drones because you’re all afraid he’ll put an end to the theft of other people’s money given to you idiots in the form of EBT. SCREW YOU!

        7. Your frustration is showing. You’re going to losing it in about 60 days . I’ve got my microwave popcorn all ready to go. I’m going to enjoy the show.

        8. You are aware that Paul Ryan, a rich kid, paid for college with Social Security Survivors benefits, which he now wants to end for people who actually need it. He pretty much likes other peoples money when he can get it.

      1. The only reason the “nuns on the bus” got any publicity at all was that the Pope publicly chastised them for publicly flaunting the teachings of the bishops, who are the authentic teachers in the Catholic Church. If the “nuns on the bus” agree with you about something Catholic, chances are that you’re both wrong.

        1. I like the nuns. They actually work directly with the flock and better understand their daily lives. If you are asking me to choose between the nuns and the “authentic teachers,” then I choose the nuns. Being wrong in your eyes does not bother me in the least.

      2. “this is the guy who wants to …. steal the money I invested for my retirement (cut Social Security)”

You are apparently not aware of the fact that the US Supreme Court ruled decades ago that Social Security, Medicare, etc., are not contracts with the american people, and that any, or all of these can be stopped by the federal government anytime they choose, and there is nothing the american people can do or say about it.

      3. Paul Ryan is a Congressman. As such, isn’t he required to have his investment assets in a blind trust in order to avoid a conflict of interest? If so, then he isn’t picking the stocks and the MDN headline is BS. If not, then the rules for our Congressional representatives should be changed.

      4. > steal the money I invested for my retirement (cut Social Security)

Get rid of Social Security. I will gladly GIVE UP any hope of receiving Social Security if I don’t have to keep paying into the mandated Ponzi scheme. (I have worked around half the usual time one has before collecting.)

BTW, I’m not voting for them.

  1. I’m glad he was spending so much time researching the stock market and not doing his day job. Or maybe his investor did all the choosing for him. Dumb story MDN

  2. Maybe we should start having a discussion about splitting the United States off from The Corporate States of America. We’ll be over here electing officials who are interested in the People’s Issues of Education, Health Care etc. Everyone currently in DC can continue to govern a country of The Companies, by The Companies and for The Companies.

    1. I couldn’t agree more.
The Capitalist States of America vs. The Socialist States of America
I think we all know which one will prevail.

“The trouble with socialism is that eventually, you run out of other peoples’ money. ”
      Maggie Thatcher

      You Libs haven’t a clue…

        1. No, what they teach is that the earth is 4-5 thousand years old and that Adam & Eve rode Dinosaurs on their way to Chick-fil-a listening to Glen Beckrock.

      1. Exactly. Tom, the problem with your notion is that you see one existing without the other when in reality, they’re inextricably linked.

You can’t have government-funded education and health care without the government taxing the productivity of the people. Companies are just large organizations of people. Commerce needs healthy, educated workers.

Stop making corporate America the bad guy… They (we) pay for all the shit you want your beloved government to provide.

You can’t/won’t have all the good things we have today without both business and government working together. the corporate-hating left needs to get over that fact just as much as do the government-hating right-wingers.

      2. You Republitards wouldn’t know socialism if it hit you on your bald-faced, ever-lying, bible-thumping, under-educated, lilly-white butts.

Romney-Ryan are the problem, not the solution.

      1. If anyone sends MDN an article in which Joe Biden is claimed to be an expert stock picker, or an expert at anything, that mentions Apple, surely MDN would publish it.

Unfortunately for Dems, Biden is a certified retard.

Hey, maybe there will be MacBooks at the Special Olympics or something and they’ll send Joe out to hand out medals or something, so you idiotic Lib statists have some “hope,” at least.

        1. The point is they shouldn’t have a political because they are supposed to be a tech/Apple news site. Yet, over and over again they show their politics. This story was a BS story. Ryan as would most people in his position probably has a very good financial advisor/manager. This article was link bait. Period.

        2. Basta!

whenever an objective, thinking, nonpartisan person reads a phony MDN trademark or one of your illegitimate “certified” stamps, they know you’re just blowing out partisan BS from your double-wide derriere.

The question of our time is not:
          – “capitalism versus socialism” — for all industrialized economies of the world are MIXED economies, always have been, always will be.
          – “conservative versus liberal” — for there are times and situations where pragmatic and collaborative action is required.
          – “republican versus democrat” — for both parties are entirely corrupt and incapable of achieving progress that benefits the people of the nation sustainably for the long term. How can they when they have gerrymandered the system to serve only themselves and their masters, with impunity unseen since the spoils system of the robber baron & Tammany Hall days.
          – “fiscally responsible versus wasteful” — see above. Republican leaders of this century have a worse record on deficit spending & debt creation, but not by much. Neither party knows how to balance the checkbook, and that includes Paul Ryan, a lifetime politician with even less real-world experience than Obama, and who has never submitted a balanced budget, let alone a realistic budget that offers compromises necessary for support amongst his own party.

So, here we go again. Corrupt choice A versus Corrupt choice B. Let the mud fly, and let formerly Apple tech-centered blogs allow itself to become just another pit of partisan bickering.

    1. This is a CNN Money article that was sent to MDN by “MacDailyNews readers too numerous to mention individually.”

Back to your Lib/Prog delusions, ignoramuses.

  3. I live in his district. We are in a depression. His own home town has lost EVERY manufacturer to overseas competition.

His stock portfolio doesn’t matter to me.

His funding comes from super PACS. He is not unlike many politicians

  4. I can’t see a win for republicans or democrats saving the USA from disaster. If you think your team winning is going to make the USA a better place for you… well, then you are a fool. The republicans and the democrats put us in massive debt, and the sooner everyone acknowledges that fact, and moves on towards making this country great outside of profits- it will never work. At least I can take comfort in the fact that I have the self reliance and means to do my best no matter who is in power. Sad to say, many many voters on both sides can’t even begin to say the same.

  5. Agreed, Shinolashow. If the two parties actually worked together for the people, rather than for the parties (the bucks) we may make a better life for all in our country. Our founding fathers agreed that we, as a people needed a governing body, and our governing bodies seem to have lost track of the importance of these human lives in this country. Many of us have as well, deciding to restrict our beliefs to a party line, rather than to our families, friends, and communities. Here’s to hoping for, and working toward a more peaceful and caring society

  6. I’m surprised by the amount of vitriol on this “tech” blog. Between the national election and the Apple/Samsung trial, the bile ducts of posters are working overtime. Any chance we might actually get down and geeked over something amazing Apple is doing?
