On Wednesday, Pinterest announced open registration. Previously, the service was invitation-only.
Pinterest lets users organize and share things they find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, sow their favorite things, decorate their homes, organize their favorite recipes, etc. Users can browse pinboards created by other people and discover new things/get inspiration from people who share your interests.
If you haven’t joined Pinterest, you can sign up without waiting for an invite via Pinterest.com. In addition to using your Facebook or Twitter login, Pinterest is also opening registration so you can sign up with just your email address.
Once installed in your browser, the “Pin It” button lets you quickly grab an image from any website and add it to one of your pinboards.
With the “Pinterest for iPhone app” users can:
• Pin anything to their pinboards: memorable meals, places to visit, favorite movies, etc.
• Browse pins from people and pinboards you follow
• Repin, like and comment on your favorite pins
• Pin with your camera and add a location so other pinners can visit

my wife is addicted to pinterest. i see absolutely nothing that interests me.
If you were born with a c**k, then there is nothing in Pinterest for you.
Guess its something new for those who’ve tired of FB. Nobody cares what I ate, drank or who I slept with, so why bother.

Earlier this year, the Pinterest user base was 85% female. The attraction is largely the graphic emphasis, with many users sharing home decor, clothing, and recipes. The click-through rate to links is astoundingly high, so sellers are seeing great results from Pinterest.
I think the disconnect for techies is that it’s more about emotional connection than data and efficiency.
Guess I’m a girl then – Pinterest seems packed with good stuff, as is The Fancy.
Then again, I’m an arts-based designer, so visual anything is deeply stimulating.
Talking of which, the London Olympics have been especially good for the beach volleyball gals. Or if your prefs go the other way, they’re OK too.
