Mitt Romney to announce VP pick via iPhone app

“Need to be among the first to know who Mitt Romney’s running mate will be? There’s an app for that,” Felicia Sonmez reports for The Washington Post.

“The Romney campaign Tuesday announced the release of a new mobile application that will serve as the ‘first official distribution channel’ for the news of Romney’s vice presidential nominee,” Sonmez reports. “The release of the app [Mitt’s VP, free via Apple’s App Store], which is available for iPhone and Android, comes on the last day of the presumptive GOP nominee’s six-day foreign trip. Romney is expected to make a decision on his running mate sometime after his return to the United States and before the Republican National Convention, which kicks off in Tampa on Aug. 27.”

Sonmez reports, “‘The historic announcement is getting closer,’ Beth Myers, Romney’s senior adviser and main veep vetter, said in a statement. ‘Soon everyone will know who Mitt Romney selects as his Vice Presidential running mate. With this new app, users can be the first to know the second member of America’s Comeback Team.'”

      1. Speak and I shall hear! Already called out by name before I even made a comment…

Obama, like every President before him and every one after, made/will make commitments and promises that he/she is unable to completely fulfill for one reason or another. For instance, the shutting down Guantanamo promise was thwarted by the unwillingness of any state to house the prisoners for trial. In the case of the economy, I daresay that the situation was more complex and more dire than Obama initially understood. There are other factors, as well, such as the near-collapses of several economies in the Eurozone (a major trading partner) and continued high oil prices (a long term issue that will impact every future President until we get a clue and rapidly roll out solar, wind, and wave power or, even better achieve practical fusion power).

That said, I have no doubt that the Obama adminstration desires a stronger U.S. economy and is actively working on solutions to that end. Perhaps some other people ought to try cooperatively working with him to find a solution rather than obstructing and finger-pointing at every turn. The GOP behavior has been disgusting in that regard.

If you think that the ‘alternative candidate’ is going to magically improve the economy, if elected, then you are fooling yourself. There are too many factors driving the U.S. and world economies for a simple fix, and a great deal depends upon Congress.

If Romney does end up winning, somehow, then there will still be one big difference between you and me. I will be rooting for him to succeed (despite my doubts) because I care about this country much more than I care which party is in power. You and your party, on the other hand, would scorch and salt the American landscape just to limit Obama to one term.

        1. Obama Messiah had his chance and blew it, I just feel sorry for the next minority person that runs for president, he/she will have to overcome the stigma of the last minority president that was a joke and a failure.

        2. Suckage is in they eye of the beholder. I give them both an F-. The USA requires real leaders, not vacant talking heads who are great at marketing but devoid of content and action. I’d rather have Steven Hawking, stuck in a wheelchair, typing his words into a decrepit PC text-to-speech program than these bozoid carnival barkers. I seriously want third parties to rise in the USA and bury the old two party system of screwed from the left, screwed from the right.

        1. No it shows how RawMoney will lose. People, who look like America, who vote will decide. RawMoney was so inept he insulted the Conservative PM of the UK and went to Israel and praised their National Healthcare system that includes a buyer mandate and government cost controls.

        2. well, use that great “tested” intellect of yours and crunch these numbers, idiot

        3. botvinnik, you don’t have a friggin’ clue about data and trending, do you? First of all, Bush bought the low unemployment rate in the early 2000’s with massive tax cuts and two wars on borrowed money. That has all come back to haunt us. Second, American jobs were being lost at a rate of ~750,000 per month *before* Obama was inaugurated. Plot the data that you provided and you will see a straight line path to unemployment oblivion starting in 2007.

I already addressed your Afghanistan numbers in a previous post. You are truly not worth the effort. In fact, YANWTFTTR is the most that I plan to give to you in the future.

        4. @botvinnik: You disingenuous, propaganda flinging proto-ape. Let’s rip you to shreds:

          2008 (Bush) – 7.3
          2009 (Obama Messiah) – 9.9

Pure fiction. The DAY Obama entered office, what did he receive as a gift from the incompetent Bush League? The 2007 Recession and the 2008 Depression, as witnessed by an unemployment rate of 9.9%.

Therefore, what the REAL numbers represent is a very slow, gradual RECOVERY from the Bush League Era Depression.

So please do go frack off, you lying sack of bovine excrement with weewee on top. The world considers the deceitful nature of politics in the USA to be a blatant sign of our imminent demise. DumTards like you make that oh-so-clear right here in the USA. Take your lies and shove them back up your orifice.

Obama sucks genital spheres. But OMFG the horrors of humanity on the ReTardlican side of the dopey 1-dimensional political spectrum. You’d think they’d created a monopoly on psychopaths. No messiahs on the left or right.

∑ = We The People of the USA are so screwed.

          Enter the third parties…

[Come on politardics, rant away at those of us with a brain in our heads. We cynically laugh at your ignorance.] 😛

        5. Let’s discuss the source of the money he’s hiding offshore. Wait, I forgot “You people have all you need to know”

If experience robbing from the humble and keeping for himself is what you want, Mitt’s your guy. But I think you should ask why he destroyed all of the Massachusetts government hard drives when he left office. As well as the records from his tenure at the US Olympics.

        6. When Ann Rmoney talkes down her nose to the people of the US, she loses any possibility that I will participate in the selection of her beloved master as my master.

And, since they won’t share facts, or are too embarrassed to reveal them, speculation and fear of the unknown are all that’s left. And I fear Rmoney.

        7. I have cited only data publicly submitted by the government regarding military casualties in Afghanistan and the United States Unemployment Rates..there is no hypocrisy coming from the grave or any inappropriate “gall” in that. You simply will not accept the fact that the president you support is an utter failure.

    1. Jan 2008 (Bush) DOW at 12600, unemployment at 5.00%

Jan 2009 (Bush) Obama inherits DOW at 8000 and falling, unemployment at 7.9% and rising, a deficit at over 1 trillion dollars and 2 wars. DOW falls to 6600 by about mid 2009, unemployment rises to 9.9 in late 2009.

Today unemployment is 8.2% avg for the last 6 months and the DOW is nearing 13000. Most private sector jobs have returned but many public sector jobs have been lost thanks to republican governors and state legislatures gutting public workers so they don’t have to raise taxes and in order to give tax breaks to companies and the rich. SO the next time you’re involved in an accident and end up losing a limb because the fire rescue service took so long arriving because of cutbacks, think on the bright side, your taxes didn’t go up, but other local services did rise like tolls and the rich got an even larger share of the pie. Don’t forget to pray.

      1. Nice post, bjr001! There are lots of historical data from the Bush years that the far right would prefer to forget. In fact, they are avid rewriters of history, reinterpreting and twisting it in an attempt to support their assertions, no matter how farfetched.

  1. Would a president Romney use the same app to announce the next middle eastern countries he plans to invade? The suspense is killing me already. Deficits and debt will suddenly become irrelevant again when Republicans get them a white boy back in the White House and the Teabaggers return to their nursing homes.

    1. uh, R2:

The United States will not re-elect a Pepsi jingle for a second term.

        2. That’s nice that you did that by year. How about doing it by month and seeing that in 2008 unemployment spiked due to the financial crisis (are you blaming 2008 on Obama?). After Obama’s 1st full month in office, unemployment was at 8.2, exactly where it’s been since March (except 1 month of 8.1).

How about doing it relative to our trading partners and seeing how they’ve been dragging our economy?

        3. Do you breath through your mouth?

The unemployment rate was 4.7 when Bush took office, he doubled it. You think Capt. outsourcer is gonna do better?

Bet you think tax cuts will solve the deficit problem too?

        4. @ botvinnik:

get a life. you clearly have no real understanding of the “data” you trot out to proclaim Obama a failure. Moreover, you have no data to show that Romney would do anything different than either Bush (more military spending, more tax cuts for their friends, and a reaming up the a$$ for anyone else).

The real choice, botvinnik, is a third party candidate. But you can’t name one, can you? You have been so thoroughly played by the D & R propagandist machines that all you can do is play the mud-slinging game. You don’t know about any other ideas or accomplishments except the trite little sound bites that your mainstream party media outlets sell you. You, sir, need to educate yourself. Start talking ideas and solutions instead of rehashing the trash talk from your TV talking head. And here’s a hint: neither dems or repubs have a clue how to promote prosperity for all, they’re just in it for the money. If you give a damn about your country, listen to an independent or 3rd party.

        5. a president’s record and whether he will be re-elected are incumbent on two factors: peace and prosperity. Obama Messiah is a miserable failure on both accounts. As far as a solution, one step at a time… first: dump the Pepsi jingle like an ugly girlfriend.

        6. @botvinnik:

by your own measures, peace and prosperity, no US president in the last 50 years would get passing grades. Each one ran horrible deficits, except the do-nothing Clinton administration. Each one dallied in foreign affairs that had no real US security implication.

Obama, for whatever faults you want to attribute to him, has presided with a do-nothing Congress through bank implosions, the bankruptcies of several major industries, tornadoes, oil spills, foreign trading crises, a major drug war on the border, droughts, and continued mortgage industry mismanagement and resultant consumer debt crisis.

In spite of all that for which you blame him, he seems to have kept the USA on a surprisingly even keel with positive economic measures that, it should be pointed out, will never again equal the growth rates of the last several unsustainable bubbles – dotcoms and housing ATM-like borrowing should not be repeated.

Romney, on the other hand, has no foreign policy experience, has a stated budget plan that dig the federal debt dramatically deeper, had a pathetic economic record as MA governor, and offers a different domestic policy for every group he speaks to, depending apparently on which way the wind blows. How ironic that NRA members are deploying bumper stickers for a MA governor who signed anti-assault rifle legislation, or that libertarian-leaning conservatives are supporting a candidate who supported the blueprint for what they now deride as “Obamacare”. The hypocrisy is astounding.

That is why the mud slinging between the pathetic parties is so ridiculous, especially on a tech site. I can’t distinguish between the parties because they are both hollow shells void of empathy or national interest. They serve their funders, the corrupt puppets they are.

I intend to vote for a 3rd party candidate in the Teddy Roosevelt tradition. May the Bull Moose Party rise again.

        7. I won’t blame the 2008 financial crisis on Obama, but I WILL blame it on Clinton and the other libs who think that “it’s not fair that only people who earn enough money to OWN big houses to BUY big houses.” So let’s let every dead-beat who has proven that they are not worthy of responsibly borrowing and repaying money buy houses with no credit and no pay stubs. “In 2006 only 1 in 5 people ever made their 1st payment on stated income sub-prime loans.” I dare you to try to blame that one on Bush. And you can’t argue that the credit standards were loosened by Clinton. (Turns out he was pretty good at loosening a lot of things.)

        8. UAEUTE: Your post has been repeatedly been refuted in the past. Yet another lame effort at glomming onto right wing BS. Going back 18 years and then manufacturing a lie is not very original or effective.

        9. To which part are you referring when you call me a liar? It is absolutely irrefutable that Clinton’s pen stroke loosened credit standards in lending leading up to the current housing crash. Is the whole thing his fault? No, but it’s funny how the libs want to blame much of our economic problems on “corporate greed” but fail to consider all the people who wanted things they couldn’t afford and the laws that led to them being able to acquire those things. Obviously this isn’t ALL the fault of ANY one person or party. We all need to take more responsibility for the decisions we make and the ensuing consequences.

      1. OK, let’s look at shrubs little endeavor in iraq shall we:

        2003 (Shrub) – 580
        2004 (Shrub) – 906
        2005 (Shrub) – 897
        2006 (Shrub) – 873
        2007 (Shrub) – 961
        2008 (Shrub) – 322
        2009 (Obama) – 150
        2010 (Obama) – 60
        2011 (Obama) – 54
        2012 (Obama) – 1

        Data from icasualtiesDOTorg

        1. That is patently stupid, not completely unlike listing casualty stats before and after 1945.
Are you really that clueless or are you intentionally trying to mislead?

        2. To mislead is the Progs’ top strategy. If they proclaimed their actual statist intentions, like Obama does by mistake from time to time when he’s without his trusty teleprompter (Bitter clingers. Spread the wealth. “You didn’t build that.”) they’d never win an election. Misleading people is the Progs’ only chance.

      2. Lets add up the numbers and break them down:

        Shrub = 5588 dead souls
        Obama = 2329 dead souls

What point were you making? Obama seems like the lessor of two evils when we do the math now doesn’t he?

        1. Let’s just elect Mickey Mouse for the next President. Goofy as VP. Then the rest of the Disney crew into congress. I’m sure it couldn’t be any worse then how we have been doing for the past 40 years. And a whole lot better then what we have to look forward to in the upcoming election.

        2. Are you dense, that is the question?

Botvinnik listed Afghanistan numbers, I added Iraq then added them together, and specifically asked what his point was?

I am not misleading anything. I think I was more than Fair, Bush started these campaigns and IMO he owns all the numbers. Obummer is trying to draw down and wrap up these boondoggles.

I’ve been there. How many people do you know in the numbers, I know 6 of them.

        3. Casualties -per year- genius….

Wow you Obama supporters really go roaring through life with eyes wide shut, don’t you. But I guess that comes with the territory….

        4. Again, you have it all wrong. You conservatives sure are smart..

Botvinnik (GOP-Romney supporter) Listed partial numbers trying to Paint Obama in a poor light, I filled in the numbers and did the math for him as he is incapable of simple math.

I then pointed out to you that as the war starter Bush owns all the numbers in my opinion. I also enlightened you to the fact that I have been there done that and 6 friends of mine are represented in those numbers. The fact is, we got sent there to die on Bush’s watch while chickenhawks like you and botvinnick sat here squawking along to faux news.

So lets try this again: Do you have a point to make or are you going to just continue to make nonsense posts that say NOTHING other than you hold Obama supporters in contempt?

        5. Truth, thank you for your service to your country. I am sorry for the loss of your fellow soldiers.

botvinnik, you have shown your true colors, and they are ugly. Only the extremists in this forum could possibly see any value in your posts or viewpoint.

Truly YANWTFTTR. You no longer exist to me.

        6. Bush is the war starter?!
I got to call you on that Mr “truth”.
Osama was the war starter when his brainwashed minions killed 3000 innocent civilians. I had friends who were crippled in the Pentagon, damn straight we had to retaliate. God bless Bush for having the guts to do so, but that’s not starting a war that’s defending our country. There’s a difference you imbecile.
Mr Truth, you need to rename yourself Biased

      3. Yes, cleaning up someone else’s personal war mess can sometimes be a dirty job. But that is normal for Republican Presidents. Create a mess knowing you won’t be around to clean it up.

        1. Who escalated the Vietnam War? Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson.

Secret bombing of Cambodia and Laos. Killing of vast numbers of women and children. Shall I go on?

No party can claim hands clean of “war mess,” certainly not the Democrat Party. The U.S.’s messiest war remains forever stained all over their hands.

        2. Actually Richard Nixon ran on having a secret plan to end the war and then didn’t end it. The Vietnam War ended with Gerald Ford in office after Tricky Dick resigned in disgrace.

FYI- Nixon’s people also broke US laws and contacted the enemy- telling them to hold out of peace negotiations until after the 1968 election, because they wanted to use it as a campaign issue. Soldiers/Marines/Sailors and Airmen DIED because of the Nixon campaign’s treason.

        3. “Secret bombing of Cambodia and Laos. Killing of vast numbers of women and children. Shall I go on?”
That was Nixon- it triggered Kent State and was over 2 years after the 1968 election of Nixon.
          Nice try for the uninformed.

    2. Wow… so much vitriol, I thought you libs were accepting of alternate (ney, EVERY) view?
Not so much, eh? Well of course that would only be acceptance of views exact ally like you own, all others should be attacked, derided and then silenced (by any and all means required)
Ah thanks R2, your guiding philosophy is so much clearer now.

      1. The only free thought allowed is that which toes the Democrat party line. All other thoughts and ideas must be squashed via Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

Everything that goes on with this empty suit statist Obama comes straight out of the Alinsky playbook. It’s plain to see for all with even partially open eyes.

        1. How’s that cake? Enjoying it? Seems that if he’s really an empty suit you’d have nothing to fear or bitch about. Instead it’s the usual slams about libtards. You extremists kill me. No life experience, no independent or critical thinking ability, just party line vitriol. The same disproven trickle down theories as from the 80s as the middle class shrinks.

In other words no real answers except those which dehumanize and belittle anyone who doesn’t buy your crap. Pot and kettle. Sad really.

        2. Oh yes, because Republicans are so welcoming and inviting of differing viewpoints and alternative lifestyles. Please. There has never been a more close-minded, singular-purposes group of elitists throughout history (and yes, I say that with full view and memory of Fascism and the Nazi Party).

For *any* conservative to call anyone else out on their lack of acceptance of opposing ideas and viewpoints is just ludicrous.

But, I’ll give it to them. The Republicans are exactly the party our Founding Fathers had in mind as an ideal: “Freedom for all, as long as you’re a white, Anglo-Saxon Christian male!”

        3. He’s a graduate of the Rush Limbaugh school of free thought:

“If we say it over and over again, we will eventually believe it ourselves”

Rush studied the GOP school of thought:

“Whatever the truth, say the opposite and blame the problem on the other side”

      2. You are entitled to your own opinion- not facts. Facts are particular in that they are real or fake. The Conservabot Right likes to play very fast and loose with selectively edited snippets taken completely out of context.

  2. Using an iPhone is not going to help Romney. It doesn’t matter whom Romney selects as a VP and announces it via the iPhone or bullhorn, the message will be the same; lets take this country back to the 19th century where women and minorities knew their place and the government could be bought. Don’t forget your bible.

    1. And Book of Mormon via the angel MORONi.

Willard’s wife said ‘it’s our turn’ in reference to the Presidency. Funny thing, I don’t remember anything about that in American History or American Government at any level of school.

I do remember the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

  3. To accurately see where the U.S. presidential candidates stand you have to look at Likely Voters, not Registered Voters or any other sample.

The historically accurate Rasmussen poll does just that. As of today:
    Romney – 47%
    Obama – 44%

Obama has stayed between 43% and 45% for ten straight days. During that stretch, Romney’s support has been between 46% and 49% every day.

Just 14% believe that today’s children will be better off than their parents. That’s the lowest level of optimism ever measured in the U.S.A.

Approval ratings are everything in an election year. Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush all had approval ratings under 50%. All lost their re-election bids. Obama’s is stuck at 46%. max. Often, it is lower. Any more off-the-teleprompter gaffes (“You didn’t build that.”) and the Mistake of ’08 will fall even further. Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush all had an approval ratings above 50% throughout their successful re-election years.

No U.S. president has ever been reelected with an unemployment rate higher than 8.0% at the time of his second election. The U.S. unemployment rate will be higher than 8% on election day thanks to Obama’s failed big government, statist policies.

In addition, Republicans are significantly more energized to vote. That portends that the 4-9% “undecided” (morons, regardless of how they end up voting) will tend to break for Romney.

This race is over. Most of the media just won’t tell you that because they want to reap the huge political ad windfall first. If there’s no contest, there’s no need to run hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ads.

    iCal me.

Romney needs only to show up at the debates and ask, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” For the majority, the answer is “HELL, NO!”

You’d better get used to it now, Libs: “President Romney.”

BIG party at my house starts early in the evening on November 6th!

    1. And if the press wasn’t totally controlled by the left, people would find out why the world is in the worst global financial crisis today… and only people with monkey brains would vote for Obama again.

“At President Clinton’s direction, no fewer than 10 federal agencies issued a chilling ultimatum to banks and mortgage lenders to ease credit for lower-income minorities or face investigations for lending discrimination and suffer the related adverse publicity. They also were threatened with denial of access to the all-important secondary mortgage market and stiff fines, along with other penalties.

The threat was codified in a 20-page “Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending” and entered into the Federal Register on April 15, 1994, by the Interagency Task Force on Fair Lending. Clinton set up the little-known body to coordinate an unprecedented crackdown on alleged bank redlining.
The edict — completely overlooked by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and the mainstream media — was signed by then-HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, Attorney General Janet Reno, Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, along with the heads of six other financial regulatory agencies.

“The agencies will not tolerate lending discrimination in any form,” the document warned financial institutions.
So this is where it all started.  In 1994.  When the government pressured lenders to qualify the unqualified.  To put people into houses they couldn’t afford.  Or else.

      1. Funny thing happened though. Greed took over as stuff got good for the lenders. They started qualifying people based on bogus criteria knowing they would quickly sell the loans.

Two acquaintences (now out of work in the mortgage industry) repeatedly were told by higher ups to qualify borrowers for much larger loans than they could handle. These are big lenders not fly by night loan stores.

Same thing happened to my parents in the early 70s. They had the good sense to walk away. Most people don’t. And the banks have no incentive to be real as they made tons of money selling their junk loans to discount houses. Everybody lost.

But you go ahead and point the finger at on politician or party if that makes you feel better. Just because Clinton did this doesn’t mean the lenders had to get greedy. But they took the money and ran. If conservatives are such good business men and women then why does greed so often overtake good commen sense. but yeah. It’s all the libtards faults. Yup. You keep thinking that and the next time you need a bridge come to me. I’ve got one for sale.

      2. “And if the press wasn’t totally controlled by the left, people would find out why the world is in the worst global financial crisis today… and only people with monkey brains would vote for Obama again.”

Are you off of your meds?
1-NBC/U (owner of NBC, CNBC, MSNBC) is owned by COMCAST & GENERAL ELECTRIC. Both are heavily right wing and GE is America’s biggest defense contractor.
2- Disney (owner of ABC) is heavily right wing and always has been. Walt Disney was well known to be a Republican. The previous owners- Capital Cities- was a big Republican donor.
3- National Amusements (owner of BOTH CBS Corp and Viacom) is run like a private candy store by Sumner Redstone. He is as Republican as businessmen come.
4- Time-Warner (owner of CNN & HLN) gives more to the Republicans and has ever since it’s founding by Henry Luce.
5- NewsCrap (owner of FakeNewz Channel and Faux Bidness) is controlled by Rupert Murdoch.
6- Clear Channel (owned by Bain Capital- yes that Bain) is right wing to the max and has been from it’s founding. It is the largest owner/operator of stations in the US.
7-Cumulus Media- second largest radio operator in the US is and has always been right wing. It recently acquired Citadel- who also was heavily right wing.

The paranoid mantra of the right that media is liberally biased is pure bullshit.

    2. The convention role being given Bill Clinton is proof that President Obama is in deep trouble and he and his political handlers know it….

Add to that the Rasmussen survey in which voters by 62 percent to 30 said economic growth was more important to them than economic fairness. Fairness, of course, is a major theme of Mr. Obama and his party. With his attacks on Mitt Romney’s business record and his repeated and unsubtle appeals to elements of his party’s base, Mr. Obama is clearly shooting for a big Democratic turnout in November.

But Gallup reports that the number of Democrats who say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year is at 39 percent, down from 61 percent four years ago. 51 percent of Republicans, meanwhile, said they are more enthusiastic this year, that is up from 35 per cent in 2008.When you put all this together with the continuing bad news on the economy, you know why Mr. Obama is suddenly reaching out to Bill Clinton.

This is a distress call. – Brit Hume

      1. Too bad he isn’t booting Biden and Making Bill the VP.

Your conservatives heads would just explode!!

Maybe the reason Dems are not excited about voting is the road blocks you Rethuglicans are enacting everywhere to combat non existent voter fraud?

Quoting the Faux news propaganda editor in chief isn’t lending your quote any credibility BTW..He speaks to his audience, and clearly you gobbled it up..

    3. First 2010,
I believe Rasmussen’s likely voter poll is nation wide. Most states will always vote Dem or Rep. So the election hinges on the behavior of likely voters in the swing states.

Do you know if Rasmussen accounts for this? I’m concerned we are being lulled into a false sense of victory. Put me down for a keg at your party.

  4. You people make me sad the way you prey on your fellow citizens. Liberals and Conservatives alike, you are all guilty of the same mud slinging. You sit behind your keyboard with a sense of anonymity and trash your neighbors and the very people who work very hard every day to make your country a great place to live. I hope at the end of the day you can sit back and be happy that it’s actually people like you that are ruining our country.

Bunch of over privileged bitches, the lot of you.

        1. A+ for that one botvinnik. That’s right… “I’m” the idiot. LOL Thanks for your astute observation oh one who believes Tech web sites are the place to fight about politics because its the only place for free speech left.

I bet you are a really nice person. And likely a relatively smart person. Maybe you should work a little harder so that actually shows when you post on here.

      1. Socialism has never worked. Statism is a proven failure, too. We just finished knocking down most of the progs’ horrid, failed public housing (LBJ idiocy) and they want to create a new crop of subsistence-living guaranteed voters dependent upon the gov’t teat.

Obama just gutted Welfare Reform. He’s trying to recreate a sub-class of entitlement-addicted Dem voters. He’s enslaving his own people for his benefit and the benefit of others like him. That is evil and I will fight it.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Study: Obama Increased Welfare Spending 41%; Poverty Rate Unchanged from LBJ: More Than Half a Trillion Dollars Spent on Welfare – But Poverty Levels Unaffected

Since President Obama took office [in January 2009], federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent, more than $193 billion per year. Federal welfare spending in fiscal year 2011 totaled $668 billion, spread out over 126 programs, while the poverty rate that remains high at 15.1 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared a federal War on Poverty.

The study faults the way poverty programs are designed, saying that the increase in spending and largely unchanged poverty rate showed that the issue is not a matter of money, but a matter of what the programs aim to achieve.

“The vast majority of current programs are focused on making poverty more comfortable – giving poor people more food, better shelter, health care, and so forth – rather than giving people the tools that will help them escape poverty.”

Instead, the study recommends refocusing anti-poverty efforts on keeping people in school, discouraging out-of-wedlock births, and encouraging people to get a job – even if that job is a low-wage one.

“It would make sense therefore to shift our anti-poverty efforts from government programs that simply provide money or goods and services to those who are living in poverty to efforts to create the conditions and incentives that will make it easier for people to escape poverty.

Now, I care very much about really helping the poor, unlike some progs who seem to think that “programs” that accomplish nothing but keep the poor around forever are some sort of “solution.” Generation after generation. Guaranteed votes for their Democrat masters, of course. Some solution that is.

I keep waiting for the majority of U.S. African Americans to wake up. Slavery by another name (government dependency) is still slavery. WAKE UP!

The more people doing well on their own, the better.

I’d be very happy to put my taxes to work for real progress for a change, not just keeping the disadvantaged and their offspring treading water and checking the mailbox for the subsistence living check/foodstamps forever.

That’s right, I want hope and change and progress, but real hope and change and progress, not an empty campaign slogan devised for an empty suit spouting a tired ideology that’s a proven failure everywhere it’s been tried.

        1. I have. And I don’t disagree with a lot of what you say. Why don’t you try reading mine and understand that I don’t give a flying f*** about your ideology. For all the BS you post you sure do have a huge problem with reading comprehension.

        2. YOU are full of shit. And I’m certain this isn’t the first time you have been confused.

Hey look! A sandbox full of liberals for you to slap with your huge politicol cock! GO GET EM!!

        3. Okay so ‘you don’t give a flying f*** about ones ideology’, and you have no bones about letting this tech board know. So aren’t you just as guilty of ‘flooding a tech web site with your alphabet vomit’ as YOU sit behind your keyboard with a sense of anonymity and trash your neighbors and the very people who work very hard every day to make your country a great place to live. I hope at the end of the day you can sit back and be happy that it’s actually people like you that are ruining our country.

This must make you the biggest over privileged bitch, amongst us?!

        4. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day (That is, if he likes fish). Teach a man to fish and he’ll lay around on a pier drinking beer all day. Women just roll their eyes

  5. I’m a progressive. Here’s what you need to know. You are all incredibly stupid, have no sense of history or economics, believe that the tax code that favors a small percentage of rich white men (worldwide) is a good thing for all concerned. As a progressive, I’ve decided that you are all too dumb to have any say in the government and that we are going sow far as to taking everything over and kicking all of you out. Well, not everybody. Katy Perry stays.

    1. If you don’t like the tax loopholes, close them.

Don’t bitch and moan about companies and individuals employing the legal means provided to them to avoid taxation.

Steve Forbes was right and, sadly, way ahead of his time.

Flat tax with vouchers for those below a certain income line.

That is what would help this (and any) country a great deal, but it’s likely to never happen because an army of tax preparers, tax collectors, lawyers, and all of their staffers would no longer have jobs.

      1. You are such a POS..In one breath you will bitch and moan about people on welfare, imaginary socialism plots & birther nonsense. Yet when someone points out that our tax code is hosed and your candidate is a prime beneficiary of that problem, your response is to say “quit bitching it’s legal, if you don’t like it change it” Then proceed to say our tax code cannot be changed because it creates jobs.

You are a clown, your ideology is a lie, you are incapable of reasoned thought or critical thinking. You are like a pull string toy, always parroting the same tired lines. Do us all a favor and STFU.

In one small way you were right, Forbes wouldn’t have surrounded himself with ChickenHawks like Bush did, might have saved a lot of lives had he been your nominee..

  6. Even if his pick for Veep was Jesus H. Christ in a bikini, I couldn’t give less of a fuck. You think things are bad now, wait and see what happens to the country under this blithering, flip-flopping idiot. Won’t matter who his VP is…

  7. America’s Comeback Team

Stated by the party that drove the nation into our ongoing worldwide economic depression.

Oh, that’s intelligent. Let’s have some more of that. We can’t get enough of Corporate Oligarchy dunderheads and their puppets fracking the world to hell. Feed the rich, kill the poor. Let’s elect yet-another clueless dolt to the US Presidency. Yeah, that will solve our economic woes. (0_o)
