“iMore has heard that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21,” Rene Ritchie reports for iMore. “This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past.”
“The iPad mini will be announced at the same September 12 event, as will the new iPod nano,” Ritchie reports. “We haven’t heard a release date for the iPad mini yet, but it could be the same as the iPhone 5. It seems likely the new iPod touch will make an appearance on September 12 as well, though we haven’t heard any specific information about that yet either.”
Ritchie reports, “Unlike last year, when some 16 months separated the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, a September 21 schedule would put the iPhone 5 launch at just over 11 months after the iPhone 4S.”

Cannibalization I tell you. My bank account will be cannibalized.
Do you think this is why the stock rebounded from the 30 dollar sell off after earnings?
Anyone need a kidney…
i will take two.
More Apple goodies to lust over. Will it never end? (No.)
*Will it ever end?
Will the media ever stop calling it the iPhone 5?!?! The 4S IS the fifth iPhone! If the new one has a number, it’s more likely to be the iPhone 6… But maybe it’ll be the iPhone 4G or, simply, The New iPhone…. Calling it the iPhone 5 just shows how little the media understands Apple *sigh* /rant
I believe the first AppleTV was unveiled around September or October to start the FCC approval. Wouldn’t Apple not need to do it soon to be approved for Christmas? Those iPad mini devices will be great for remotes and gaming controllers for an AppleTV if they would open it to apps?
Apple have a deal with the FCC that the specs for their new devices do not get published prior to launch. The FCC can do it’s certification ahead of release but the details are not made public.
Apple cited that publication gave competitors advantages. This has happened since the 2nd or 3rd generation iPhone. The same can be applied to other devices that need approval.
Two new major products at the same time would explain Apple’s massive increase in capital spending recently. 50 million iPhones, 25 million iPads for the holiday quarter?
I wonder if iPhone 4S stays and drops to $99 or if 4S is replaced with new iPhone and rest of lineup remains.
New iPhone -$199
iPhone 4 – $99
IPhone 3GS – free
iPad Mini in September? I’m just not buying it…
If it’s released I’ll buy one.
Repeat after me; There is no iPad Mini.
It is a rumor.
There will be an ipad mini, but not in September. With all of the leaked iphone 5 parts and photos, the same would be the case for the mini.
Why do these folks keep calling it iPhone 5?
Oh please stop torturing me, here is my credit card Apple, just give me the iPhone 5, unlocked with 32GB. Any colour will do.
Because 5 comes after the previous marketing number and people like series because it is predictable and everyone will know what you are talking about with the least effort.
I would argue that they should market it as iPhone 6 because them people will think they’ve missed a whole generation and run out to buy it even though it will actually be the 6th version of the iPhone.
They could just as well call it the iPhone 4Gs, especially if it has the rumored shape that we have seen recently. But I think that would be a marketing mistake.
