“Since the presidential election kicked off in 2011, the president’s official campaign arm, Obama for America, has spent $353,000 on Apple products according to official spending reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. That’s enough to buy 1,780 new iPhones or 176 new MacBook Air laptops,” Joseph Walker reports for Dow Jones Newswires. “The Romney campaign has been far more conservative in its Apple Store shopping binges, spending 72% less than Obama’s staff has over the same period, about $99,000.”
Walker reports, “Smartphones have become all the rage since the 2008 election, but, so far, neither campaign has invested much in mobile advertising, says Paran Johar, chief marketing officer of Jumptap, a Cambridge, Mass.-based mobile ad selling network that placed mobile ads for the Romney campaign during the primaries.”

Google’s Android smartphone operating system has more users than the iPhone in the U.S., but people who live in Democratic-leaning states are far more likely to utilize iPhone apps than voters in Republican states, according to Localytics, a mobile analytics start-up.”
MacDailyNews Note: Localytics found that 70% of the top ten most active iPhone states were Democrat-leaning states. These tended to be coastal and more densely populated, or more urban. Conversely, states with the lowest iPhone usage are found in the less densely populated states in the middle of the country, and 70% of these least active iPhone states were Republican-leaning states.

The full quote isn’t much better, I have both read and heard the full quote in context. He can spin it all he wants, but his point is that businesses are dependent on the Federal government and collective efforts of many to be successful, which is very offensive, and very wrong.
You can be offended all that you want, twimoon1, but that does not change the truth. Businesses *do* leverage the products of government and the infrastructure developed from the collective efforts of U.S. citizens. Roads, bridges, dams, aerospace research that lead to modern aircraft, Earth observation satellites, air traffic control, GPS…the list goes on and on. You can spin it all you want, but you are spitting into the wind.
That does not mean that businesses just spontaneously arise out of this infrastructure. No one is discounting the effort and sacrifice needed to get a business going and to guide its growth. But these businesses also rely upon the foundation that was developed by the country working together and sharing resources.
The point of all of this is that both businesses and citizens utilize public infrastructure and have an obligation (as well as the selfish incentive) to maintain and improve that infrastructure. That takes resources, and that means taxes. Taxes are not evil, they are a necessary part of our society and those who seek to avoid paying their fair share while this country spirals towards bankruptcy are the true shirkers.
There is no doubt that we need to reduce spending and cut waste. We also need to raise sufficient tax revenue to cover our spending. We cannot depend on the self-serving fantasy that we can cut taxes to spur growth, with the resulting growth increasing taxable income to an extent that more than offsets the tax rate reduction. That only works when tax rates are high – above the optimum range that balances tax revenue and economic growth. And no Republican that I have ever heard has been able to define that optimum tax rate…all I hear is that lower is better. And that is true to the extent that we are collecting sufficient taxes to cover our spending over the long term. We are not doing that, and we have not done it for decades. Time to get a clue.

The fact is that Romney has made almost identical statements in the past. But it is necessary. Because the biggest enemy to our country is not communism or socialism or even greed and corruption. The biggest enemy is deception, deception by lies, disinformation, and “spin.”
The unvarnished truth is critical to the long term health of a democracy. It unmasks lies, reveals deception, and untwists attempts at disinformation and spin. People who are armed with the truth understand the risks of over-reliance on government, as well as the nature of mankind which is incentivized to success by a capitalist system but, also, can be warped to extremes of greed and corruption by unfettered access to such power.
The American representative democracy has survived quite a bit of corruption over the decades. I suspect that there has been far more corruption and graft than most of us realize. But it has limits – it cannot survive merely by wishful thinking. The universe is described in terms of science and math. It is time that people, and politicians in particular, once again begin respecting the scientists, educators, and scholars who have contributed so much to this country and to the world. The threat was codified in a 20-page “Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending” and entered into the Federal Register on April 15, 1994, by the Interagency Task Force on Fair Lending. Clinton set up the little-known body to coordinate an unprecedented crackdown on alleged bank redlining.
The edict — completely overlooked by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and the mainstream media — was signed by then-HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, Attorney General Janet Reno, Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, along with the heads of six other financial regulatory agencies.
“The agencies will not tolerate lending discrimination in any form,” the document warned financial institutions.

The checks and balances on the use of these cards are significant, and there is no way that this assertion could be true across the program (unless some very small percentage can be construed as “nearly half”).

HT, there is a difference between “corporations” and the “rich.” I don’t have anything against rich people, in general. I simply object to institutionalizing wealth via legislation, which is what Republicans have been pushing for the last decade. It smells a bit of the old system of nobility. The rich can be rich without impoverishing everyone else. And the irony of it is that impoverishing the masses will eventually devalue the wealth of the rich. Greed ends up killing itself. Unfortunately, it oftens devastates the rest of us, as well.
I just wish instead of altering each others words and taking them out of context, the candidates would actually talk about the issues and THEIR ideas on how to fix it. Let’s face it – this is really a one party system. Both sides are only interested in their own power and they keep the rest of us distracted from what is really going on by pitting us against one another in partisan politics. Meanwhile, they are getting away with things that would land you and I in jail (think insider trading).

Now open the second one side by side and check the demographics. Switch from Black to Hispanic, while noting their voting habits.
Next, switch to the poverty map (you may want to have three pages open to do this).
There is your answer. The ‘teat suckers’ in the red states are in the poverty areas, those with the highest Black and Hispanic populations and voted more Democratic that Republican.
So yes, the red states do, but it is the blue population (including poor whites) that does most of the sucking….

Call me names if you like, but I don’t think your maps support your argument at all. What I do know for a fact is that the county in California that gets most Federal financial aid per capita is also the one where the biggest majority of voters vote republican.
I’m not sure why you think I would call you names, or why you are posting to this thread three days later, but I clearly showed and explained what the maps are and how to compare them.
But once again, look at the voting blocks where they are blue, then compare them to the maps of low income districts. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.
I don’t doubt that you know of one Republican county that draws in more money than it puts out (especially if it has a large retirement population), but my point is much larger than one county, it covers pretty much all of the South.
Also know that the reason I did this was to goad CitizenX, who never misses a chance to diss Republicans (especially Conservatives) by throwing out mostly false but still widely held beliefs about us. His views on the right are so silly and backwards that I can even take them seriously enough to get upset, but still like to correct (although, looking at his locale, he had probably never had the opportunity to see how wrong he is….)

Apple tends to cover wealthy urban areas much more than rural areas that generally have less deposable income. Also, they are still using face to face communication more than urbanites that text across a table. Money has moved to the city centers now and probably has made the Democratic party the wealthiest party with the greatest disposable income. That could skew the sales a bit with rural culture difference and city urban spending on the latest fades. But all in all it is pretty much 50/50 these days.
Just a little statement to Obama. Never claim you ever accomplished one thing because our money pays government workers and funds all government spending. Even your fund rising, we pay for your transporatation and private plane to / back from these events. Plus, you are little more than a public servant and you are not smarter or even worked harder than any other public servant. A lot of blue collar people buy PC’s because they believe they can’t afford Macs. I always ask them “Well, what is the top amount you can spend?” and then I find them a nice Mac on Apple’s refurb site for a decent price. Then they tell me they love it and it runs far faster and more reliably than the last PC they had. And it ends up lasting them longer, and not having to pay someone or some service to clean it out saves money in the future.
