“Since Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook took over the company’s management, sources from supply chain players have revealed that Cook has adopted even stricter management over its supply chain than before, and in addition to conducting inspections more frequently, the time spent on the inspections is also a lot longer,” Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report for DigiTimes.
“The sources pointed out that Apple has been putting a lot of effort into managing costs and product quality for the past half year, and the company’s suppliers are all being heavily evaluated,” Lee and Tsai report. “The sources expect the strategy to become a challenge to suppliers’ production line management as well as a threshold for players wishing to enter Apple’s supply chain.”

I would think product quality from suppliers should be high.
That’s good news because I’ve had two (2) of the latest iPads replaced in four (4) days recently. The first replacement went bad after three days. At least Apple swapped them out with little or no hesitation.

I hear ya BLN. I’ve bought 2 iPhones, a iPad and a 13″ MBP so far this quarter and I’ve had absolutely no problems. Jean must have stepped into the deep end or is suffering a DNA loss.

I ALWAYS buy Applecare – and have ALWAYS had to use it. On iMacs, Powerbooks and now iPads. I never had a problem with iPhones though. I’m just lucky I guess. BLN, you must have the wrong info about me in your files.
Check your USB ports and hubs. Most often these kind of early device failure are caused by leaking voltage trough the USB ports, in particular trough faulty external USB hubs. It kills the logic board.

Well that’s a good tip. Just had the logic board on my 2 year MacBook Pro fail – thankfully under Applecare. Just unplugged my USB hub now.
