Apple: U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney becomes first politician to use iAd service

“Political advertising is about to become a lot more common on some iPhones and iPads,” Amy Schatz reports for The Wall Street Journal. “Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s campaign said it is using Apple Inc.’s iAd mobile advertising service on an ad drive for the iPhone, iTouch [sic] and iPad devices It is the first time a political candidate has used Apple’s iAd service, which started in 2010, an Apple spokesman said.”

“‘We think people will spend more time’ with the ads, said Zac Moffatt, the Romney campaign’s digital director, adding that the campaign plans to experiment with the ad campaign over the next few months before the Republican convention,” Schatz reports. “Data compiled by the Romney digital team showed that mobile users constituted a large portion of the visitors to the campaign’s website. Of those users, a majority were using Apple devices. A mobile phone is ‘the most personal device you carry. We felt like we wanted to connect with people where they spend their time,’ Mr. Moffatt said.”

Schatz reports, “Initially, the Romney ads will appear for iPhone or iPad users in the same states where the campaign is running TV ads. ‘We’re not looking to replace TV but to augment and amplify,’ Mr. Moffatt said. The ads are scheduled to begin running next week.”

    1. The Empty Suit was a failure from Day One.

Anybody who fell for his hopenchange messiah bullshit was a gullible fool. It was so obvious. You can’t elect someone with no practical experience to do a job and expect them to be able to do the job.

The way out of this current mess: Supply-side.

      ROMNEY 2012

      1. Yes, supply side. Because it worked so well the first time. The federal debt soared under Reagan with several years of double-digit increases, including 15% in 1983, 12.3% in 1985 and 13.9% in 1986, far exceeding the increases today. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt) Reagan had the advantage is starting out with a 30% total debt/GDP. Obama is the poor schmuck who is left to clean up fiscal irresponsibility from two Reagan, one Bush 41 and two Bush 43 terms. And yes, he failed miserably. He could have and should have adopted the Simpson-Bowles commission recommendations, but he didn’t have the political courage. And Romney’s proposal actually would increase the debt more than Obama’s last proposed budget (factcheck.org). Neither party is ready to face our fiscal reality. But thinking supply side is the answer is delusional.

        1. Reagan won the cold war. We haven’t had a true supply-sider since. Employing supply-side economics now, without having to spend the USSR into oblivion, would save the U.S.

        2. Obama and his ilk aren’t interested in saving the U.S.

They are only interested in revenge for perceived injustices.

They also want to wine and dine and live high on the hog on the taxpayers’ dime.

Obama will be GONE soon enough.

        3. I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR DESTINY WILL BE, BUT ONE THING I KNOW:
THE ONLY ONES AMONG YOU WHO WILL BE REALLY HAPPY
ARE THOSE WHO HAVE SOUGHT AND FOUND HOW TO SERVE.
          Albert Scheweitzer

I don’t think pissed really covers it!!!

Alan Simpson, Senator from Wyoming , Co-Chair of Obama’s deficit commission, calls senior citizens the Greediest Generation as he compared “Social Security” to a Milk Cow with 310 million teats.

Here’s a response in a letter from PATTY MYERS in Montana … I think she is
a little ticked off! She also tells it like it is!

“Hey Alan, let’s get a few things straight..

          1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole for FIFTY YEARS.

          2. I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS (since I was 15 years old. I am now 63).

3 My Social Security payments, and those of millions of other Americans, were safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for decades until you political pukes decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of
zero ambition losers in return for votes, thus bankrupting the system and turning Social Security into a Ponzi scheme that would have made Bernie Madoff proud..

          4. Recently, just like Lucy & Charlie Brown, you and your ilk pulled the proverbial football away from millions of American seniors nearing
retirement and moved the goalposts for full retirement from age 65 to age 67. NOW, you and your shill commission is proposing to move the goalposts YET AGAIN.

          5. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying into Medicare from Day One, and now you morons propose to change the rules of the game. Why? Because you idiots mismanaged other parts of the economy to such an extent that you need to steal money from Medicare to pay the bills.

          6. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying income taxes our entire lives, and now you propose to increase our taxes yet again. Why? Because you incompetent bastards spent our money so profligately that you just kept on spending even after you ran out of money. Now, you come to the American taxpayers and say you need more to pay off YOUR debt.

To add insult to injury, you label us “greedy” for calling “bullshit” on your incompetence. Well, Captain Bullshit, I have a few questions for YOU.

          1. How much money have you earned from the American taxpayers during your pathetic 50-year political career?

          2. At what age did you retire from your pathetic political career, and how much are you receiving in annual retirement benefits from the American
          taxpayers?

          3. How much do you pay for YOUR government provided health insurance?

          4. What cuts in YOUR retirement and healthcare benefits are you proposing in your disgusting deficit reduction proposal, or, as usual, have you exempted yourself and your political cronies?

It is you, Captain Bullshit, and your political co-conspirators called Congress who are the “greedy” ones. It is you and your fellow nutcases who have bankrupted America and stolen the American dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers. And for what? Votes. That’s right, sir. You and yours have bankrupted America for the sole purpose of advancing your pathetic political careers. You know it, we know it, and you know that we know it.

And you can take that to the bank, you miserable son of a bitch.

        4. Simpson is a Republican. He couldn’t have done wrong!

The condumbs will be disappointed if they assume they are as smart as Democrats. Their only hope is to be more crooked, via voter suppression schemes and outright intimidation, by showing up armed outside of polling places. Democrats should anticipate both.

        5. The condumbs are already gunning down elected Representatives. I predict they will show up at polling places with guns. Are you willing to predict they won’t?

        6. Of course the brain-dead-idiot, quivering-comrade, would get the gunning down of people backwards.

It is always liberals who gun down people and make threats.

          Liberals are Racists.

        7. And you forgot many other events (things) in the Reagan years

          1. Doubled the size of the economy
          2. Won the cold war (I was in the military and know what he did)
          3. Advanced our military to a Super Power (before had the Russians were ahead of us)
          4. Set the stage for develops we see today in just about every aspect of our lives (Star Wars, etc..)
          5. Was a TRUE leader .. unlike the moron we have now who could lead himself down a straight-line

        8. ‘ Obama is the poor schmuck who is left to clean up fiscal irresponsibility. ‘

No – Obama is the planted socialist put in place to bring the USA to its knees. He’s almost done it too. He must go in November.

        9. Jean, you’re a Brit. Why do you keep poking your nose where it doesn’t belong? Or does your nose resemble Neil Kinnock’s too much? Please don’t criticize when you have no means of affecting a change. Stick to Apple things and leave US politics alone.

      1. Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world’s largest economy, direct the world’s most powerful military, execute the world’s most consequential job?

Imagine a future historian examining Obama’s pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a “community organizer”; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote “present”); and finally an unaccomplished single term in United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions. He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as legislator.

And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama’s “spiritual mentor”; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama’s colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?

Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberaldom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass.

Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass — held to a lower standard — because of the color of his skin. Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) “non-threatening,” all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon — affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don’t care if these minority students fail; liberals aren’t around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin — that’s affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn’t racism, then nothing is. And that is what America did to Obama.

True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary. What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks?

In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama’s oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people — conservatives included — ought now to be deeply embarrassed. The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of clichés, and that’s when he has his teleprompter in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all. Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth — it’s all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years.

And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?

In short: our president is a small and small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job. When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such a man in the Oval Office.

But hey, at least we got to feel good about ourselves for a little while. And really, isn’t that all that matters these days?

    2. A landslide of manure- the laughingstock of the world, bin Laden laughing in his grave. Romney, and his bosses, the Koch Brothers, must be castrated by the voters once and for all. Obama 2012, and what’s more- Democrats in order to purge this mess of obstructionists who capitalize and the fearful and ignorant. When it comes right down to it, contrary to public belief- the landslide will belong to Obama. Or Good triumphs evil becomes the biggest lie since the beginning of time.

      1. I hate both sides. Obama has done almost everything the right wants and Romney’s budget would add another 8.8 trillion in debt in one term. All for a quick buck.

  1. Congratulations to ‘Superior Being’ and ‘The Obama Failure’ for being among the quickest to sign on to and support the “Best Government Money Can Buy.”

        1. 545 vs. 300,000,000 People
          -By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan …

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it… is up to you.
This might be funny if it weren’t so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:

          Tax his land,
          Tax his bed,
          Tax the table,
          At which he’s fed.

          Tax his tractor,
          Tax his mule,
          Teach him taxes
          Are the rule.

          Tax his work,
          Tax his pay,
          He works for
          peanuts anyway!

          Tax his cow,

          Tax his pants,
          Tax his coat.

          Tax his ties,
          Tax his shirt,
          Tax his work,
          Tax his dirt.

          Tax his tobacco,
          Tax his drink,
          Tax him if he
          Tries to think.

          Tax his cigars,
          Tax his beers,
          If he cries
          Tax his tears.

          Tax his car,
          Tax his gas,
          Find other ways
          To tax his ass.

          Tax all he has
          Then let him know
          That you won’t be done
          Till he has no dough.

          When he screams and hollers;
          Then tax him some more,
          Tax him till
          He’s good and sore.

          Then tax his coffin,
          Tax his grave,
          Tax the sod in
          Which he’s laid…

          Put these words
          Upon his tomb,
          ‘Taxes drove me
          to my doom…’

          When he’s gone,
          Do not relax,
          Its time to apply
          The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the heck happened? Can you spell ‘politicians?’

        2. I am NOT an Obamabot.
I did not vote for him in 2008 and will not be voting for him in 2012. He is a Republican in Democratic clothing- a DINO for sure.
America has 2 major right wing parties- the Democrats largely sit where the Republicans were during much of the late 20th Century and the Republicans are way out in crazy land.

I love it how in America everyone thinks you have to be either one or the other- or an Independent.

  2. Meanwhile the socialist pinko commies led by none other than the sitting president take out ads in Android land to exhort the freeloaders, hobos, welfare check dependants to get the noses to the trough before the state sponsored well dries up.

    1. The Economist, a conservative and intelligently written magazine, ended their analysis of Walker’s 7 pt win, funded by 7 times the money, in Wisconsin with the observation, “If this is indeed what democracy looks like, it is a worrying omen.” One can easily imagine what an intelligent observer would think about the political posts on MDN. “Worrying” wouldn’t begin to describe it.

      1. You lie.

Dems were not outspent 7 to 1 in Wisconsin in Governor Walker’s decisive win.

The spending story stems from a release by the liberal Center for Public Integrity, which took based its analysis on data from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and according to that data, when you combine the spending of the candidates and their supporting groups, the gap shrinks to 2-to-1.

Consider the total amounts spent on state senate recall elections, Supreme Court elections and so on in 2011-12, and the gap shrinks to roughly 1.5-to-1. These figures only account for sums legally required to be publicly reported (and assumes those sums are properly quantified). Rutgers University economist Leo Troy has estimated that actual union political spending is likely several times higher than generally reported.

        http://www.mackinac.org/3979

Dems didn’t lose because they got outspent. Dems lost because the electorate did not agree with them.

Since Governor Walker and GOP lawmakers ended mandatory union membership for government workers, public sector unions in Wisconsine have experienced a dramatic freefall in membership of well over half.

No longer forced to be in a union and have to pay dues that were funneled toward pro-union (Obama et al.) politicians, workers fled the unions.

Governor Walker and GOP lawmakers in Wisconsin freed the slaves.

Scott Walker has restored the balance between public employees and the taxpayer. This is just the beginning.

With much smaller unions and without union-confiscated dues backing their campaigns, often agains the individual union members’ vote, Liberals are finished.

        🙂

        1. Name calling aside, just curious to know exactly where F2T2 is in error? It is a fact that public-sector union membership dropped by half in Wisconsin. Union members, like all voters, have the right to vote for the candidate of their choice. Yet they have little say in where the money is spent and are funded by taxpayers, with NO say. Sure sounds unfair to me regardless of party affiliation.

      2. The ‘Economist’ is a limey rag. Every idea that has come out of England since Churchill has been tainted by the left wing. Even the conservatives in ‘Jolly Old’ are far to the left of American dems.

    2. WTF are you- Pat Buchanan? Limited vocabulary some dim bulbs have. Your mentor isn’t Reagan, it’s Archie Bunker! Try a new act, expand your vocabulary. Shirley, you can’t be serious- “socialist pinko commies?” You’re a bloody caricature of an extinct species. Funny you don’t know it. History will laugh at all of you- though we live in tragic times.

  3. I’m sure that Romney will be for it then against it Ina couple weeks. But no, seriously the best part here is that Apple takes a 30% cut and donates it to democratic causes.

Here’s to putting an etch-a-sceth into office. LOL @ roneybot losers!

    1. You mean like Obama who was FOR gay marriage in the 1990s, then AGAINST it as he ran for office, and now once again FOR it as he runs for reelection. I guess that’s what passes for “evolving” thinking in his camp.

If that’s too long a time frame for you, consider that one day in 2008 Obama declared his support for Jerusalem as Israel’s “united capital”, only to retreat from that statement the very NEXT DAY, insisting it should be a subject for negotiation.

  4. This whole money argument is a joke. President Obama outspent John McCain 3-1. But I guess it was ok then, right?

George Soros way out funds any money the Koch brothers spend, but I guess that’s OK as well.

The people in Wisconsin spoke their minds twice, and Scott Walker won both times.

In November, we will have a chance to vote. 40% will vote for Obama no matter what. 40% will vote for Romney no matter what. The last 20% will decide the election.

With spending out of control, no budget being passed, unemployment outrageously high and our national credit rating dropping, I can’t see how the president could be re-elected. However, he is running against the Republican party, so…..

        1. Rethugnicans cannot spell, but the mimic the words and framing of their fearless leader- Hillbilly Heroin Addict Rush Limpaugh.

        2. And yet, despite the link to a silly and meaningless cartoon, the fact remains:

“The Democrat party has reelected a U.S. president exactly one time in the last 6 decades.” – F10T12

        3. With all the wonderful Republican leadership you’d expect the country to be debt free, first in the world in health care and education. Wonder what’s wrong with excessive Republican presidencies?

  5. Let’s republicans print even more unworthy $ bank notes and pile national dept at such an amount that the letters U.S.A will sink into the lapse of memory! That’s all stupidity deserves!

  6. Its funny how the names like pinko, commie, liberal, etc. were never used by conservatives when there hands were out to accept under regulated bailouts for messes they created in the auto and finance industries.

Gummint money’s ok I guess when it goes to save the screw ups and greedy bastards in those industries. Remember the bonuses the execs got just after cashing their welfare checks? FN hypocrites…

  7. iLie. I wonder if Apple will allow ads that contain blatant lies that the Romney campaign has already been using. I hope any ad whether democrat or republican that contains lies or distorted facts will be removed immediately by apple. –like the ad that Romney has been running where Obama is quoted as saying “if we talk about the economy we’ll lose”. The true quote is “McCain said ‘if we talk a out the economy we’ll lose'”.

Cutting up quotes and doctoring the results shouldn’t be allowed by either side and my respect for Apple will decline if they allow either side to lie.

iTunes regularly filters iTunes apps, hopefully they will enforce truth in advertising in our politics. If that were the case, apple would be a hero in cleaning up the lies on both sides!

      1. Whether or not the economy would be better off with or without Obama’s policies is debatable. Whether or not Mitt Romney has been engaged in Blatant lies in his ads are a fact.
To me, truth in government matters more than anything else.

Our politicians must be held to a higher standard of truth, and then the American public should decide. I am not saying who is right or wrong, because I don’t trust either side, however I will say, that the most dishonest of reporting and politicians seems to be coming from the right. Mitt Romney has been engaged in blatant lying and even when he is called on on it he continues and does nothing to correct the record.

It seems that whether Obama is right or wrong is debatable, but at least he tells the truth about what he will do, and mostly means what he says.

Mitt Romney resorts to outright lies. Whether or not he would be good for the country is also debatable, but when somebody lies as much as he does, and has been caught as many times as he has, why should I trust him with the “big” things.

I don’t vote for proven outright liars. I’d rather Ron Paul, but since I don’t have that option, I’ll take Obama. At least he tells the truth, and we all know what he will do.

Romney has too many hidden agenda’s and lies too much.

        Just my two cents.

        1. Travayon Gang Banger as his son. Stirring up race tensions needlessly over this. Eric Holder, Harvard Beer Summit, ads for targeting blacks to vote for him and have “his back”, there are so many more. I”m not going to waste my time cutting and pasting any links for you you troll. If you have been following what’s been happening since the commie in chief was elected you wouldn’t need a link. Jack ASS!

The more the libSCUM keep the different races at each others throats the better it is for them to get re-elected and use that issue to pretend that they are the saviors when, in fact, they are the instigators.

  8. not to be an asshole but if this is site is an indication of what America is like and how Americans act and feel then America is dead already. you people are truly idiots.

there should be a Think Before You Click warning on stories like these.

    1. @ temprakneeoh:

finally, someone who is sane. The political parrots spouting off here are the reason that nothing can get done anymore in the USA. Until reasonable minds set aside their petty differences and work together, the USA will continue the downward spiral begun in the mid-1960’s takeover of Congress by outsourcing-minded corporate lobbyists, WELL BEFORE Obama and Reagan.
