“Microsoft will launch Office for iPad on Nov. 10, The Daily has learned,” Matt Hickey reports for The Daily.
“We’ve learned that the development team within Office Mobile finished its work on the project last month, and the efforts of the design group wrapped soon after,” Hickey reports. “The app is now in the hands of a usability team that appraises software that utilizes the Metro design language for “Metro compliance” and suggests changes as needed.”
Hickey reports, “When approved by the team, the app likely will go to Apple for app store approval, which could take a couple of weeks.”

Why does it have to go to the Metro team? It’s not going to be on Windows PHone but on iPhone. NO metro there.
I don;t need it anyway. I’ve got Pages and Numbers. More than enough.
To go anywhere, it really needs to comply with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines (HIG).
Metro is the OS interface. What do you need tiles for INSIDE an MS Office program?
This will be HUGE. Can’t say I am convinced it will happen at all however. This will eat in to windows bottom line big time.
I’m not so sure this will hurt Windows much. To do that, it will have to sell. To sell, it will have to be good. Get it?

Curious as to the cost… IF its true anyway.
I have CloudOn on my iPad, it works for when I need office crap. Still don’t have pages, I just don’t use pages enough on my macs to justify it on the iPad. Yet anyway.
November 10 is a Saturday. i doubt this is the date.
It will sell. If nothing else, it will keep the IT jerks from being able to say the iPad is a toy.

Good news for people who can’t go to Pages from Word. There are lots of people out there that use Word and have the seriously complex formats that things like Pages just can’t deal with.
I don’t think it will eat into Windows bottom line, at least not directly… having Office on Mac never hurt Windows but it sure makes lots of money for Microsoft, and maintains the Office hegemony.
Oh yes! There is a God! Less we should let any future generations forget what M$ was. Everyone should know the pains that suffer from the creations that comes forth from the Redmond menace!
And the Malware will follow ;p

It’s about time. MS is a software company and they stand to make some cash with this. I won’t use it, but many will buy just out of curiosity..and it’s nice to have backup programs in your arsenal just in case you run into compatibility issues.
Excel is needed though. Numbers is great in theory..but not compatible enough with Excel to use in the office. And excel isn’t going away anytime soon.
All I need is Excel on an iPad and I’d be set!
I’ve tried all alternatives, Gnumeric, Open Office, Apple Numbers etc. etc…. Excel is hands down the most versatile and powerful spreadsheet out there imho.
unfortunatly, I bet macros will be nonexistent or severely disabled ;(
I don’t think this is true. Msft is not going to give up their only selling point for Windows Tablets.

And for those who ‘need’ the complexity (read fussy crap) of Word – it aint going to happen on the iPad.
The idea of the iPad is to keep it simple and workable – typing complex docs on an iPad? Give me a break.
Screw Microsoft and screw Word – they add to the toxic mix that we all have to drink these days, the wonderful cocktail of stupidity and bureaucracy.
Good apps on the iPad are elegant, simple, and intuitive. MS never made a product with those qualities and I doubt they are going to start now.

Personally I think this will be really big for Apple and the iPad. Office is a very important product. This will accelerate adoption at businesses.
