“Apple Inc. is preparing an upgrade of its online service iCloud,” Jessica E. Vascellaro reports for The Wall Street Journal. citing “people familiar with the matter.”
“The new features, expected to be announced at Apple’s world-wide developer conference beginning June 11, will allow iCloud users to share sets of photos with other iCloud users and to comment on them, these people said,” Vascellaro reports. “Apple is also working on a new feature that will allow iCloud users to sync their personal videos via iCloud, these people said, as well as allow users to access ‘Notes’ and ‘Reminders’ — two of its apps for jotting down quick thoughts—through iCloud.com.”
Vascellaro reports, “These features are also expected in Apple’s next mobile-phone operating system iOS 6, which Apple is planning to preview to developers in June, the people said.”

As it sits, anything will be an upgrade….
I would settle for a mail server that actually remembers and stops annoying me with iCloud password requests. Geez.
same here, man that’s a pain in the ass.
That might not be mail. I might be the automatic backup that happens whenever you get in your home wifi network, and are plugged in. Is this when it asks for a password?
The iCloud is great but I really want it to include the iDisk features that allow me to post websites and stream video’s. Yeah, I know there are alternatives but I really didn’t want to have to use another service.
I would pay and would rather pay Apple then someone else.

Completely agree! I hate the idea of google, M$, or dropbox getting my services! I would much rather trust Apple with my storage needs!!
Exactly.
Post Jobs Apple embarrassingly behind EVERYBODY with cloud services. And,now wondering what to do about security – old Steve arrogance has come back to haunt them. http://goo.gl/FqLvS
cough*bullshit*cough
Do you seriously believe Apple went to Kaspersky wringing their hands saying “Ooh, Mr Kaspersky, we know nothing about how to secure our OS against malware. Please advise us because we are completely ignorant about security.”
Until Apple themselves come out and say it, I’ll take your prognostication with a liberal dose of sodium chloride.

… before or after we lost Jobs? I’d have sworn it was before. Or, at least, the announcement came before. So, maybe you ought not go blaming Tim Cook (post Jobs leadership) for something that wasn’t his direct fault.
I would like to see Apple do two things: 1) get all of iCloud’s present features to work for everyone at least most of the time, and 2) include all the features present in SugarSync.
i’m not interested in hyper-specialized features that won’t work anyway.
Is it just me or is Tim Cook starting to look more like Steve Ballmer? Lion as an OS is a genuine rats nest of mistakes and bugs, iCloud is under featured and essentially pointless (not to mention non functional), and there seems to have been problems in essentially every aspect of the company that has changed since Steve Jobs’ passing. There was so much momentum …now it’s tragic to watch someone with conventional vision guide the company down a dark alley.
Nope. It’s just you. Move Along, AssTroll.
bwahahaha! AssTroll, ya heard? 🙂
YES the name ‘PR’ hardly a subtle attempt at trolling is it.
Lion a genuine rats nest of mistakes and bugs? You’re holding it wrong!
Somewhere, in a far off land, a bridge is missing its troll.
=:~)
Who knew trolls could type?
A bit overstated, but I have noticed that Tiger perfected Panther, and Snow Leopard perfected Leopard. Perhaps Mountain Lion will perfect Lion.
Well, PR you stepped into it with this post. All the MDN lemmings can do is trot out the tired old TROLL label for anyone who doubts the omniscience of all things Apple. The post-Jobs era is developing exactly the way you have described regardless of these mindless attacks on your comments.
-rather an AAPL shareholding MDN lemming than a useless troll, tho.
I am a AAPL shareholder – a rich one no matter how low it goes – AND a faithful owner of everything Mac and Apple since 1984. The difference between you and me is that I’m not interested in coming here for the sole purpose of praising Cupertino for their every utterance. The company is slipping into mediocrity – we see it everywhere – denying that fact is just stupid.
Ok got yer point. Don’t say stoopid. Can’t support you yet. Friends?
@PR: “…guide the company down a dark alley…”
It’s the product birth canal, man! … and how sweet it is!
Apple needs to put a clamp on these damn leaks. Steve would have had the heads roll of the people who leaked this.
There was a time when the rumors outdid reality by so much that it was damaging to Apple. Since then they appear to have more controlled leaks to manage expectations. No more rumors about Apple colonizing Mars or curing cancer.
Thanks, but no thanks. For me personally, iCloud gives me nothing I want except my mac.com email address.
Is there any word as iCloud being used like Dropbox?
“People familiar with the matter” might be alluding to Apple ventureing into the social network scene again, this time “in the cloud.”
iPhoto Match. 250.000 photos up.
I hope not. Dropbox is too limited with its single sync folder. Let’s hope they copy SugarSync.
