Fitch Ratings downgrades beleaguered Nokia to junk status

“Fitch Ratings downgraded its credit rating on Nokia Oyj to junk status and said the outlook remained negative, as the Finnish handset maker’s dwindling market share starts to strain its cash position,” Tarmo Virki reports for Reuters. “Shares in Nokia, which were hit badly this month by a profit warning, fell 2 percent to a new 15-year low of 2.654 euros after the downgrade on Tuesday”

“Fitch cut its rating on Nokia – already downgraded in recent weeks by Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s – to BB+ from BBB – and said this could be lowered further unless the company’s business showed improvements over the second half of 2012 and in 2013,” Virki reports. “‘Given the potential headwinds facing the company, Fitch is currently not convinced that Nokia can attain this over the course of 18 months,’ it said in a statement.”

Virki reports, “Its Chief Executive Stephen Elop bet last year the firm on the new range of Lumia smartphones, which are using Microsoft Corp software, but sales have so far been slow. Last week Nokia reported a steep loss for the first quarter, dropped its sales chief and promised to slash more costs.”

  1. I love Apple and all, but we need strong healthy competition.

Nokia, RIM, Windows Phone, Android is getting heat from all side, YIKES!

I hope these guys get it together becasue in technology, competition inspires innovation.

      1. Commonly used to refer to any computational analysis. Basically, a calculator/computer is only good when you give it accurate data.

If you put in junk, you get out junk.

  2. Competition is good, but the viable competitors sat on their thumbs for 3 years after Apple showed them how to do it.

I do not feel sorry for Nokia, RIM, Dell, HTC, etc.

    1. All of these lost and parasitic companies deserve bankruptcy. I have no sympathy for them either.

But Apple requires competition. We need young bloods kicking the self-destructive geezer companies aside, making new visions and new creations for a revitalized, competitive, REAL capitalist system again. Get busy kids!

  3. I’m worried about there being competition with Apple.

This almost across-the-board decline of wannabe Apple competitors speaks a lot about not only Apple’s quality accession, but of the rest of the industry’s stagnation and decline into dreck.

Hello tech industry! It’s time to dump the Marketing-As-Management crap and put entrepreneurial minds back in charge! Give the inventors INCENTIVE and RESOURCES! Kick the Marketing Morons (but not the Marketing Mavens) back down the corporate staircase!

I’m talking at YOU Sony, Kodak, RIM, Nokia, Samedung, Panasonic, Toyota, Honda, GM, Chrysler, (Ford already did it), LG, Sharp, Dell, IBM, Microsoft, China, (In fact China, just dump your entire criminal culture and government please!), Google, HTC… You get the idea.
