Apple has sent out the following email to iWork.com users:
Dear iWork.com user,
Thanks for participating in the iWork.com public beta.
Last year, we launched iCloud, a service that stores your music, photos, documents, and more and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. Today, there are already over 40 million documents stored on iCloud by millions of iWork customers. Learn more about iCloud.
With a new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.com public beta service will no longer be available. As of July 31, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web.
We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all your documents to your computer. For detailed instructions on how to save a copy of your documents on your computer, read this support article at Apple.com.

That is so frustrating! iWork is a great and simple way to share documents with my team. So much much better than e-mail, fully integrated into Pages and Number we use all day long. There is no replacement for this unique feature in iCloud, so why Apple shuts iWork down? Or why they do not announce that this feature will be incorporated into iCloud?
Apple’s cloud services are an eternal beta- kind of like iMoviePro Vista Edition X, which still sucks.

FCPX is a good PRO editing tool and getting better with each release.
It’s no FCP 7…
It’s not FCP7. While still weak in a couple of areas, it outdoes FCP7 in others. It’s a different design and until you’re really indoctrinated in some new procedures (get some good tutorials on it), you won’t fully understand what FCPX is doing. I expect FCPX to be fully at par – and beyond – FCP7 within the next 6 months or so. It is well beyond what most non-pro consumers will be learning though it will clearly be easier to learn for non-pro’s than FCP7 has been.
The iCloud Documents system is kinda kooky.
Never used iWork.com. However, all cloud document systems I’ve tried are kinda quirky/kooky in some ways. Google Docs (not great with heavily Word formatted docs), Windows Live (have to name a doc before starting one, e.g.) – and while SugarSync is great for straight internet backup of multiple PC’s for one user and has a share feature I’ve never tried it. Nor do I know about DropBox’s share features….
… agree on this. Mainly because I’ve never gotten it to work. I try to Share from Pages and it offers me iWork.com (Beta). I go to the Cloud and ask about “iWork” – the choices offered are Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find My iPhone and iWork – and it tells me about Pages! It also offers Keynote and Numbers, if that matters.
iWork.com always worked just fine. For me. at least. iCloud, I can’t even tell if it’s working well or not. Maybe it’s iWork that’s still working just fine and iCloud is just along for the ride.

iCloud syncs some things on my iPhone. Love all of the iWork apps, and will keep using them as I always have.
Was a teacher for years. The whole concept of group work is so badly over-rated. Your groups are only as good as the weakest member, and in the case of students, the weakest ones in a group actually learn less because they intuitively lean on the strong ones, its human nature.
So all in all: yawn
