Roger McNamee: Google and Microsoft are missing the ‘Hypernet’; says Zuckerberg ‘The One’

“Elevation Partners managing director Roger McNamee, who invested in Palm and sold it to Hewlett-Packard, among many, many other ventures in his long career, this afternoon was interviewed by Margaret Brennan of Bloomberg TV regarding what he calls ‘the hyper net,’ which he describes as the sum of the Old Internet plus all the new cellular and mobile technologies, such as smartphones and tablets,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s. “McNamee warned Microsoft (MSFT) and Google (GOOG) are not really participating in the Hypernet, and are likely to be left in the dust as trends change in how people work and play.”

This is all about rising production values and much cooler experiences in the mobile environment… I think the guys who dominated in the technology world don’t get to play… There’s no profits at Microsoft or Google from these things [gestures to iPhone] I think we’re going to try to create a new Web, and we’re going to use a technology called HTML5, and in doing so, we’re going to have to out-Apple Apple, and that’s not going to help Google, that’s not going to help Microsoft. – Roger McNamee

“McNamee also talked about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. McNamee said Zuckerberg, whom he’s known since Zuckerberg was 22, is ‘more mature’ at his age than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs were at the same age. “He’s the best I’ve ever known,” said McNamee,” Ray reports. “Sounding like Morpheus from ‘The Matrix,’ McNamee remarked of Zuckerberg, ‘I think he is the one.'”

  1. LOL! What a frigtard! Did he just discover HTML5?

He needs to get together with Ed Zabitsky, the guy with a $270 price target on Apple who thinks HTML5 will disrupt Apple’s AppStore.

  2. although I agree Goog and Msft are floundering in their strategies, I’ll take whatever McNamee says with a big pinch of salt. His a huckster.

His famours prediction in 2009 about the demise of the iPhone at the hands of the Palm Pre:

“June 29, 2009, is the two-year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone. Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later. ”

McNamee M.O is to hype up his investments no matter how tech nonsense some of them are, get investors to pour money in who are fooled by his B.S (“Palm will rule the World!!!” )and then he’ll bail at the peak collecting a nice profit.

  3. The ONE?

Correct me if I am wrong, I thought My Space debuted before Facebook. Just like Apple’s GUI debuted before WinDoze in the 1980s. If so, looks like we have another copycat with marketing skills backed by Big Media/Hollywood love.

  4. “He’s the best I’ve ever known,” said McNamee,” Ray reports. “Sounding like Morpheus from ‘The Matrix,’ McNamee remarked of Zuckerberg, ‘I think he is the one.’”

‘The One’??? I think Obama will take offense to that!
