“Apple’s iPad could be described as a personal display through which you see and manipulate text, graphics, photos and videos often delivered via the Internet. So, how has the company chosen to improve its wildly popular tablet? By making that display dramatically better and making the delivery of content dramatically faster,” Walter S. Mossberg writes for The Wall Street Journal. “The key upgrades are to those core features—the 9.7-inch screen and the data speed over cellular networks. These upgrades are massive. Using the new display is like getting a new eyeglasses prescription—you suddenly realize what you thought looked sharp before wasn’t nearly as sharp as it could be.”
“Boosting those particular features—the screen and the cellular speed—usually has a negative impact on battery life in a digital device. But Apple has managed to crank them up them while maintaining the long battery life between charges that has helped give the iPad such an edge over other tablets,” Mossberg writes. “I’ve been testing the new iPad, and… its key improvements strengthen its position as the best tablet on the market.”
Mossberg writes, “It has the most spectacular display I have ever seen in a mobile device. The company squeezed four times the pixels into the same physical space as on the iPad 2 and claims the new iPad’s screen has a million more pixels than an HDTV. All I know is that text is much sharper, and photos look richer… Since it launched in 2010, the iPad has been the best tablet on the planet. With the new, third-generation model, it still holds that crown.”

UPS claims on my tracking website that my iPad will be arriving by 3pm today, one day early. If this is a pleasant surprise gift to preorderers, then Apple has just outdone themselves again!
Hope that happens – my iPad received its “origin scan” in Shenzhen last Friday and nothing since, so I’m getting a bit fidgety.
OMG! I just checked UPS tracking again, and mine’s gotten its “import scan” at Louisville, KY, this morning. I’m in Texas, so there’s no way I’m getting mine early…and that’s perfectly OK.
Mine has been in Louisville for 2.5 days now; still no sign of movement. I received the Smart Cover on Monday and the SIMM card is being delivered today, but the iPad shipment seems to have stalled! Oh, and I also ordered a new AppleTV and I has been sitting in the factory in China with a shipping sticker attached for 24 hours. Grrrrrrr…….
I meant the AppleTV has been sitting in the factory, not me. (:
I received my Smart Cover last Saturday – not exactly useful without the iPad, though.
The SIMM card arrived 10 minutes ago. Now it’s just sitting there; not doing anything; just waiting, and waiting, and ……..
