Select Wal-Mart, Best Buy stores to start sales of new iPad at 12:01am on Friday, March 16

“I just received the following email from a PR agency,” Matthew Miller reports for ZDNet.

If you want to be the first person amongst your friends and colleagues to have the new iPad, you will need to head to your local Walmart. Starting at 12:01 a.m. local time on March 16, a limited supply of the new iPad will be available at your local 24-hour Walmart. Other retailers’ doors don’t open until 8 a.m. local time, so you can get to work on time and beat the rush by coming to Walmart.

In addition, multiple sources have told us that at
east some Best Buys will be doing the same: iPad sales start at 12:01am local time.

Call your local stores to make sure they’ll be open and selling iPads.

  1. I just got off the phone with a local Best Buy (Atlanta), she said they didn’t have plans to open early. Opening at 10am first come first serve. See ya’ll in the morning!

    1. I work at a different retailer than Best Buy, and I haven’t been in for a few days so I don’t know if it’s changed, but we were definitely told by our HO (who got it from Apple) that 12:01AM was the point at which we could sell it. Our HO decided to just open at 9AM as usual, but I could see 24-hour Walmarts selling at midnight, or Best Buy staying open.

TBH I was wondering why there hadn’t been any mention of this before given that we were told pretty clearly that it was a midnight launch.

    1. Nice usually that’s code for we can’t afford it but every once in while bringing two home will actually save you versus get you killed or divorced…. I for one wanna know what really happens with this situation.
