Canaccord Genuity: Apple to sell 65.6 million iPads this year; sees record pre-orders for new iPad

“Apple Inc is seeing record pre-orders for its latest iPad with wait times for shipping the tablet now reaching two to three weeks, said Canaccord Genuity analysts, who now expect the company to sell 65.6 million iPads this year,” Chandni Doulatramani reports for Reuters.

“‘With our checks indicating record pre-orders and 2-3 week wait times for new iPads, we anticipate a record iPad launch this weekend,’ said analysts T Michael Walkley and Matthew Ramsay,” Doulatramani reports. “They raised their iPad unit estimate to 65.6 million from 55.9 million for 2012, and to 90.6 million from 79.7 million for 2013, saying rivals will likely struggle to introduce competitive products over the next couple quarters.”

Doulatramani reports, “The analysts raised their price target on Apple stock to $710 from $665, and maintained their ‘buy’ rating.”

  1. ^ I agree, Zmarc.

Also, regarding “rivals will likely struggle to introduce competitive products over the next couple quarters.”

It’s more like “rivals will be unable to introduce competitive products over the next couple of years”

  2. And this morning from the Barrons story – I love it!!! – Michael Walkley writes:

The folks working with Google’s (GOOG) Android operating system for tablets appear to have ceded much of the field to Apple, he’s concluded:

While Android tablets were a primary focus at last year’s CES [Consumer Electronics Show] and MWC [Mobile World Congress] conferences, most Android OEMs offered tablets this year but focused meetings and marketing plans on new smartphone offerings or essentially conceded the high-end tablet market to Apple in the near term. In fact, our meetings with Android tablet OEMs indicated the difficulty in competing with the iPad 2, let alone the new iPad.

    Heh, heh, heh >8^)

  3. Wait until the Windows H8 tablets come out and we’ll see how suckcessful they’ll be! The last bastion to supremacy will be washed away. Ballmer will be, at last, politely asked to leave (violently by the scruff of his neck thrown out & drop kicked out the nearest door with the nearest chair hurled after him hitting him upside the head in a failed heap.) And we won’t have Steve Ballmer to kick around and ridicule anymore. Well maybe at the nearest Redmond used car lot.
