Texas Governor Rick Perry announces Apple to invest $304 million, create 3,600 new jobs in Austin

Gov. Rick Perry today announced that Apple will expand its presence in Texas with a $304 million investment in a new campus in Austin that will create more than 3,600 new jobs. The new campus will more than double the size of Apple’s workforce in Texas over the next decade, supporting the company’s growing operations in the Americas with expanded customer support, sales and accounting functions for the region. In exchange for Apple’s commitment to create these new jobs in Texas, the state has offered Apple an investment of $21 million over ten years through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF).

“Apple is known for its bold innovation and game-changing designs, and the expansion of their Austin facility adds to the growing list of visionary high-tech companies that have found that Texas’ economic climate is a perfect fit for their future, thanks to our low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulations, fair legal system and skilled workforce,” Gov. Perry said in a statement. “Investments like this further Texas’ potential to become the nation’s next high-tech hub.”

The project is supported by an investment from the TEF, which offers companies incentives to invest in Texas. When completed, it will be one of the largest job creation projects in TEF history, and one of the largest capital investments by a TEF recipient. The agreement is contingent upon the finalization of contracts and a local incentive agreement with the City of Austin and Travis County.

The Legislature created the TEF in 2003 and re-appropriated funding in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 to help ensure the growth of Texas businesses and create more jobs throughout the state. TEF projects must be approved by the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the House. The fund has since become one of the state’s most competitive tools to recruit and bolster business. To date, the TEF has invested more than $443.4 million and closed the deal on projects generating more than 62,000 new jobs and more than $15.4 billion in capital investment in the state.

    1. Yeah Baby! Republicans Rock! Republicans get out of the way and let people do their thing. Unlike the commie-dictator-wannabes that are Demotards!!!!!!!

      1. I’m sure the decision was despite Perry and the Texas Board of Edumacation, not because of it. Austin is a bright spot of blue in a sea of dull red.

          1. Why do light bulbs cost $50 now??? Why can’t I buy an incandescent light bulb any more? Why do I need low water toilet? Why are liberals sticking their noses in every minute detail of everyone’s lives. Go to hell liberals!

            1. Don’t buy the $50 light bulbs yet, then. But you already knew that — you just like to complain. The price of LED bulbs will continue to drop fast, and their color spectrum will continue to improve. And the benefit to us all will be huge Are you seriously asking why we need low water toilets? Is your head firmly stuck up your SUV’s tailpipe? Learn about water resources in this country, brother, and start giving a damn.

            2. Hey Daaaaaavid, what’s wrong with SUVs?? I own one and they are great! You go buy yourself a clown care you fool. We don’t need the commies telling us what type of car or toilet we can have. Screw you and your phony-lie of global warming used only as a tool to steal everyone’s hard earned private property and constitutional rights. Go screw up another country you troll.

            3. What interesting is that your republicans are telling me that I can’t marry whom I love. Your republicans want to pass legislate to stick camera up a woman’s vagina to force her to view a sonogram. Whats interesting is that your republicans want to force everyone else in this country to adhere to your biblical law.

But from one Mac head to another. Cheers…

“There is no problem with your opinion. The problem is when you want to make your opinion my reality.”

            1. @ Mike F,

That is not how a sonogram is taken. The business end is rubbed on K-Y jelly on the Woman’s stomach.

What’s wrong with being well informed before deciding to have an abortion? It’s still a woman’s choice.

        1. I would hope so, or they and Perry could and should secede from the union, the brain-damaged dimmest of bulbs. I have to question the intelligence of people who think “Republicans Rock.” Seriously- you really think so?

“Be like water,” as Bruce lee said. You’ve been Fox-ified, soon to be extinct. Unless you don’t believe in evolution…

          1. Hahaha I’m thinking maybe Texas SHOULD declare its independence- Low taxes, new jobs… Yup, obviously the opposite of California, my home state.. But Apple is there too, defying the pundits and the economists with their capitalism… California needs to start over.. Oh and Edumacation is broke here too, even with all those high taxes.

            1. Yeah the Democratic People’s Republic of California is losing jobs like crazy. I can give you a guided tour of the many FOR LEASE or FOR SALE signs on business buildings that once were thriving. Seems the owners of those buildings are no reconverting them to overly priced apartments or condos but they occupancy rate is just a bit better.

      2. Yeah, Apple is the most liberal company out there with a closed eco-system of products and services.

        Go Republicans!

They’ll ignore there values for money – oh wait – they have no other values except money and a hatred for science.

        1. Apple may be liberal socially, but it is a VERY capitalist company. Going green makes sense when it increases efficiency. But don’t think Apple doesn’t concentrate on profits- there is seldom innovation without profit. The left and right extremists will kill the golden goose- get us back to the center 😉

      3. If “getting out of the way” is synonymous with giving a $21M incentive, then sure…Wise One…

Regardless of the polititrolling, this is great news for Austin and Texas as a whole.

      4. TEF is a state institution, funded by the taxpayers through the state. It is giving a private company “incentives:” giving the company tax money. Is that not communistic? Or did President Obama somehow force Governer Perry to gie them the money?

  1. Meanwhile:

Gallup: U.S. February Unemployment Rate: 9.1%

The U.S. government announced the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.3% in February, the same as in January. In a mid-February report Gallup forecast that the seasonally adjusted U.S. unemployment rate would increase in February, given an upward trend in its unadjusted measure of unemployment at that time. Gallup’s assessment is that the timeliness of its measure is picking up an uptick in unemployment that is not being seen by the government’s survey methodology.

Gallup’s measures showed that U.S. unemployment, as measured without seasonal adjustment, was 9.0% in mid-February, and in the full month of February the rate was 9.1%.

In sum, Gallup Daily tracking of the U.S. unemployment rate — not seasonally adjusted and on a current time basis — showed an increase in February from January. The government’s unemployment report on Friday, based on a complex adjusted process, and with a tendency to not pick up the most recent changes in the marketplace, reports a stable rate of unemployment… Gallup suggests caution because its state-of-the-art measurement design — without adjustment — is signaling that the unemployment reality in the marketplace may not be as good as the government report suggests.

    The Obama deception continues.

    1. During his golfing vacation at Martha’s Vineyard – President Obama had been slicing off the tee on every hole.

He asks his Scottish born caddy if he has noticed any obvious reasons for his
poor tee shots, to which the caddy replies:

“Aye, there’s a piece of shyt on the end of yer driver. ”
The President picks up his driver and cleans the club face, at which point the caddy says:

      “No, the other end.”

      1. I’m not sure what the point here is.

If true, it’s a small, small fraud. I mean, if you win $1M in the lottery, that’s only $50k for 20 years. Obviously, $50k is above the level for $200 in food aid, but it’s not exactly rolling in the dough.

        1. It’s called stealing tax payers money. Come on KenC you have to agree that she should not be taking from us producers now that she has a pile of cash. The woman has no clue if you listen to her interview. I can’t believe anyone but a communist would condone that behavior.

          1. Where did I condone it?

I didn’t understand why it was posted here. Besides, there are tons of far bigger frauds than a $200 a month food-aid fraud.

            1. ‘ Besides, there are tons of far bigger frauds than a $200 a month food-aid fraud.’

Yes Ken, Just look at demoDetroit and sickoChicago – controlled for 40 years by who?

            2. Probably to point out the mentality that Republicans are dealing with and what destroys the US versus what makes the US great, thing like what Rick Perry is doing. There, do you understand better now? Doubt it.

        2. Actually she took the lump sum, so she got a check for about $500,000 after taxes. She said she thought the state would take her off the food stamp program, but when they didn’t she just went with it. I think I would call someone when that next batch of food stamps showed up. Just continuing to accept them strikes me as mindset conditioned for entitlement. Small fraud in dollars, but a troubling lack of judgement.

And none of this has anything to do with Macs or Apple, so why are we talking about this again?

        3. The POINT is an illustration of the sense of entitlement that is beginning to be more and more pervasive. It’s people who desire FREEDOM versus those who just want FREE STUFF paid for by others.

    2. Aww, poor conservative upset that the economy isn’t weak enough for his flaccid presidential candidate to get any traction during the general election.

It’s alright bud, I’m sure Mitt Romney has other ways he can connect with average voters besides talking about the economy. Why, he can reflect on the height of the trees and how much butter his maid puts on his grits every morning.

        1. First 2010, Then 2012:

We’re still awaiting your response to a simple question:

When Obama trounces whoever the Republican nominee is in November, what witty explanation will you provide on this forum?

          1. Keep dreaming Hans. The vetting has begun, the people know the truth about the fraud that is Maobama, the birth certificate is being investigated. Get ready and brace your tiny lemming, libtard, brains for a landslide loss for your “chosen” one.

      1. Sound a little jealous you loser R2. Get off your ass and work your way to the top you class warfare lemming. Man are you a loser with that pathetic attitude.

        1. I’m a healthy, happy man with a loving family, a nice house in a very safe neighborhood with a decent, reliable car that gets me to my decent, reliable job. I’m already at the top. My words aren’t a reflection of jealousy contrary to the talking point which the RNC taught you to employ to deflect criticism of trickle down economics.

          1. It’s class warfare R2. Good for Romney for being successful. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of being wildly successful no mater what you libtards say.

            1. There’s nothing wrong with being successful, it’s greed that’s the problem. Greed such as favoring economic policies that will help sustain your success while keeping others from achieving the same. If you wish to label those who oppose greedy bastards like Romney as class warfare combatants then so be it.

            2. Successful conservatives contribute more to charity than any other group. Biden contributed around $300 last year. Obama hates charities. Criminal behavior is bad. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make boat loads of money, lemming boy.

            3. You’re right, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make boat loads of money. There is something wrong with believing in allowing the richest people to hold all of the wealth in this country so it can magically trickle down onto the rest of us.

            4. “Greed such as favoring economic policies that will help sustain your success while keeping others from achieving the same.”

What have African Americans who have been shackled to gov’t-funded subsistence for the last 6 decades gotten for voting in lockstep for Democrats for the last 6 decades?

More food stamps, more dependency, more despondency, more government shackles.

Democrats enslave and impoverish under the guide of “helping.”

I now return you to the delusions of the loony left and their complicit lackeys in the mainstream media.

            5. 2010-2012 I would add that the Democrats aren’t really doing it to help anyone but the politicians get elected and re-elcted by promising free sht and stirring up racist, class warfare. Bottom of the barrel these people!

            6. Some how I get the feeling if I’m reading between R2’s lines that he wants to put a cap on how successful any of us are allowed to be. Not a chance R2. You commies don’t get to make that call in the US. No cap, get the freak out of our lives.

            7. “Greedy Bastards like Romney” …..????? You are one effed up it R2. You are a complete lost cause. And we don’t believe that you are successful.

      2. On January 3rd, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress, the unemployment rate was 4.6%. A rate of approximately 4.5% is considered “FULL EMPLOYMENT.”

Furthermore, January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown in which we are still mired happened 15 months later.

President George W. Bush asked Congress 17 separate times to reform Fannie & Freddie -starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy). Barney Frank blocked it every time and called it a “Chicken Little Philosophy” until the sky fell on all of us – as Conservatives knew it would.

George W. Bush’s Economic policies set a record for 52 straight months of job creation.

These are facts. I now return you to the delusions of the loony left and their complicit lackeys in the mainstream media.

        1. US unemployment numbers by year (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0104719.html)

          1996 – 5.4
          1997 – 4.9
          1998 – 4.5
          1999 – 4.2
          2000 – 4.0
          2001 – 4.7
          2002 – 5.8
          2003 – 6.0
          2004 – 5.5
          2005 – 5.1
          2006 – 4.6
          2007 – 4.6
          2008 – 5.8
          2009 – 9.3
          2010 – 9.6

Which 52-month (4+ year) period are you talking about? They were never as low as 2000, when Clinton was still in office.

Unemployment rose steadily all throughout Bush’s first term (2001-end of 2004), when Republicans controlled both House and Senate.

The rate dropped only 2 years (2004-2006), held steady for one, then went up sharply during Bush’s last year in office (2008).

Notice how in Clinton’s second term, there actually were 4+ years of decreasing unemployment rates.

            1. Republicans are indeed lemmings.

If Clinton was so distracted and politically useless that the controlling Republicans are entirely responsible for the decreasing unemployment numbers 1997-2000, then they have zero, nadda, zip excuse for the increase once Bush came to power and the House, Senate AND president’s office were all controlled by Republicans.

Can’t blame Clinton for any economic mess that Bush had to clean up, either–if, as you say, Republicans controlled both House and Senate and Clinton was politically impotent.

            2. mossman,

The economy runs in cycles. It’s not an absolute. If you’re really going to try to blame Republicans for being a point or even two over full employment, you’re even stupider than you sound.

            3. @Economist,

Oh, so now it’s “cycles” and “not absolutes”, eh? Tell that to all the partisan flamers who are blaming Obama for the current mess then, and “First 2010, Then 2012” especially for crediting GW Bush with a supposed 4+ straight years of improvement that’s not reflected in the numbers.

“A point or two over full employment”? 4 of the 8 Bush years were at least a full percent higher. If we’re counting “points” as percentages, so that even 6.5% is acceptable, then 7 of Clinton’s 8 years were lower than this; the only year that wasn’t was right after Bush Sr.’s administration ended.

I’m not the stupid one with reading comprehension issues or political axes to grind. I’m also not a sad little anonymous coward like you are, flinging insults from their parents’ basement, afraid to login and have a posting history.

            4. I wasn’t defending Obama’s job creation record (did I mention Obama once in my original reply? or the second?), just challenging F2T2’s assertion that Bush economic policies led to 52 straight months of improved unemployment numbers.

Anonymous cowards who contribute nothing to the discussion but kindergarten insults and name calling = sad children learning how to type for the first time.

Not a single intelligent rebuttal to any of my replies under F2T2’s comment. Is this the best the haters have to offer?

            5. It’s not Bush economic policies it’s conservative economic policies that always do well. It’s only when the libtards get involved that the SHTF.

  2. Is that going to be home base for their legal team….?
    I kid.

Congrats to my home state for scoring this and to Rick Perry for being able to deliver the good news.
(He’s a good governor, but not such a great campaigner…)

  3. Is that $21M per year, or $21M total? When Dell opened a factory in North Carolina back in 2007 or so, they got something like $220+M in tax benefits for only 2000 or so jobs. Of course, they closed that plant after only 3 years.

  4. it’s interesting Apple is opening a support center in Texas for the Americas (I assume for Central and South America) while Dell has support centers for the USA in India.

    1. Not if your man Maobama has any say in it. He’ll probably shut the down like the Keystone Pipeline. Liberals are in an all out assault on private business.

  5. Despite individuals trying to take credit or the political divisions, What’s good for Texas is good for the country. Don’t forget that Apple is in California and Apple does employ a lot of people in California plus in the Apple Stores country wide.

The president isn’t anti-business but the republican is anti-president. If only the republicans and democrats were willing to work better with the president, we would have far more economic success.

    1. Mees, never going to happen. And you’re wrong about the president. He is anti-business. The DOJ has Apple in their cross hairs. Wake up and smell the commies.

      1. Let’s go all NON SEQUITUR folks and talk about POLITICS!

This place gets truly pathetic when there is the tiniest opportunity to go all PoliTard on any subject. (o_0)

Well I say: 😛 😛 to both your parties.

          1. Oh, clever Tiki. Use that ragged old Neo-Con-Job trick of turn about insults. Sorry, but as ever, that propaganda strategy has again FAILed. You don’t have to be foolish Tiki. You could always bother to wake up and learn about reality. But I bet you’re absolutely determined to be lazy, aren’t you! Then you rant around here like you know what you’re talking about.

            Too easy.

            1. You’re the one that needs a dose of reality and you will get it if liberals keep effing up everything you stupid little troll, Derrrrrreck.

  6. This is nothing. Apple’s not really creating jobs. Those 3000 people would be working somewhere else if they weren’t working for Apple. Nobody creates jobs. Nobody does anything. /s

          1. Nice try. If you’re trying to equate liberalism to socialism, the Nazis had “national socialist” in their name but that’s like saying North Korea is in fact democratic (official name: Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). As soon as they got into power the Nazis turned on the communists and socialists.

The far-right that make up most of the modern Republican Party just doesn’t like the fact they’re on the same side of the political spectrum (uselessly one-dimensional as it is) as the fascist Nazis.

The US founding fathers were “classic liberals” by definition (look it up), and very forward-thinking, progressive thinkers for their time.

            1. And not to mention Mosstard, all of the elected DemoLemming KKK members. Liberals are the definition of racist but they try to pretend otherwise and then try to use that to gain more power. Look at the total and absolute failures all Liberal controlled parts of the country are. Detroit for instance, Califreakville, and on and on. You are not fooling a single, informed, person. Numb Nuts.

            2. The truth is conservatism!

Liberalism equals misery for all. Bring down everyone’s standard of living but the government elite and their special exemption buddies. SCREW YOU LIBTARD-ZOMBIE-LEMMINGS!!!!!!

            3. LOL @Reality and @Markus, yet more anonymous cowards who don’t have have two brain cells to rub together to make a coherent, intelligent response. If “manmoss” is your definition of schooling no wonder you and others like you come out into civilized society so brain-dead.

            4. mossman thinks he’s the definition of civility…… What a lemming TOOL boy. Your liberal-socialist-progressive party is responsible for all of the horrors of the world. NAZIs did originate from your party. KKK members were your party. Elected KKK members in your party. STUFF IT you lightweight!

            5. LOL @Srixon, another anonymous coward flinging fundamentalist feces. You wouldn’t know civility if it came up and shook your hand. I belong to no party, I like thinking for myself. Card-carrying members of any party are sheep.

        1. You are so completely wrong and off-base that it is useless to try to educate you to the reality of our Founding Fathers.

You have found a web site that takes quotes out of context and you fell for their obstructed viewpoint.

          Really, really pathetic.

          1. Touched a nerve, I see? It’s not “useless” to try educating me, you just won’t try because you won’t take the time to cite any sources to back you up (I likewise won’t waste my time, if you won’t even look up “classic liberal” like I said in a follow-up comment, then it’s clear you’ll just dismiss any further attempts as “web sites that take quotes out of context”).

I have read far more about the founding fathers, their actions and their beliefs than most Americans have or ever will, not just “a website that takes quotes out of context”. At least I have read it, from multiple sources, and their references, and not been content to simply believe what I’m told by modern-day politicians and ideologues with their revisionist history and agendas.

(Side note: though we disagree and fight on this, kudos and respect for at least responding as a registered user, not as a totally anonymous coward throwing infantile insults like so many others here.)

            1. ‘Classic ‘ liberalism has nothing to do with ‘modern’ liberalism other than a bastardization of the name and a dream they correlate.

I have studied history from all sides for over 35 years.
I know what I have read, and I know what I have seen misinterpreted.

History is history. It doesn’t need to be changed to facilitate a new viewpoint.

Our Founding Fathers looked to history to make the future better, they did not alter it to make the future theirs.

            2. To that point, modern conservatism has also bastardized traditional conservatism.

Anyway I’m not getting too deeply into this, I admit my reply to so-called “Fact” was meant to be snarky and bent the truth slightly, just to counter his vitriolic lie that “liberalism” destroys everything.

            3. mush-whimp,

You spout nothing but hate and racism. You are a liberal-progressive-democrat that is the same thing as a commie-marxist-dictator wannabe. You, you cretin, can go to hell.

It’s incredible how far astray your tiny little brain has gone.

            4. LOL @Timbuktu, yet another anonymous coward who doesn’t have have two brain cells to rub together to make a coherent, intelligent response.

            5. Another loss for mossman…..

mossman is getting schooled here. Love it. it has no come back but infantile insults. Liberalism always loses, every time.

            6. LOL@ “Always Right.” Not a single anonymous coward has come back with an intelligent response devoid of unthinking, fundamentalist feces to anything I’ve said here. If that’s your definition of “schooling” it’s no wonder America is in such a mess. Towertone at least engaged in a reasonable back-and-forth to what was meant to be a snarky response to a silly comment.

            7. Ford: now with Microsoft Sync, so crashing can extend to cars. Your infantile attempt at calling me a “commie” shows you have no idea what you’re talking about.

    1. And where would they get those 3000 jobs from Staknut? You have to be kidding. How ignorant could you be. What is Maobama going to create 3000 more fake, hellishly overpaid, gubermnt jobs for them? These gubermnt jobs are like no show Mafia jobs. We are being robbed by these Marxists.
