Apple releases iOS 5.1 with new camera shortcut, pseudo-4G bar on AT&T

Apple has posted iOS 5.1 which contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

• Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
• Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
• Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
• Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
• Redesigned Camera app for iPad
• Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
• Audio for TV shows and movies on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
• Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30 second rewind for iPad
• Updated AT&T network indicator (4G)
• Addresses bugs affecting battery life
• Fixes an issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls

      1. this article refers to the iOS update for the iPhone 4S, which is a HSDPA/HSUPA device.

        Neither of these is 4G, which was clearly explained on the 4S keynote, they are an enhancement of 3G, which sometimes get referred to as 3.5G.

        For Apple to now claim it is 4G after making the case why this technology is not 4G during a keynote (I.e., making the point that Android phones were often misleading consumers).

      Why is it those ones need to be so negative during any Apple release. Nit pick and Apple is so Bad, bad, bad… B.S.

    2. I don’t think this is Apple’s doing at all. I think it’s strictly AT&T. I don’t see them making this change for Rogers or Telus, and they have HSPA+ networks too.
